I've already begun collecting some old hot wheels. I paid 1 Pound (!) for mine, which has completely intact bumpers and tailgate.All I had to do is strip half a tin of red Humbrol off it. With the Norev Trelle, you may want to look for an early one, like mine is.The model was incrementally simplified during its quarter century long production run. - First they left the rear window away - Then they moulded the hitherto separate near numberplate integral with the tailgate - Finally they changed the chassis plate to accommodate 'superfast' wheels and the grille was integral with the chassis, no longer a separate chrome piece. Mind you, those simplified 'Plastigams' of the early Eighties were sold for ff4.50, the equivalent of 50p, or £1.50 in today's money.And you got a free MajoKit (remember these?) when you bought some. With the 4L you just have to stay patient. A nice one at the right price will eventually pop up.It's actually this very R4 I scored at a Haydock fair that sparked my back to the roots quest of saving The Oceansof as much warped French plastic as my modest means allow. Like with all old Norevs, you have to be able to look past shoddily applied paint. There sometimes are true gems hiding beneath it.Also, you can do quite some bashing. As a rule, if the body is intact, go for it. You'll find a donor wreck eventually.If you need wheels and tyres, you have to buy a wreck. There are no spares available.And don't forget, a Micro Mesh finishing kit will do wonders on any plastic model. Also, as weird as this may sound, I feel younger since I'm yet again surrounded by old Norevs. Shouldn't have sold the ones I had...Collecting them also thankfully put a stop to pursuing other avenues of the vast miniature shite collecting field, like Sikus, which can ruin you royally. Old Norevs are a relatively cheap thing to pursue in collector's terms. The majority of the ones I acquired over the past year were under ten Quid,with the most expensive one being the ultra rare swirly Lancia, for which I gave twenty five expensive Roros to my favourite Spanish dealer,who is a gentleman the likes of which you have to look for nowadays.He loves to sell to England because he loves everything English, hates the French and gives me special rates just because of that.In exchange, I have to send him Jaffa Cakes, Toffees and Relishes. When he recently noticed that he overcharged me a bit on postage(not that I noticed it, mind), he sent me an apology and wanted to refund me for the excess.I replied implying not to do so, but instead having a glass of wine on me.Next thing I received a parcel with the Maserati and the Porsche 356 from him completely free of charge. Norev people are better people. Out the way. SHOO CAT. OUT THE WAY!! Connoisseur feline dealt with, you can see that my tastes err on small, varied and cheap. I can't really stretch to the storage of anything much larger, even though the Auckland shop I went to had a couple of very tempting mid-80's boxed 1/36 Corgis for £5 apiece! The Solido 530 I had as a kid but ruined with navy blue Humbrol. Didn't know Matchbox sold a Honda Element, so that and the Transit were picked up at £1.50 each; I had a rather large collection of Transit models I sold in 2010, so this is a homage to that and I didn't own one of these back then. All others were picked up at 50p each, barring the small ambulance. Love the utter half-arsedness that is applying a decal to a standard Mk3 Escort casting, thus transforming it into an XR3i. See also the Corgi Junior Datapost Escorts and Metros for similar tactics. One of these XR3is will be sitting in a box in my UK childhood stash but what price duplicate nostalgia? About 50p, it turns out. Blue plastic thing is I think a generic car based on a US spec Escort, as it's branded Tonka 1982. How anything could be further than the hardy virtues of all metal Tonka toys, I don't know but it is admittedly a lot sturdier than a Norev. But then so are Kinder toys, so that's not saying much. Rear end compario. Those tow bar tabs on Corgi Juniors really are the epitome of function over form but I don't think I'll be Conelrad'ing this one. In fact, did Corgi even have a Juniors trailer available by this stage?! Incidentally, I always found the Corgi Junior and 1/36 model comparisons interesting, like why they didn't miniaturise the Mk3 Escort van to Junior size, and why did the 1/36 Mk3 Escort and Escort vans have different front ends to each other? And arguably, the Mk3 Transit SWB Junior was a much better model than the LWB 1/36(ish) version, which had a much clunkier front end. 60's Superfast Muira vs my Bulgarian made GT40. By the way, this is a most accurate rendition of my actual living room carpet colour, as it's sadly not purple. Seen here is a Fun Ho! HR Holden. Fun Ho! were NZ made and most of the toys are amazingly crude, which is endearing in itself. This one's quite a fair casting though, I reckon. Not too shabby, even with no interior or glass, which by the mid-late 60's must've been very passe. Photographed purely to reminisce the olden days, when ice cream vendors were giants and the cones they sold were minuscule. Finally, the Solido 530, which I felt deserved a couple of jaunty angled shots, due to its jacked up rear. I actually photographed this today, as once again my efforts were thwarted yesterday by another fire siren - you've never seen such careful yet rapid hiding of newly acquired toys I've bought in secret! I do add a few more to my line-up of stuff I display, so Mrs_Jon is subconsciously aware, I'm sure. Inquiso-cat strikes again. Datsuncog Posted July 20, 2018 Share Posted July 20, 2018 Been a bit manic with work the past few weeks, hence not being on these fair pages so very much... but, in an effort to change my habits to be more positive, I'd promised myself on Monday that if I could last the week and get all the contracts sorted and all the meetings arranged and all the other old bollocks, then I'd take myself off to the toyshop on Friday lunchtime... kind of a beacon of hope to get me through. Well, I got pretty much everything done that needed to be done (other than one or two things which can't progress as key peeps are off on holidays), so... Yup, one from the Hachette campers range - presumably French, because Citroen (I understand the same partwork issued in Italy came with a Fiat version). Can't wait to get it home for a proper unboxing... drool. I do like campers; this one is pretty damn good. And beige. And while fumbling in one of the dump bins (I can't help myself), I found this... Felly Magic Posted July 22, 2018 Share Posted July 22, 2018 Anyhoo, less gasbagging, MOAR PIKCHURZ, starting off with MBX Dinky Sherpa sports, one is Force Nail, either, I'm not too fussed which, for £10 postificated, nice models for something 28 years old, mint n boxificated in VGC boxes Blue un, Rust coloured one with 'Hyundai Stellar' engine Now some Ixo uglines, I improved the Escort by putting rear lights from a dead Vanguards XR3 that donated it's dashboard for my Minichamps mk3. This ugly bastard will also be getting the RHD treatment soon Now an Atlas branded Crapi Injection, box is brilliant, model is AAAAARGH, and it is going to become a Laser when decals arrive, already got a set of RS 4 spoke white metal rims for it, only good thing it has going for it is that it is RHD and has a nicely detailed interior, with patterned seats Hopefullky later on this week, I should have a red Abrex Skoda Rapid 136 in right hand drive coming If any of you are interested in a Sherpa Sports Coupe, please PM me, thank you muchly ta RayMK, Burnside and Conrad D.
