Spotted's Spottings (2023 final holiday updates 08/10/23)

  • 1 month later...

Can't believe it's been over a month since I updated this. Had another change of camera, new Kodak compact a tad quicker on the draw than the old Pentax so handy for on the move/snap 'n run shots.

Posted Image

Tidy Caddy seen at the garage I use.

Posted Image

Random Minor very near work, was for sale. Might still be?

Posted Image

Not normally shite in my books (though definitely wil be), but has shiteness thrust upon it by it's forgotten about look and sourroundings.

Posted Image

Pee-bo! Think this is a 1.3L 5dr estate, looks very tidy. Didn't realise they did the 5dr one that early, I know it started off as 3dr only.

Posted Image

Bottletop alloys sugest this a 16v? Or just something wearing them? Seen on a family walk near the trail o' tat, wouldn't be seen from the road.

Posted Image

Over to the HGV experts on this one. Again, seen on the family walk as pretty much invisible from the road.

Posted Image

Like previous tractors I've posted, this is one of those models that defines my rural youth. Such a distinctive cab on these. My son plays with the Corgi model (his first word seems to be tractor...).

That's it for the Pentax's contribution (kindly swapped by Boots for the new one, problems with it nothing to do with having been dropped by my son of course).

Right, let's see if the Kodak lasts longer...

Posted Image

Posted Image

Off to a meaty start with this one.

Posted Image

This was for sale, about £1600.

Posted Image

Nice! Tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac in the next village, one of those things found when turning around for something else. Also in the same road was....

Posted Image

This. Again, looked slightly forgotten about. Was tempted to knock on the door. That plastic chain doing an excellent job of keeping it secure. Apologies slightly blurred, was still getting used to when the shutter would go.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Went through a spell of seeing lots for sale. This looked good, been converted to carb's but injection gubbins still with it.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

This is lovely. Just up the road from the Volvo, chap has 10 or so American cars plus I often see a PA Cresta there. RHD South African model, speedo in km/h, 351 V8, about £3500. Think it's a '71 build, imported in '73 or so but actually based on the late-60's US model.

Posted Image

Golf Mk1 at Sainsbury's #1. A touch overdone IMO.

Posted Image

Golf Mk1 at Sainsbury's #2. More like it.

Posted Image

Very clean, shame about the bumper. Spent the lunchtime talking to old lady owners of A-plate shopping cars, as after this I bumped into Olive and her lovely silver 323 1.3 (shown here before). She still knows who I am and of my fondness for her car.

Posted Image

Tidy Ghia.

Posted Image

Almost missed this leaving Lidl, looked good. Most Mk2's I see seem to be the 5dr.

Posted Image

My boss's TR3, doubt he thinks of it as shite. He owns a few classics.

Posted Image

Posted Image

RW's recent purchase of a Mk3 made me wonder when I'd start snapping them. Seeing this relatively unmolested and quite tidy early one answered the question: April 2007. Interesting how the detailing and way things like doors seal etc on stuff of this era had changed from just a few years before.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Owned by the father of some friends, didn't know about this Scala but it was at their place being cleaned up for a show where it apparently did well. Was going to be for sale, not now?

Posted Image

Our friends have had this for quite a while now, recently restored and modified and standing them at somewhere under £10k. It's a long term thing for them, but scary thing is it could probably be sold and make that back. I can see the appeal, but I'd rather have a Hiace.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Baz will know where this garage is just outside Bildeston. The green spares 240K I got some years ago came from here. Subaru probably ex-Riddelsdell Bros, 'my' village garage who've sold one or two of the old Subarus posted here before.

http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/5627/1000106zw3.jpg

R-R meet-up, where we were also joined by Wuvvum in his R25. I got a lift there in the bouncy-bouncy Benz. Viva there by coincidence, guy apparently owns 10 but didn't seem impressed by Wuvvum's description of his HA. Great place to spend a spring/summer evening. Likely to be even more next time, and we'll be on free sarnies too!

Final batch to follow...

Another Friday lunchtime find and chat with its owner. Been seeing round town for ages, he says he'll keep it going for a few years yet. Just sold a Mustang, also owns a tidy LHD E-plate Prelude which he showed me pic's of.

Posted Image

Snapped only for the purposes of its front end as discussed recently here. Badged as an Si.

Posted Image

Possibly posted before, but good to see it out and about. Traffic jam shot may be reposted in 20 years time, otherwise nothing much there of interest.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Cresta, but not as we know it. Possibly posted a distant shot of this before, had a chat with its owner. It's RWD and diesel, he put the Lexus alloys on it to replace some blingy 5-spokes. Some may say bland; rather elegant I think.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Driven past these many times, as has Baz, finally had time to stop. Think it's an old timber yard. Again, opinion from the HGV experts?

Posted Image

Posted Image

Always seems to be old stuff coming and going at this place. Think the odd 4wd is a South African built thing? Was also a 2CV on the driveway, but Mrs SL in control of the camera at this point.

Posted Image

Lovely country garage, has big workshops behind so once also a haulage/coach yard? Baz will know of it. Would love to see this showroom chock-full of shite.

Posted Image

Posted before, but very nostalgic for me as this is outside my mum's and where I'd have seen all manner of tat parked over the years, much of it owned by my stepdad-to-be (Minor pickups, Mazda B1600, Honda Acty, 1100 MkI, Escort MkI van, Chevanne, 204 estate, HA van and others as builder's hacks alongside his annual purchasing of Datsuns) would all have graced this space. My N10 Cherry also sat on this very spot.

Posted Image

Not sure what day A-series collection happens on, never judging by how long it's been here. Also used to be a W123 Merc or two. Think it's been in PC before, John Podgorski?

Posted Image

On the move shot by Mrs SL, not allowed to stop as son was asleep! Munich Legends sticker suggest owned by an enthusiast. Always liked these even when a kid.

Posted Image

Nice. Badged as Estoura, never knew that before.

Posted Image

This thing fairly whizzed round some bends, difficult to catch up!

Posted Image

Splendid bit of mould growth on this.

Posted Image

Ah, cute flowers. Nice fibreglass repair too (in fairness, still better than I'd have done).

Posted Image

Posted Image

Found this quite tempting, if I needed a daily this would do fine for chugging round the lanes. Seemed very clean, local car too. 120k on the clock.

That's it. Hopefully off to a show tomorrow avec SL family so hopefully more to post soon, otherwise see you here next month.

More good stuff there S.L....The Alpina 7 is familiar to me from somewhere....I recognise the plate....I'm sure it used to wear those horrible Alpina stripes, in gold....Looks much nicer without IMO! Taken with the driver still inside too....Very brave! The old Ford for sale at the Devil's Handbasin would have been snapped by me last weekend, had I remembered my camera!....Really must start taking this spotting lark more seriously again - I have only taken about five pics since my last update! Presumably the first garage is Nedging Tye service station? I've always assumed there would be a treasure trove of Shite around the back, but have never ventured in because I always found the receptionist very scary back in my motor trade days, when I dealt with them! They used to have a BMW 5-Series on really wide rims out the front, always liked the look of it....Tatty, but cool! :) The red truck is the one You were telling me about near Needham Lake I take it S.L? Just goes to show how much quality stuff we drive past everyday without noticing doesn't it? I still haven't noticed it! Toyota Hi-Ace camper and friends in Barking....Another photo I've been meaning to take, but beaten to it by S.L! There's a garage just up the road on the left (after the green DS, but before the sharp right hander) that often has some Shite-worthy stuff too....Chevy Caprice and Maestro recently IIRC.The "Showcase" at Bildeston has only recently shut down....Called in there earlier this year, as they had a nice Volvo S80 and I was tempted to trade the S40 for it. The other resident of the showroom at the time was an HC Viva....Totally immaculate, it had been presented to a Vauxhall employee as a retirement gift, and basically hardly ever used before the gentleman passed on....Think they wanted £5000 for it!

Wow. You have been busy! Any idea how much the Moggy was up for? Not that I need any more cars just at the moment... Think the first rusty old truck is a Commer Superpoise, unless somebody knows better? I love the Estoura. P1800ES isn't bad either...

Think the first rusty old truck is a Commer Superpoise, unless somebody knows better? ...

Yes its a Commer, but looking closely it looks to be the 'Q' model 4x4 designed for the military of which many were used in timber extraction once demobbed. The second mystery commercial is an AEC Matador, again an ex-military model once popular for timber extraction

Hey SL, top work! That Galaxie 500 is HOT! I'm pretty sure that they were officially imported in the early 70s by selected Ford dealers...I've just bought a dozen mid-70s Autocars and Motors from the Beaulieu Spring Autojumble, I'll take a gander later. Some of you who are also R-R's may be interested to know a certain 1973 brown Audi 80 was STILL for sale, in the Automart section. £2995 is too steep, man!Was hoping to get a brace of NOS Granada bumpers, but no luck. Still, the Mk3 Cav (anyone wanna buy it? ) ran fine and when I got back, my mecurial Granada-fixing friend Paul, who has been welding up the spare wheel well and a couple of other tiny holes in the floor, tells me he think's it's a goodun. So a good day.

I'll PM you the number, was T&T'ed so les of a project than some of the others you've been acquiring!First truck a Commer, ah, thanks for the info. When we saw it we thought it looked a bit timber yard. From what they said I don't think the Galaxie was an official import, but I have seen ad's and even the odd bit inside Ford Range brochures on oddball stuff from elsewhere, a mix of US/Oz cars. Thanks for the input 3009

  • 1 month later...

Crikey, over a month since the last update?! The next one should have a few holiday snaps from Herefordshire, assuming they have much round that way and the family can put up with random stops and U-turns. In the meantime...

Posted Image

Posted Image

Not one I'd seen round town before. Driver as old as you'd hope (i.e. very).

Posted Image

For Hirst.

Posted Image

Posted before, first time I'd seen it parked up. Pearl white an odd choice...

Posted Image

Also a repost. I dared to cross the road in front of it recently, figured it couldn't get to me too quickly.

Posted Image

Also seen a LHD one about a couple of times recently.

Posted Image

More B-plate fun, must be about as late as Chevette's got, apart from the odd rogue found in the back of a dealer's lot?

Posted Image

Went down here to find an HC Vivia I recalled from yonks ago - that'd gone, but trip not entirely wasted.

Posted Image

Carboot sale spot. Oddly both the cabrios I see are non-16v jobbies.

Posted Image

Had a chat with the owner of this today. 3.0 V6 Veloce, been off road for some time but he now uses it daily.

Posted Image

Sneaky view from the office car park.

Posted Image

As was this, not seen around before.

Posted Image

Rural village scene not really complete without Land Rover and red telephone box.

Posted Image

Another tidy T72 Bluebird, this one on a G-plate.

Posted Image

On some sort of catering duty.

Posted Image

This one appears again later. Having thought they were getting rare, seen two or three in the last week inclduing a Chamade.

Posted Image

Posted before but from some distance. Can't find fault with the look of these.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Scene alert! Was red oxide until recently.

Posted Image

Something else snapped without even straying from the office boundary. Clean for an estate.

Posted Image

Wuvvum said this is a 350, badges say Moto Morini IIRC. Was about a '76. Shite or not?

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Photobucket mysteriously doesn't like a couple of shots from the last R-R monthly meet, one of which included Wuvvum in person. Make of that what you will...

Posted Image

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x58/Spottedlaurel/Spotteds%20Spottings/100_0811.jpg

This was in the car park but unconnected to us. Lovely, like the 5-series it's something I think does it's job and looks the part perfectly.

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x58/Spottedlaurel/Spotteds%20Spottings/100_0819.jpg

Bus experts? Was very nice, though not quite so lovely as a 1963-ish Bedford coach which went through town recently - was petrol-engined I think, sounded gorgeous.

More to follow...

Hey, my old car! Has added shiteness thrust upon it by being caught in the car park of Lidl with its new Polish owner stocking up. Watch out for more Accord fun...

Posted Image

I don't know, rear spoilers on 205s just don't seem right.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Wahey! These 3dr 323s are mad little things, I once read only 150 or so of them sold here, but I wonder if that's true unless I've just been lucky to see a few?

Posted Image

Not sure what this one was. Edit: Well, apart from being a Dutton Legerra that is...

Posted Image

Looked very good. A-plate as old as an Orion gets I think? IIRC, wheeltrims should be on a Ghia and GL like this had a different style?

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Tired executive bilge. Wuvvum's XJ40 certainly better than this one.

Posted Image

Wow! Beige too. Was going to leave a note, then thought what the heck would I do with another one? Nothing would be useful for spares as it's pre-facelift, 3dr, 1.6. Good to see it though.

Posted Image

Posted Image

This sounded super! Sneaky spots in the background too. Note I'd actually crossed the road from the office to get this.

Posted Image

My older fleet, last night.

Another couple unearthed and seen in deepest, darkest North Suffolk:

Posted Image

There's also a bus and several small Japanese vans in this garden, plus who knows what else not visible from the road.

Posted Image

This has been sat in an old MoD Nissen hut for years, visible from the road and looks unmolested.

BTW, the Prefect that kicked off this thread over a year ago is still about! Saw it parked in exactly the same spot earlier this week.

That XJ40 next to all the pallets looks like a modern scene from The Sweeny! Just looked through the last few pages of your "spottings" SL, and a lot of stuff looks familular! The old truck on the bend near Needham Lake is only visible during winter when theres no leaves on the trees. The Hi-ace camper and 2CV i paas quite often, and not long ago there was an SC100 Whizz-kid on their drive aswell. As Wuvuum says, a little way up the road is an immaculate DS, and at the garage the Maestro is still there, with the yank (Buick), and a lovely Fiat Tempra estate which is for sale.I've only just recently joined this forum, but i'm gonna have to get the camera out and take a few pics of my own cars! (VDP 1500, Chevette, Reno 12)Will also have to check out all the rest of the pages on this thread, to see if i've been spotted in one of my shitemobiles!! :D

It's weird, we don't seem to get Baker's Oven in the deep south! I remember one opening when I lived in Hertfordshire. Mind you I don't think we had them oop north either!

I was looking at that Germanic hatchback thinking somethings not quite right (besides all the tackiness that adorns it!). Then I realised they've tried to turn it into a modern Audi 50! I thought being a scene VW was all about celebrating the marque not pretending it's something else!

I'm afraid to say I prefer the beige one to your former one SL, the front & back look better to me - even the rear lights are slightly different, & preferable on the earlier one! I wonder why boot struts never last long? My Renault has the same problem, oh and the Fiat

Posted Image

Why didn't these sell? I would say it's because from the back it looks just like the Honda Insight, but this came first! :?

Was there anything special about it or it just didn't appeal?

Posted Image

I think there's something slightly depressing & sadistic about witnessing cars that used to be coveted reduced to this kind of state. I remember in the early 90s my best mate's dad had one & it always gave him an air of superiority! It's kind of humiliating for the car, I imagine like Lord Archer or Jonathan Aitken being forced to rub shoulders with jailbird riff raff! Or the former superstar Michael Jackson becoming bankrupt & being shouted at by a judge in his pyjamas in a state court!

Damn these imageshack accounts! I cant see any of these pics, I will have to wait and view it on my home PC.

Actually the latest batch now on Photobucket, they blocked as well?Welcome MrGav! Good to have another East Anglian shiter on board, Ipswich an area where I can recall many shite-filled memories as I lived there from ’89-95 and went to college there from ’86. Sounds like you have a good little collection there, look forward to seeing pic’s. I think there is a picture of the green DS way back in this thread.Agreed about the XJ40 Sweeney thing, the same thought struck me as I was walking round there. A few empty buildings on site and plenty of waste paper and cardboard that would have been perfect for some lurid car chase fun.Reginald Ritmosphere, I agree about the 3dr Accord. Of the facelift models which had different frontal styling I much prefer the look of the saloon, but then I would say that as it’s what I now have. Pointy nose on the facelift 3dr doesn’t match up with the truncated tail. I’m already very fond of the new one, just been out for a brisk lunchtime drive in it on the flimsy excuse of needing to buy some Humbrol model paints which I couldn’t get in town here.

Hello SL, the Onion you posted earlier appears to be a GL complete with original hubcaps (those on the blue A-reg are off an early model Orion Ghia Injection, 86 model year Fiesta 1.1/1.4 Ghia, or possibly mk3 Escort Laser limited edition):

Posted Image

I think there may have been a handful of Orions registered on Y-suffix, but don't ever recall having seen one.

Posted Image

Taking one anorak off and putting another on, this is a 1959 Bristol MW5G/ECW Coach. How do I know this? Simply because there's an enormous online bus enthusiast presence - typing in the registration to Google often produces myriad photos and info. ECW stands for Eastern Coachworks by the way, who were based in Lowestoft and bodied most of the bus chassis built by Bristol (who were based in, er, Bristol I guess). Although I have a bus licence I'd much rather be driving a Bristol motor car like the one in my Jersey thread, pluggy pluggy plug :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Got quite a bit of pre-holiday stuff to clear out before we get onto the Herefordshite spots...

Posted Image

Posted Image

Neat little thing.

Posted Image

Posted Image

I know Mr_Bo11ox loves these, but this one seems to have a different owner to the usual line-dancer.

Posted Image

Cheer up guys!

Posted Image

FWD V6 Japanese barge #1.

Posted Image

Ditto #2. I will have a Legend some day.

Posted Image

Baz and MrGav will probably be familiar with this place in Hadleigh. Good that it's still there and trading as a garage, not demolished for flats (as was nearby Dawson's in Hadleigh, where our Avenger came from).

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Above all seen when out collecting mother-of-SL's 60th birthday cake. See, that's why no journey should ever be undertaken without a camera. Justy was ex-Willows Garage IIRC, so relevant to ChinaTom.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Seen at the birthday party. Some cracking things went past the hotel, probably thanks to a nearby show - Hunter Topaz and Escort Mk1 van two that stood out.

Posted Image

For the many R25 fans.

Posted Image

I know I've posted the 205 before (now down to £495, I noticed today) but thought this made a nice composition.

Holiday stuff to come.

I love that garage! If I had my way with the world it'd be "developed" to look exactly as it does now but with older cars inside and me living on top! I'm looking forward to the Herefordshire stash to see if I recognise any as I visit that way occasionally :D

I'll check the Justy when I get back to UK this week - I still have my late uncle's sales books. He recorded the reg number of every car he sold. I expect your right though regarding Willows.I think the tiredness is getting to me - I have just taken a tuc-tuc from one side of Chennai to the other. Maybe it is the hideous pollution playing with my mind, or maybe I'm just hallucinating in the self-consciousness of being the only 'nana who wears a suit when its 38 degrees. I swear I just saw an Austin Montego. Did these get built in India?Couple of Germans out here with me - one has the latest copy of YoungTimers. There is a great article on the 929 fastback. Did UK get these at any time? That's my kind of motor.
