Ooft, that's bringing back some memories... we used to stock Quartzo in the model shop I worked in, c.1996.

Not big sellers, as I think the range was solely European touring cars - but pretty well rendered.

Can't remember who made them, I've a funny feeling it was someone like Vitesse or Trofeu - dunno if the box has any hints?

Not bad value for €5, anyway!

I bought a whole load of Quartzo cars from Asda in the late nineties for something like £2.99 each. Most were NASCAR models, which I was really into at the time, but they had Porsches & BMWs as well.I don't remember seeing any Capris though.

Wonder if any shiters can help me out. Back when I was a small child, so around the year 2000, I had a model of a Peugeot 205 5 Door in red, identical to the car in the picture, same trims though I believe the model may of had cream interior. Was fairly detailed and might of had opening front doors but memory could be playing tricks here. It was also a decent scale, maybe 1:18, definitely larger than 1:43. Anyway I can’t find the model anywhere online, does it ring a bell with anyone here?

Portugal so it will be Vitesse.

Quite possibly - or maybe Vitesse (Cinerius Ltd) and Quartzo (Minibri Ltd) shared the same UK distributor?

I have a strong recall of Quartzo being included alongside another brand in a catalogue - annoyingly, I got rid of all the old catalogues I'd saved from the model shop bin a few years back, but that's gonna bug me...

100% stumped on that one. The only 5 door model I know of was a terrible Mira one that looked more like a sad pastie.

I was thinking along the lines of Vullierme who made 1/12 scale plastic models for dealerships in the 1980s but they only made a Citroen AX, BX and a Renault 5. Plus they don't have any opening features.

It was metal I believe, likely to of been bought new for me in late 90’s/early 00’s as my Dad had a red 5 door 306 at the time which I’d of wanted a similar model to. Can’t find it anywhere online, I can vividly remember those wheel trims though.

Ah, the minute you said metal, I knew what it was. It's a Guiloy:

These are exactly my kind of thing. They made some very interesting models in larger scales at that time. I have a Sierra Xr4i in 1/20 scale. Its beige with a brown furry interior. It does have the correct pepperpot wheels though, but like your 205, they're in chrome. I bought it new old stock in 1995, complete with flat tyre, I still have the box though. Its so bad it's good.

I can find none of either for sale anywhere at this time.

I had the Opel Kadett GTE and the Granada Scorpio in a Barcelona Taxi livery. Both bought in Salou in round about 1998. As a subject matter they were awesome, applied some were better than others, The Scorpio looked bang on at the back but from the front it looked awful. Both went in the purge of 2014. The Kadett went to some guy a few streets from us that used to make a half arsed job of customising them and the Scorpio oddly enough went back to Spain on ebay

Just for the sake of completeness, nothing of much interest was happening over at the market yesterday... seems that Market Blokey's either having a tough time getting diecast stock, or he's finding that books and bedpans are much better sellers these days.

And maybe they are?

There was this massive New Bright US-style battery operated fire engine, which I think may have popped up before:

In a parallel universe, members of the Dollshite.com forum are probably going nuts over these.

Other delights included glass clowns like this one...

Yeah, no.

The Charity Stall still had the same old stuff on offer, pretty much:

The last few Corgi Jaguar racers, a couple of 1/43 Bburago, that rough-looking Minichamps MR2 and the friction-powered Marx fire ladder are all things we've seen on previous Fridays.

A brief flicker of hope came over at Alan's Emporium, but it didn't last long:

Hmmmm...

Yeah, just unbranded discount-store tat, in fairly awful condition. Merc ML probably the only item of vague shiter interest, but missing the roof bars and lights...

850267492_IMG_20211119_0939503.thumb.jpg.c51a7c3941bbe3aaad96bd4d7ac7abf5.jpg

Although this (possible) Chevrolet pick-up gave me pause for consideration - unbranded with only 'Made in China' on the base, and missing both A-posts, but seemed quite old; 1980s, maybe. The smooth-ish tyres looked more like older Zylmex items, while the overall casting seemed reminiscent of a scaled-up version of the ill-fated Hong Kong-era Junior Dinkys.

Maybe should have stumped up a pound, now I reflect on it, though the roof damage was a bit off-putting...

Where do you get wheels from? All mine are off other fucked diecast.

They come from a guy on Facebook called Simon Panton, 3D printed and come with the rubber tyres. I put a link up a while back, he does all sorts.

Most of mine are off other cars too, although you can also get nice sets off Aliexpress and from Greenlight via Modelmatic, depending how much you're comfortable paying.

Greenlight:

These are Aliexpress specials - maybe I should have chosen a lighter colour, they're quite detailed with a disc and caliper that stay still while the wheel rotates

I also have a Mira Chrysler Alpine fire car somewhere which is also up for grabs if anyone is keen on this stuff?

Potentially interested in the Alpine. Any photos?

These mira have axles made from blackpool rock - they just snap.
