Spottedlaurel
Recent postcard purchases with good levels of content: High Street, Marlborough old postcard, late 1970s by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Ford dominate the scene, plus one or two others that Junkman will love/loathe. Chipping Sodbury old postcard, early 1970s by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr High Street, Moffat old postcard, early 1980s by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Quite a bit of foreign car content here in Scotland, but just the one Volvo. This scene was vaguely familiar to me, turns out I'd scanned an older Moffat card several years ago: Moffat, Dumfries postcard 1970s by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr hennabm, mercrocker, Junkman and 4 others

kinkersaab
Is the escort estate in the first of the laslt batch warring an "automatic "badge below number plate? It caught my eye as that, but may he wrong.
mercrocker
Certainly looks like it....1300XL?
NorfolkNWeigh
It's a mark 2 so would have been GL rather than XL, although I can't remember if you could get such high spec estates. I'll check later, the only Ford Cars catalogue I've got to hand is a 1982, need to go out to the shed.Whatever it was ( died in 1986) it was enthusiast owned, black back panel, twin reversing lights, dog guard, mud flaps, who knows what delights we'd find at the front. A pair of Lucas Suare 8s ? Maybe some wiper aero foil things? mercrocker and adw1977
adw1977
It was a GL automatic according to Cartell.ie.The Mark 2 Escort estate range seems to have remained unchanged for the whole period of production - 1100 base, 1300 base, 1300 L, 1300 GL.The base saloon was replaced by Popular very early in Mark 2 production, but there was no Popular estate. https://www.flickr.com/photos/61090099@N04/14684884417/in/album-72157646361608793/ NorfolkNWeigh and hennabm
mercrocker
My 1980 run-out brochure confirms the 1300GL remained available until the very end, too....That edition confirms the black rear panel, too.
SierraMikeHotel
Thanks for those. We often used to stop in Marlborough when I was little, and I always thought of it as the place you parked in the middle of the road. I liked it because I could get a good look at the cars chaseracer and Spottedlaurel

We often used to stop in Marlborough when I was little, and I always thought of it as the place you parked in the middle of the road. I liked it because I could get a good look at the cars Towns with cars parked in the middle of the road are usually a good bet on an old postcard (when they haven't taken the photo on market day or something silly). Cirencester is another good example...... I have had this card before and couldn't fully identify it then, either.....However, it looked a bit more upmarket than the Austin 16/18 body styles I have seen....Possibly an Armstrong-Siddeley although the bumpers don't tally completely. Quite a few shopkeepers seemed to have big old motors back in the 60s....I remember our local music and electrical shop picking stuff up in a MkVI Bentley - all over the back seat, and with the bootlid dropped like that black car. sheffcortinacentre and Junkman

RayMK
I thought Humber at first, then Packard, but could not find an exact match for the upright rear, drop down boot lid and rear window.
Spottedlaurel
Someone on Flickr suggested Austin Sheerline, but the roofline doesn't seem to be as flat or the rear screen as upright on them. RayMK
Wolseley 25hp? Similar, but the rear window and rear styling are different.
