Some nice stuff there. I really like the understated paint on the 911, the next release in green doesn't work as well for me.

The Datsun is a great casting, got a few different versions of that one (excuse shite pic)

I should unbox the 914 and put it up against the Hot Wheels version

Lastly, anyone seen an orange Dinky Volvo 265 before? This one is a bit tatty unfortunately

I think the orange ones were assembled in Italy, if memory serves - Polistil were somehow involved, I think they bought the tooling after Dinky went under.

The very last were sold in plain cardboard boxes with no windows; in the mid-90s there were still some unsold stock kicking round the model shop that eventually employed me to work on Saturdays. I felt £5 was too steep for them, so I didn't bother.

Who's kicking themselves now??

That explains the orange one in Spain and I bet @bunglebus orange one has overstamp underneath 'Made in Italy'.

There was no export channel from UK as Meccano Calais and/or Polistil Chiari would have had that cover.  Because EEC.  Probably.

Oh, and the fact that Binns Road was shut.

Renault looks similar to the Rover SD1 I've got, can't remember the make though 🤔

Merc 190,Guisval?

Plastic Peugeot is Novacar.

The Renault is by Giodi Toys, an Italian company which made some pretty 'approximate' budget castings of weird subjects. Probably best known for the Lancia Gamma saloon which I think is moderately collectible as the only period casting of a Gamma. The Renault casting is almost certainly modified from the Lancia as they look nearly identical. They did a Rover SD1, too, which was also strikingly similar

Correct on both counts! Guisval wheels look like 80s Hot Wheels to me

In other news, this arrived

Better pull the Dinky Transit out of the cherry Ski paint stripper

20210225_161814

Ah yes, it used to be azure blue in a previous life. Maybe I'll do it that colour again once I've re-done the arches to a better standard than when I was about 14

That's a grille within a grille!  But the outers are supposed to be lights.  Mad.

Baravelli did this wonderful effort too

FARMER TOM BOUGHT A MARX TRACTOR THE OTHER DAY.

He'd never owned a Marx Tractor before, but he remembered them from when he was a boy.

He bought it as a non-runner and fixed it up, so it is now working order and is activated by the knob behind his seat

However, the steering mechanism has a mind of its own and he regrets it wholeheartedly.

Now he's desperate to get off it before he does himself an injury.

Well well well...

Apologies for the radio silence, folks - been quite a time of it at work this last while, and things like 'weekends' and 'evenings' just haven't really been happening.

But there is some good news, as Royal Mail's malfunctioning online postage service has finally been fixed (it allowed me to buy the postage ok, but not view and print the labels) and today five belated tat parcels finally entered the system.

957171493_IMG_20210225_1236072.thumb.jpg.9ac64ea191717ca4abb327138bcb2254.jpg

So @Split_Pin, @barrett, @MarvinsMom, @andrew e, @Rover414 - apologies for the delay, and hopefully these should be touching down with you early next week!

Further boxes for @Amishtat, @NorfolkNWeigh and @bunglebuswill be wrapped and dispatched in the coming few days, so Watch This Space.

And it hasn't all been one way traffic... this touched down today.

789592396_IMG_20210225_1815272.thumb.jpg.eb834c67a4cd531e86845f58f6e00c71.jpg

I'm fairly certain it's my most profligate diecast spend ever ever ever.

I've not opened it yet; I'm not even 100% sure what I ordered in the end (I pruned so many off my original shopping cart to leave only the very best) but you can be sure I'm as giddy as a giddy thing at the prospect.

Plus, no additional duty payable, other than the VAT at point of sale. And yes, the total came to more than the £135-odd threshold for GB import duties. I'd been keeping an eye on the tracking, and had become a bit alarmed that it had been sitting with Customs for over a week. But it all came through.

Could Norn Iron become the new Underground Railroad for tiny tat? Well I wonder...

Some years ago I got the Kamei Escort at the back from @mk2_craig on here. I don't think he'll mind me saying it wasn't built to the highest standard, with thick red brush paint and plenty of glue, on its own it would have been a challenging restoration project.

1:25 Revell Ford Escort kits

Knowing I had this kit, someone on another forum kindly offered me the XR3 version. It's missing a fair few parts, useful things like the chassis and much of the interior, but I should be able to make one road car out of the two, and use the remnants for a RWD converted short oval/autocross racer.

Looking forward to updates...

Nice to get some carded Merc wagons at last, after only being able to get the green version in a multipack. Narrowly missed out on getting the Target stores exclusive Terracotta red version in the retro packaging too. Grr!

Wait... TERRACOTTA ?!!

I very nearly bought a 300TD in that colour about ten years back.  Went all way down to Dorset coast to look it over - one owner car too.  Was going to convert it to run off veg oil, compete with vat in rear bay and pre-heater(s).  This was before the W123 values went bonkers of course.  A £1000 mistake that would be worth five times as much today

Apart from wearing out my old Dad's 230E saloon, last delve into W123s was sourcing this 200 carb for a mate who took it on the Plymouth > Dakar.  Where it probably still is.  This was the 200 after fetching it from deepest Hertfordshire:

Potato cameras were all phones gave you back then, and hands-free laws hadn't quite got traction!  Would love another, but the boat sailed there.

So what was that you were saying?  Are there Terracotta Teutonics to target in Target?  Where's a Target?  Not sure they have them over this way.

Unfortunately, Target is an American supermarket chain, so if you want a Terracotta 123, they're hard to get over here.  You'd probably get a dry shafting from Customs if you got one from an American seller. Ana, who I get a lot of my HW and MB from gets her stock from all over, and she had them for £4 each which I was prepared to pay for a US exclusive, but missed out. Maybe next time. For now, here's a piccy with its jazzy '80s style card. (Looks more orange in the pic...)

@AndyW201 Yes thanks, I was being tongue-in-cheek about Target stores ...but to be fair, I did wonder if I missed some stores opening over here and not noticed!  After all, Walmart, Bunnings etc appeared overnight to me.  I seem stuck in the 90s Beatties era...  when Do-It-All and Bejam were still about.  Also, 'TEXAS, THE BIG ONE' was blaring out the transistor radio.

I looked and the cheapest terracota Merc I found on Blighty would be £10 plus post, so forget all that I'll get a 99p green job and paint it.  The detailing on those cheap main-line Mercs needs doing anyway!
