Split_Pin
On a different note, I have just unpacked all my Corgi and DInky models from the early 50's to the early 70's. The reason I started doing this was because the first one to be unpacked, a Corgi Renault 16 in Tour De France guise had suffered from poor qualilty replacement tyres in the past, and these had again crumbled off. I knew that there were some other cars that were starting to suffer from this problem and I discovered quite a few had tyres that were in a bad way. I found a great e-bay stockist in Aberdeen who supplies the correct lateral tread tyres with Corgi printed on the sides for the Renault and also does many othe sizes. But what I cannot find, is somewhere that produces replacement jewelled headlight units for Corgi toy cars of the era. My 'Polizei' Volkswagen is otherwise in very good nick and with its box, but looks shite as its blind in one eye. I remember the light falling out when I was about 4. Does anyone know where i can get a replacement light?
Mash
I managed to source a Norev Tipo last week from a guy in France on eBay who had a quite a lot of cars I'd missed pretty reasonably priced so I treated myself to a few I also dug out my teeny tiny HO scale Tipo. This was made by Rietze and is plastic of course. Check out the nun driving!

Split_Pin
Those are ace. I've got a white 1/43 one with some sort of Italian racing livery. Can't remember who makes it but its quite old, 1994 I think.
bigstraight6
Picked up some lovely old 'Husky' diecast models from an autojumble yesterday, for 3 quid I bagged a Lancia Flaminia, Ford Thunderbird (with its delicate roof still intact) and a Ford Zephyr estate, a real bit of nostagia for me having had a fair few 'Husky' models in my youth. eddyramrod
Wow! In that condition, those three are probably rarer than the full-size examples! Very well done sir!
vulgalour
I should probably post some of my collection... I've been working on amassing the range of Lesney models that interested me, deliberately buying the ones that are pretty worthless and repainting them. Sometimes, I get it right and people pay me a few quid for a renovated version, but usually there's no interest at all. This is one of those things I've not been able to do much with since moving house, but I'm hoping to get back into the renovating soon, and casting some spare parts so I can buy incomplete models and complete them. I think these models work out at something like 1:64th scale, so they're pretty tiny but very well detailed. Dodge K850 - Paint job Inspired by Jamaican trucks.BeforeAfter Mercedes Benz "Binz" Hearse - this could ideally do with a repaint and a refettle as there's things I'd do differently to it now, but it's okay for an early attempt and a great use for a knackered ambulance model.BeforeAfter Commer Milk Float - I am never selling this, it is far too awesome.BeforeAfter Bedford CA - Originally a blue Dunlop Van with no paint left, now a John Deere colour schemed van in need of signwriting/decals. When I get brave, I'll probably hand paint some John Deere logos on the yellow side panels.BeforeAfter Studebaker Lark Wagonaire - with slidey roof! I love this model, but I'd like to get another to do in a brighter colour.BeforeAfter Ford Cortina drophead - squashed roof? No problem. Not that they ever made a four door drophead of course. Yellow paint with black vinyl interior is for winners.BeforeAfter Finally, the best example of what I do with the models. Take two broken models with enough good bits on both to restore them. Volkswagen 1600 TL - Combine all the good bits and repaint accordingly.BeforesAfter
DSdriver
I rather like the look of these, especially as it almost matches my car.Brekina 14202 Citroen Break. The trouble is, if I get this one I will probably want to collect the other colourways which is probably their plan. There seems to be a huge range of Brekina HO stuff, they seem to do each model in several variations which makes sense as it gets them maximum value per tooling. eddyramrod
Illustrated tales of restoration... Bloody hell, that's marvellous! Just the kind of thing I used to do before I discovered internet, ahem... I'm starting to pack them for our move, but before they're all boxed up I'll shoot a couple and post them up here.Oh, and don't panic about a Studebaker, I'm sure I've got one I can spare. As long as you don't mind waiting until I've moved...
vulgalour
I have all the time in the world, there's no rush. I tend to buy job lots of shitty models just to get one or two I want and then sell the rest back on eBay individually and usually make my money back, sometimes even make a profit... bit sad really. I've got a couple of Husky models too, but I'm trying to figure out how to dismantle them safely so I can deal with the bad paint on them and make them awesome again. I've got a batch of stuff to go back on eBay at some point soon, it's just a bit of a drag photographing and listing it all accurately so I get decent returns. Would love to get my mitts on some of the more obscure stuff that's popping up in this thread, there's some cracking models. Especially, I'd like to get hold of a Talbot Solara (I think) made by Corgi as I used to have one in white back when I was a wee sprout and I've not found one since. It used to have an opening tailgate and, most strange of all, it made a rattly noise as it was pushed along, just like all the tappets were shot. quicksilver
Great repaints Volksangyl - the milkfloat is particularly awesome. I have a few old Matchbox, Husky and Minix toys as they're about 1/76 scale and fit in with my buses and they look pretty good with a coat of paint and some detailing. Will try to get some photos posted sometime.
eddyramrod
Consider it yours, I just have to find it... I don't remember Corgi making a Solara! And if it had a tailgate, shouldn't it be an Alpine? I rather think Majorette did an Alpine, which might correspond with your description. OK, that does it, I'm going to have to shoot some photos now...
155V6
These might be what you're looking for,
vulgalour
Hmm... I think it was an Alpine, but for some reason I remember it saying Solara underneath so maybe this is my memory playing tricks on me. I'm sure it had a black plastic base with the rubbish Corgi Juniors type suspension but I can't find anything online from the Corgi range that matches. It could be my memory is playing tricks on me, we are taking about a car I had something like 20-25 years ago after all. It's entirely possible it was a Norev model rather than a Corgi Juniors, even though I remember it having a Corgi Juniors style base and wheels. This is the nearest I can find, but mine was white with clear windows and, I think, a black interior, and the tailgate definitely opened because you could put stuff in it. A search for Chrysler instead of Talbot didn't bring anything up. That's going to bug me now, because it sounds like I might have completely made up a very strong memory from my childhood :/
cms206
These might be what you're looking for, I had the silver Majorette Alpine which was indeed badged Chrysler; I also had a Renault 18 estate of origins I can't remember which was one of my favourites of days gone by. vulgalour
More lateral thinkifying (spurred on by 155v6's post above)... search for Simca instead of Talbot or Chrysler and I get Majorette results. I really don't recall it being a Majorette model but the rest of it looks right. Maybe my memory is actually just rubbish.
eddyramrod
Bravery moment... here are some of my repaints, mostly older...From the TV/movie part of my collection. Corgi Junior Volvo dressed as DI Jack Frost's car!Where the hell did I get an FSO Polonez? Nope, it's the Matchbox Audi Quattro, but at that scale, close enough for me. And my dad. My Mk5 Cortina, before and after respray in Ford Peppermint Green. Yes ok, Matchbox Mk4, but you try finding a Mk5. This small, it'll do. And yes, the "after" version is done in the correct Peppermint, there was a little left over. I took the trouble to open up this one and paint the interior in almost the right shade of grey too.Mk1 Fiat 127 by Majorette. The full-size car was hand-painted by my dad in the autumn of 1986.ERTL did a 1980 Pontiac Bonneville in a Smokey & The Bandit set; it also appeared white in Dukes of Hazzard sets as it was about the only copcar casting they had at the time. So with a bit of filling and sculpting, it becomes my 1979 Cadillac Fleetwood. Again, being Matchbox size means it's good enough.Matchbox, like Vanguards and Oxford diecast, decided their Mk2 Cortina should be a two-door. The one my dad bought new in 1967 was a four-door, what to do? Well, obviously, this! Random Majorette Simca...I used to drive a 7.5 Cargo... oh look, here it is! Back into the TV collection, where John Steed and George Cowley will feel right at home...For some reason I have about 4 of these Austins. Always thought it was an odd choice for a learner-car, but there you go. I still have my first one, from when I was about 6, but it's not like this. Corgi issued it blue and as this needed painting, I thought I'd give it my favourite scheme for them...And finally for now:Bentley Turbo, modified from a Matchbox Silver Spirit. I've got hundreds I could show you, these are just scratching the surface!
vulgalour
Top work. There's a chap in our local club that has a Mk2 Cortina just like the one you've done, same colour and everything. I wonder if you started out painting [nerd]wargaming tabletop miniatures[/nerd] like I did (and still do, oh dear!)?

Split_Pin
Hells bells those Matchbox and Corgis Juniors repaints are tip-top. The Sd1 has gone from a dull little thing to a superbly detailed model. I have several tatty Matchbox Cortinas and I'm totally going to have a go at MK5'ing it. I resprayed several Corgi mk3 Escorts in the mid 90s and acquiring the paint was a simple trip to Halfords, but where can you get the paint now? Id love to do a Cortina in Sienna Brown or Cardinal red, how did you get the paint Eddy?
eddyramrod
Motor factors Iain; I bought the paint for the car and this was a little pot that was left. The "Modena Green" on the Before model is actually Humbrol no.2 Emerald. The original car had been brushed anyway so the model looked just right! Thanks for the compliments! vulgalour
Best bet with the paints is to scour the shelves of your local hobby shop for colours that are near enough. I use a whole bunch of different paints, but I've found myself gravitating towards the Humbrol range since they have quite a wide range of flats and metallics now and, when applied correctly, you can get a pretty good finish with them. Combination of acrylic and Humbrol for the detailed bits. Plastikote are another good range for various colours, but some of their shades like bright yellow are quite thin and need careful application. Cheap and easy to get hold of though. This thread keeps reminding me that I really had ought to get on and strip down the Princess model I've got and repaint it properly in beige and brown.
eddyramrod
Yes, I have two to represent the Princesses I had: one red, one black. I take it this is the old Dinky model you have? That's what mine are.
vulgalour
yup,. tis the Dinky HLS version in white with a black roof. I might go to the extent of drilling out the lights on the front so it has quads and downgrading it to be an HL... has a nastily smashed windscreen that I'm not sure how to fix though. We shall see if the Humbrol plastic glue is useful, sometimes you can repair plasti-glass back to if not perfect, then at least reasonable.
