Spottedlaurel
Blimey, those were the days when I managed an update every week or two, now it appears I haven't even done one this year. Nothing truly amazing this time, just clearing the decks: Traditional visit back to my home village at Christmas, becoming equally traditional is finding yet another Chevette/Astra presumably belonging to the same enthusiast. Also traditional is my rummage around the back of the (ex-BL, ex-Subaru) village garage to see what's not deemed worthy of showroom space with the 'proper' classics they now sell: Pleasing to see the Clubmans. I can never seem to get a decent shot of the International, these are what my dad used to sell. Damn that Mercedes! Driven past before and saw the garage behind it more clearly, but then I had no time to stop. Anyway, by the power of Mrs SL zooming in: Old bus #1. Old bus #2 and a Land Rover. I suspect this bus yard has/had an awful lot more lurking around, but it's difficult to stop and investigate with it being on a main road and usually having the family in tow when I go through there. '02 has been at this garage for a fair while now. They usually have something interesting in the yard. Slightly worrying local spot, these were dumped just across the fields from our house. Happened only a day or two after Deb had her 120A smashed up. Intriguing choice for a food van! I'd guess it's more of a festival thing than being sat in a layby on a nearby A-road. Sierra is one of those cars that I was really conscious of being launched, and there were so many around that the trim levels, colours, updates etc just seeped in whether I wanted them to or not. And now they're really quite rare - I must be getting old... JDM Carib sold here as a Corolla, seen at a toyfair. Bit of a beast! I did sneak this 1.6GL estate into the eBay thread last year. Was at a garage near work for some time, they were displaying it on behalf a customer, no price so I rang the owner. Not particularly long MoT, good but not outstanding condition, yet he wanted £500 if not more. It sat there for a while longer, then did eventually go. Not one of my spots, this Z baffled everyone in the office. Our surveyor took the photo, probably more of the buildings behind it, but I couldn't resist pilfering it. Bang up-to-date here, nice pairing seen basking in the sunshine today at Southwold. The P5B was a car or so behind us for a few miles when driving there, lovely to see it on the move. Clearly not a recent spot. Think this Austin was my Grandad's, photo came to light when my late Grandma's stuff was being sorted. Must admit something like this appeals to me, I suspect wouldn't cost a fortune either? That's it for now.

pogweasel
Loving the Commer, I have sent the pic to my some-time commer-fancying accomplice, he'll go batshit for that. Ideal for THIS WEEKS CRAZY BUSINESS IDEA (#1187) which apparently involves the production & sale of Eel Pies.

pogweasel
But of course. I know of no other person demented enough to consider that catching & cooking EELS and then selling them from a ropey old van a viable & sustainable business idea . Futuramic
For anyone interested I now see this van every day on my commute to work. I have yet to see it move but it is now draped in a cloth advert for D's Diner in Hatfield Peverel. Good to know its still on the road.

Spottedlaurel
Another update within a month of the previous effort! Journeys to a few different places and better weather seem to have increased my count slightly. Not strictly chronological either, as I juggle our SLR, work camera and mobile until I get round to buying myself another compact. Winter sunshine made it difficult to get a decent shot of this facelift Starlet. Not one I'd seen around before, pleasingly original. Sheffield spot, a surprise to see in the area I was in. Looked like 1970s student transport, and DVLA says... The vehicle details for 528 MJH are: Date of Liability 01 03 1987Date of First Registration 25 09 1962Year of Manufacture Not AvailableCylinder Capacity (cc) 2138CCCO2 Emissions Not AvailableFuel Type PetrolExport Marker Not ApplicableVehicle Status UnlicensedVehicle Colour RED There was something like a Spitfire in the same yard. Bluebird #1. Dealer acknowledges existence of older cars shock! Or perhaps it's just sitting there until the scrappage scheme comes in?... A35, the obvious choice of transport for Equine Dentists. Bluebird #2. Owner was as old as one would hope. Tidy Mk1, young lad owner obviously starting to accessorise it, sadly. Chrome bumpers look out of place on one this late, and in this colour - possibly retro-fitted for added bling? Nice on-the-move shot by Mrs SL. Bilge at a National Trust property. Volvo owners surprisingly young. This may be my OMG! Spot Of The Year. Note I've even managed to get the dog in shot. Lovely repair work on it... Sporty Corolla at a rural Suffolk garage where they always have something old or interesting. I bought a Skyline off someone there years ago. Got the number if anyone's interested. And these were in the yard at the back. Thought Pog may like the Astra, if it's D889BGV DVLA says: The vehicle details for D889 BGV are: Date of Liability 01 01 2001Date of First Registration 27 01 1987Year of Manufacture 1987Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1796CCCO2 Emissions Not AvailableFuel Type PetrolExport Marker Not ApplicableVehicle Status UnlicensedVehicle Colour RED Which is odd as it's clearly not red, and that seems a large engine. So maybe D885BGV: The vehicle details for D885 BGV are: Date of Liability 01 03 1999Date of First Registration 25 02 1987Year of Manufacture 1987Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1297CCCO2 Emissions Not AvailableFuel Type PetrolExport Marker Not ApplicableVehicle Status UnlicensedVehicle Colour RED Also says red! Unusual to see an old Dyna here. Initially I thought this was an older JDM import, but it's LHD - odd. Cor! This was super clean and an auto too. Had a chat with the couple who owned it, they paid £100 for it off an elderly family friend a few years ago - sounds like no immediate plans to sell it, but I left my number with them... Attended service on the pumps at this village garage. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x58/Spottedlaurel/Spotteds%20Spottings/P4117171.jpg Years ago I remember a magazine describing these as looking like a felled telephone box, which still amuses me. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x58/Spottedlaurel/Spotteds%20Spottings/P4117172.jpg 309 was a TD, must make for frugal yet entertaing transport. Should have worked harder to get the G-reg 5-series behind the Domino in shot too, would have made a nice grouping in this rather nice Suffolk village. That's it for current stuff, but I have a few old photos to scan and upload later.
Mr_Bo11ox
Good work SL! That Sherpa is appalling, just imagine having even a tiny traffic bump in that! its just gonna crumple and crack, the windscreen will fall out and smash on the road, pots + pans everywhere, no doubt the dog will set off barking, it'll be terrible. Spottedlaurel
I reckon the Sherpa ranks alongside that Escort camper I saw a couple of years ago. It's down in Trigger's neck of the woods, maybe he's seen it about and can enlighten us with background on its owner? Was initially slightly wary about taking pic's as Mrs SL said she thought she saw someone in it (and who knows what kind of person I'd confront), but I think it was just the dogs... reallyloud
The Dyna is a good looker, I've always considered it odd that Toyota should make that and the Hiace. Looks to be in remarkably unbattered condition too. Those Carina II look far better as saloons, rather than hatchbacks. My dad almost bought one years back when they were new and the air of solidity and refinement was quite impressive.

Spottedlaurel
Nothing as shitetacular as the Sherpa this time, but a few odds and ends: Early 216, looked reasonably tidy. '£1495 and under' place in the background - this was the day I was travelling round viewing Primera estates. For a laugh I should have stopped there... Numerous dead Vectras in this car park. Place in the background were Vauxhall breakers. This SL also seemed to be deceased, or certainly hadn't moved in a while. Fortunately this Galant in the same place was still alive. Battered P100. Possibly the eastern-most shite on mainland Britain? This 1500 auto was on the pier in Lowestoft. Fisherman owner very friendly, gave us a wave later in the day when he drove past us. More interesting than a hand-painted VW I suppose. Collection day for Deb's stolen-then-trashed 120A, after I'd stored it for a few weeks. It was on its way to being broken by her and the chap in the pic's, better at least then sending the whole thing off to a salvage yard. Interesting tow vehicle... I'd seen it driving near my work, sounds lovely! For sale for distinctly non-shite money. The owner runs a place that does Powerflow exhausts and they also do work on American/rod stuff and anything else interesting. Way back in this thread there should be some pic's from my previous visit there. Meat (sic) night at The Angel last month. Wuv's CX. Alternative forms of 1980 Japanese-ness. Utterpiffle/Scrapman's Dodge camper, and whose is that Pony?! It created lots of interest! Wuvvum, Mr_Bollox and myself enjoyed a few compare and contrast journeys in each other's cars - CX a very different way of doing things to my Laurel. Just managed to catch these mega-zoom shots of a rather lovely 5dr Galant leaving the public car park at Wings & Wheels the other week (pic's of that to come in a separate thread). Interesting spot on the way home from W & W. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x58/Spottedlaurel/Spotteds%20Spottings/P5167953.jpg Yay, a Cedric! Greatly enjoyed all the ones of these I had on the road as daily drivers. My new Primula estate behind it, at a very pleasant evening's stock car/banger racing at Foxhall a couple of weeks ago. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x58/Spottedlaurel/Spotteds%20Spottings/P5167978.jpg This inside the stadium. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x58/Spottedlaurel/Spotteds%20Spottings/P5180013small.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x58/Spottedlaurel/Spotteds%20Spottings/P5180014small.jpg And finally, a bit of agricultural building/machinery shite. Sadly nothing much inside of note.
