Datsuncog
Great book, that - I must have worn out the copy in my local library during the late 1980s. Found my own copy in a charity shop a few years back, otherwise I'd be all over it!

The 1/18 E Type is a lovely model. Built 2 from the kits they did in the 90’s. I’ve got the commercial toys version of that book as well, liked the TR7 pedal car by Triang in the back, one of those must be worth a bomb now. RoadworkUK
21 hours ago, Mrcento said: Some of the early 90's 1/18's are junk. Some of the vintage Alfa's etc are fine, but some of the Ferraris are just weird, the proportions look a little off and the interiors so lacking in detail, they look broken as new. No door cards etc. I think that's a little unfair. By today's standards, some of Bburago's early 1:18s are a bit clunky, but bear in mind that they were priced at way closer to toy money than they are now. IIRC you could buy a Bburago 288 GTO, with four opening panels and a reasonable attempt at engine and interior detail for £10.99 in Beatties. That's, what, twice, three times what you'd pay for a Corgi? At the time the Bburago's wow factor was unequalled. Plus nobody else was doing what they were doing. It was Bburago that popularised the 1:18 scale. Other brands saw the potential, but the earliest output from Solido, Majorette, Mira, Revell, Tonka (1:16) were mediocre in the extreme. Maisto got the upper hand with working suspension and better attention to detail, but not before Bburago had proven that a market existed. Some Bburago 1:18s are better than others... the worst, proportionally, is probably the Lamborghini Countach, but better stabs at that shape took a fair while to show up when Kyosho joined in, alas with a sealed, non-opening model. I'd fall short of calling any of them junk. Plus the Bburago version is no worse proportioned than the many smaller models that existed, and was actually very detailed for the time. The only one of their Ferraris that I'm aware of as not having door cards is the '57 250 Testarossa, which was a stripped-out racing effort anyway. They're only junk if you look at them as an investment, like that tool on Facebook. Alas, like Days Gone, they're so ubiquitous that anybody who actually wants them already owns as many as they need. I'm still sitting on the 20 or so that I amassed during my childhood and teen years, before moving onto better, pricier brands. There's literally no point in my getting shot of them. andrew e, AndyW201 and Split_Pin

I literally bored holes in the French and Spanish Dinky pages in that book by staring at them for so long. Although I only managed to find the Citrien Ami (which was the one I wanted most anyway) I happily made do with a Norev Renault 6 which looked very close to the Dinky version and had superior opening features. Thanks heavens for Atlas now though as the genuine French and Spanish items have always been out of my budget, even way back in the early 90s when the real cars were utterly undesirable and probably worth less than the 1/43 versions! I still have that and got the GTO and Testarossa for a few pounds about 5 years ago. I opted for the Polistil Countach on account of it having no rear wing which I always thought was better looking. I guess my reference to Days Gone was more aimed at the 1/18 Bburagos that were based on exotic and vintage cars way before my time and as far as that subject goes, my interest lay firmly in regular cars like the Corgi Classics Morris Minor. Spottedlaurel
More progress on the modelbuilding and display area: Cabinet is fully stocked and the bearer below it worked perfectly for a mix of standard and long-card diecasts (including the Dinky Honda Accord). Actually managed to make a bit of progress on one of the kits. And Spot Ons were often painted in bright colours, so the shades both work well. I've got one of those NSUs too, although mine wears the original paint: Giant steering wheel only accentuates the Mr. Magoo character driving it. I've even got its box! Sadly, this one came up from a guy selling off his childhood collection all in one go. Luckily for me, the flooding of the market meant I got this for a relative bargain but others who could justify splurging cash in one fell swoop got some crazy good deals. But saddest of all, the original owner who cared for them so well lost out the most. That said, they'll all be looked after by old duffers, so will be preserved for the future, I suppose! Seems I also need to update my Spot On collection photo, too... morrisoxide, Datsuncog, eddyramrod and 10 others

I'm going to dig through the kids old toy box and find anything interesting, but these were on the top in a bag. Most of the stuff in the box is 50 year old Scalextric track and some heavily battered (and modified) 70s cars that go on said track (probably another thread on this?) So here's the Combine in question. As previous, my Dad worked for Claas. This got beaten up by my kids unfortunately - the roof isn't secure (and a bit snapped off I think) and there's another plastic bit missing. Plus when you used to push it along, the red bit went back and forth. The mechanics for that appears to have been removed at some point. Bodywork is OK tbf. Some "Days Gone By" type shite A burago F40 1/43 - I have no idea which car boot sale it came from And finally these two. One is a Hot Wheels, the other a weird Chinese Corgi. These if I remember are much more recent. Tesco own brand (who knew). What's weird about them is that they're "kind of like" certain models of cars, but almost like they're Chinese models - in that the Chinese almost clone European and American models, but make them different. For instance, the blue one looks a bit like an MR2 front end, but a Mini rear. The 4x4 looks like a Range Rover from the front, but more like a Suzuki back end and a jeep middle The Ambulance has a front end off a VW. But looks more like a Dodge van.
