Final roadworthy spot, tidy-looking P1800. Bad parking skills.

Maybe an attempt to avoid the dreaded car-park "dings" that are so common nowadays??? My Volvo picked up a nice one in Norwich Asda's car-park yesterday through someone deciding to bounce his/her van door off my car, rather than just show some consideration & be careful....

So, to the person in the "Cadbury's" Citroen despatch/Peugeot Expert/Fiat Scudo.....YOU ARE AN IGNORANT TOSSER SIR!!!!

BTW, not going to post too many scrapyard pic's here. I've got several hundred due to be stuck into a gallery on Retro Rides soon

Noooooo! Mr. Laurel you could earn £50 straight away by winning Rust In Peace in Practical Classics mag. Up for that before you post the rest of the pics?Incidentally why not post a load on this forum?

I'll PM you. None are very current, like 10+ yrs old mostly from a yard no longer in business, and quite a few have already been posted on RR (but not in a gallery). There are some nice ones though, if I do say so myself.

Slightly less interesting haul from this week's rovings around Norfolk.

Predictable trio at the local garage.....

Despite it looking fairly rough, see the Fiesta quite often.

Should I be taking pic's of late 80's Fords? I think so, despite being no great fan of their stuff from this era. It's the equivalent of me when I was 17 in 1987 seeing MkII Cortinas and the like about, which would have been unusual even back then. Hopefully I'm picking out things that we'll realise in 5-10 years' time have all pretty much disappeared, even if they're not true shite now.

Hoping to see some goodies at tomorrow's local show. Quite a lot on the road today too thanks to the sunshine, including a pair of Model T's and a Kadett GTE coupe.

I think you're absolutely right! These are the common-place, but quickly dimminishing, cars about which, in a few years, we'll all ba asking- "Where did they all go? Haven't seen a ****** in ages!" I'm npo expert, but did they ever sell Moggy Thous in metalic colours? I suspect a respray, and it does look in good nick!

No, that Minor is not as good as it looks. It's had the wings blended in before the respray, and a bit of accident damage the other side has revealed just how much filler and rot that shiny paint is hiding.

Hello, it's that Fiesta again.

Posted Image

Show the back of this one first, which looks OK.....

Posted Image

But what have they done with those stupid light things?!

Posted Image

Colt hatchback in my favourite spot.

Posted Image

Nice example of two mid-80's angular-style cars, but spot what's in the background?

Posted Image

Yup, this rather clean DS.

Posted Image

Hadn't realised that I also got an XJ-S too, not once but twice 8) Where does this plate come from? Seen the car before so it may well be local.

I think the chap sitting in it was alive.

I love those Citroen DSs, look class even now- must've been real jaw-droppers when they 1st appeared!! Always thought the location of the rear indicators was cool.... and now having lights in the C-pillars is just about standard practice on hatch-backs!! It amazes me what sheep car designers are- one manufacturor comes up with something a little different, and within a year, everyone else has copied it!! Indicators in the door mirrors? Lexus/Mazda-style tail lights, LEDs instead of bulbs in tail lights? And what ever happened to ordinary circular head lamps? Cheap to make, and to replace if one gets broken- the complex shapes of modern units make them more expensive to replace than it costs to buy most of the cars featured on this site!!!

The answer: coz car manufacturers now make their money on PARTS not selling the cars- just look at some of the discounts you get on new cars (esp small ones) Dont' think Citroen have sold a small car for the full price since the 80s at least! Not to mention service.

  • 2 weeks later...

Not much exciting, just keeping things up-to-date while I remember.

309XE, super-basic with skinny wheels and no rear wash/wipe.

Posted Image

Note my mirror included for full drive-by snapping action.

Posted Image

Matching pair of silver BMW 8-series! Very rare to see them both on drive at same time, for a while I just assumed they'd changed wheels on the original one and was gobsmacked to see both one day. Rather like these, seem a bit overlooked.

Like the 850's too, and can be had for sort of reasonable money.

Prefer the old CS and CSL. and CSi models, including the Batmobiles.

Linked to another question asked elsewhere..... what is this, and are they still around ??

It's a Subaru 1800 pick-up - formerly also available as a saloon & estate, but only the pick-up really survives in any number, though years as the sheep-farmers fave passion wagon must be taking it's toll on the survivors...... :D

In case you're wondering, it's a Mazda 626 estate. Think this is a late one, in 5-10 years' time there will be none of these left, and who else will remember them?

Posted Image

This is for sale at£350 or so with MoT. I think that's optimistic, but it's tidy little thing. From the school of Japanese makers not updating the estate when replacing rest of range.

These are just a mile or two from my place. There used to be a few other old things dotted about here too.

Last batch for tonight from a trip up to North Norfolk to do a survey - kind of work to send me out on a spotting mission.

Loved the place this late Cortina was outside. It had moved when I went past again later in the day.

Iconic British Shite. Now think of the PPC mag Roller being drag-raced and autotested as we saw at CaRS at the weekend when I see these.

Posted Image

They shared the car park with this, droppings and flat tyre added a certain touch of something I thought.

Posted Image

Only a Minor I know, but it was at a great dodgy-looking caravan sales place. Regretted not snapping the rusty Patrol they also had, but we're going up again at the weekend.....

Rude not to photograph this as I was stuck in traffic next to it.

Early-ish Sierra, but shame not to have the black grille and funny mirrors.

Cool stuff.

How often do you see a 929 estate these days ??

Will try photograph one when passing my ex girlfriends place sometime.

PS: Are threads interference protected, or can I add to this thread, maybe turn it into a contribution thread..................

Or should I start my own "Project" thread ??

Despite them being dold in tiny numbers and most having beeen bangered to death, they turn up with alarming regularity. There's a few on the 'show' circuit and I've come across a couple more at AutoJumbles.

Mr_Bo11ox of this parish owns a nice one.

I nearly aquired one recently, but the seller played silly buggers so I sacked him off.

There's certainly one less than there used to be:

Last year some aquaintances bought an ex-Saudi Arabia 929 and gave it a quick 'hot rod' inspired tart up. It changed hands a copule more times and was then raced (!) from London to Naples, Italy for a charity event.

It was last see being flogged to some Italian breaker / mechanic.

Is it me or does that Cortina and house just go together so well 8)8) Could have been taken 20 years ago. I love pictures like that. Has a Norfolk registration too so hasn't strayed too far in it's life.

A big well done sir. :D

It's a pleasure, worth turning round for I thought. Well noticed on the registration, I always get a bit of satisfaction from seeing an old car living close to where it was originally sold - nice to imagine it trundling round those same roads for the past 20-25 years.May not come out too well, but those venetian blinds were actually multi-coloured. If I'd waited until I drove back later there would have been a rubbishy 90's Escort van on the drive too, which would have spoilt things.

Excusing my ignorance, but please post a pic of the Datsun 240K GT that you have a pair of SL.

I do not think I know it at all.

Cheers, Rian

Voila.

Actually got three of them right now, recently acquired one for spares. This yellow one was bought last year, been off the road since 1999-ish. Also have a maroon one which is off the road waiting to sort MoT, it's getting a bit tired but I want to keep it on the road as long as I can as it'll be years before it ever gets a proper resto.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice !!Looks like some Toyota from the past as well.I take it that it is a 4 seater 2 door coupe.Good colour too.My first car was a Datsun 140Y SDX, 4 door. Went like a bat outta hell, light on fuel, inherited by my brother, sold of to some guy who crashed and wrote it off soon after that.

Mmmmmmmmm, the W107 SLs are just gorgeous aren't they? Second only in desirability to the Citroen DS Decapotable in my opinion 8)

S.L, have You seen the really pale cream coloured one, with later S-class alloys fitted, that lives in the pub carpark, opposite the derelict Little Thief in the next village along the A140 towards Norwich from Long Stratton??? Is it called Tasburgh???

I fuggin' love that car....Took my camera last time I visited Sudbury, in the hope of snapping it, and sharing it with You all....It wasn't there :(

Maybe You can snap it next time You're passing S.L....As You do it so well???

They always remind me of Dallas, sure that's what Sue Ellen used to drive. Think I've seen this one around before. Can't recall the other one, but I'll take a look next time I pass through (yes it is Tasburgh). There's also a nice dark green A-plate W126 SEC in Hempnall, guy seems to like big German stuff as he's also had a 928 before, and there is now one of those bulky 90's S-class saloons.
