Shite in Miniature II

In the early 1980s my dad was digging his garden and found a Dinky Post Office van, probably the immediately post war issue.  It was in a terrible state and he almost chucked it there and then.  Fortunately, he kept it to show me and gave it to me as I seemed to be keen.  After much effort and body filler it actually looked decent.  Years went by, and the filler was rejected.  More attempts to rectify it were made but it still deteriorated after a few years.

Yesterday I rushed upstairs to find the Norev Renault 4, pretty sure that I knew where it was.  Well, it wasn't.  Nor were the Hubbly Ford Model A metal kits (built) that I mentioned a while ago.  This means that they are in the loft.  Since I put a box or two of stuff up there (20 years ago?), I have lost the ability to safely climb a ladder, so retrieving them requires the co-operation of my son.  Watch this space.  It will eventually come up trumps with some lousy photographs.

Check online for a 'hit-list' of 1/18 models that are prone to zinc pest.

It's like Russian Roulette (pun intended) buying anything made in what was the USSR. I've lost 2 to it already and I have only ever bought about 25 or so 1/43 scale examples in my lifetime.

Real car dashboards and man made fabrics deteriorate in the sun...........

Imagine how stupid it would be to leave models on a dashboard in the sun then.

Model car mishap by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Sadly I don't need to imagine......

Edit: This photo was back at home, I don't have that flowery oilcloth on my dashboard.

Some nicer ones.

Very hard to find the Hot rod draguar without cracks in the bubble top,

This is the best I've found so far, still not totally crack free, but pretty good.

Parcel arrived from Lobster's Emporium of Diecast Tat, and ferkin' 'ell is it nice, 1/24 scale Sierra Cosworth saloon from an Italian partwork. Surprised it has an acrylic case, makes it a doddle to display, and I bet this gets serious scene tax very quickly. Knocks the 1/25 Schabak into a cocked hat

Love the Corty - I have bought a set of those decals to do my Mk2 Dinky as a Safari car.....  That CF looks interesting, what is it?

The CF is a Matchbox.

There is a mechanism inside that when it rolls along the Accident sign on the roof lights up red,

also a stop sign appears in the rear screen.

The Cortina is quite playworn, but in decent condition, sadly the roof mounted spotlight is broken off though.

This is an Atlas Edition Dinky copy. Atlas try and get you to buy other stuff but you can just opt out and pay for the model, which in this case was £2.99.

I can live with the fact that is says Mattel in the base! I am very impressed with it!

I've often wondered what the catch was.  Sounds like a Readers Digest type outfit  :-D .

Just in today:

I got the 1/43 Italia 90 Bburago Fiat Tipo when I was a kid but always wanted the 1/24 version. Courtesy of Sierraman of this parish I now have one and it's MINT!

Also delivered today was my Atlas French Dinky Toys Renault 12. It wasn't from one of their 'offers' but at £8.50 direct from China I couldn't say no. I have wanted this model since I saw one at a swapmeet which, at £55, was way out of my price range. I am very pleased with it!
