Yes that's fine, as long at the tT is complete and in reasonable nick!

Will check it over for you! Certainly no point picking up broken rubbish - I could see that it was missing a door mirror, and the aerial was slightly crooked, but seemed otherwise reasonable enough.

I tried cutting the tyre but because they're a very tight fit, the open ends would never have met without some serious clamping, not possible with the wheel partially tucked under.

Now then, I started to gently bend the base up just ahead of the axle and discovered that the body is what holds each end of the axle in and it just slid out! Dinky had obviously foreseen this and designed the toy so you only needed to bend the base up just enough to clear the axle, before the whole lot slides out.

The base therefore easily pushed back and now it looks great.

So, a spin round the other stalls proved reasonably rewarding...

The Charity Stall had some New Stuff, which was also Old.

1990693704_IMG_20230602_0808132.thumb.jpg.e6368ea72221661cc546709fef14d8a2.jpg

Sadly not of the 50p variety.

Buddy L 'Dixie Hauler' was superficially a bit down-at-heel, but might clean up ok.

422170873_IMG_20230602_0809222.thumb.jpg.762e90e9884077b367aa79803df6191e.jpg

Rusty, but not quite rotten.

600032491_IMG_20230602_0812522.thumb.jpg.75978f57571e13b9d498a61379ea482f.jpg

Price unknown, but likely somewhere in the £5-10 ballpark.

Corgi 'Kojak' Buick Regal was a little bit shabby, with damaged glazing...

1889185144_IMG_20230602_0809282.thumb.jpg.e4ce80140bbd4b2c9b93c6150db6a8e1.jpg

...and an amputee Crocker, who's apparently just learned exactly why you shouldn't lean out of moving vehicles.

1341498954_IMG_20230602_0809342.thumb.jpg.12677fea249a645273ffeac75901bb29.jpg

Ouch, that's gotta smart.

Other than a very shabby Lesney King Size Dodge horse trailer, a fantasy Superkings fire engine and two 1980s Superking trailers, this early SD1 in police colours was the extent of the older stuff - and really the only one that was Worth Having.

1937314920_IMG_20230602_0810562.thumb.jpg.5b79e19ed6b6be0583f839f61838009e.jpg

So I nabbed this one for myself, for £5 - but I'm not sure if it's better or not than my existing, later version of the peelermobile SD1.

I'll give it a good clean later and compare them - but be advised, one of them will be available!

This monster of a thing was also on the Charity Stall - huge, heavy and seemingly more cast-iron than diecast.

1524030648_IMG_20230602_0809242.thumb.jpg.750cf3d135c3691ea4255a58986db017.jpg

It also had a sort of Rolamatics style set up, where a cranked axle lifted 'flames' from the header pipes when in motion, while the driver joggled a bit.

175240633_IMG_20230602_0812132.thumb.jpg.73d18ec7e9bf77820362bcac821cbf78.jpg

The 'Hubley' name was dimly familiar - and a quick online search indicates that this is a 1990s replica of a much older toy.

Even so, it seems I could have doubled the asking price of £20 if I cared to flip it online - though I wouldn't much fancy posting the bugger, I have to say.

A quick turn past the Irish Gifts stall revealed two new Oxford 1/76 castings - a Disco 1 and Disco 2

1865325770_IMG_20230602_0816312.thumb.jpg.563f03ee00ad37472200a635062acd49.jpg

Very nicely rendered, though the price is creeping upwards...

Annoyingly, Colin on the stall did get the 1/43 version of the Disco 1 in Foxfire Red - but didn't bring it in to St George's as he didn't think it'd sell.

Bah.

Two of The Giffers unexpectedly had some Them's Rare Them's Dinkys on their stalls...

1795161937_IMG_20230602_1244102.thumb.jpg.714069977ea25290dbddf2c1a809d945.jpg

String Labels Of Doom advised £15 each on the cars and Trojan van, but £30 on the fire engine.

Whilst the tatty Atlantean and end-of-the-line Speedwheels Land Rover wrecker were unpriced.

1605483885_IMG_20230602_0745012.thumb.jpg.af414ea3e251cf576dacb10ff714867c.jpg

I daresay whatever he's looking for them, they're not worth it.

And finally, Alan's Emporium had the 50p Tray out - the last bastion of cheapo toy grabbing to be found today.

1896139039_IMG_20230602_0822012.thumb.jpg.4bfa6f2354a26fa4202ebfa44870fe2f.jpg

Not that there was much worth having, to be fair.

I'd hoped that there could be some decent Majorette action happening for @Spottedlaurel - but this damaged E36 looked a bit too shabby.

486439613_IMG_20230602_0821552.thumb.jpg.b6344f3a14c69de41492f05b2d0ad092.jpg

But I will continue my search, never fear!

Meanwhile, one of the Chinesium no-names alongside was losing at the game of 'how little metal can you put in a toy car and still call it a metal toy?'

896057382_IMG_20230602_0822542.thumb.jpg.4a0133e0cbb5afbefbf0a707f17e2de7.jpg

Ah well.

And at this point - with a few notes scrawled on a piece of paper - I believe it's time for Round 2...

Yes I wish they wouldn't use fictitious subjects for the transporters on these sets, it really spoils it. The van above is so very nearly a phase 1 Ford Econoline, why not just get the license and do it right. At nearly 20 quid for the set you'd expect it. The P6 is just great though.

I’m glad it’s not just me that’s grumpy enough to notice this 🤣

I'm interested in thr 1/18 Audi TT and Scorpio estate if they aren't ridiculously priced.

Maisto Audi is great bar the missing mirror - happy to go ahead at £10?

Scorpio is also pretty good, though also lacking a passenger mirror. £5 asked.

I can throw in a full valet as a sweetener... MrsDC's out tonight, so I can close the curtains and get the toothbrush and warm water out, like the big weirdo I am...

I disliked fictitious castings as a kid and still do now.

It also used to annoy me that apart from a Sierra, Citroen CX, Metro and and Escort, the shops round where I lived in the early 1980s didn't stock any of the kinds of cars I'd see on my walk to the shops with my Mum. I only discovered these when I was much older.

I'd have loved a Majorette Simca 1100, Renault 18 or Fiat 127 when I was 4 but they just weren't around.

Yet another poorly executed set of fiction. Why didn't they use the Alitalia striping instead of a botched Marlboro design.

I find pretty much all of the Hot Wheels production to be pointless. They have some great tampo printed detail, but when it comes to racing stuff it is never right. I know they are aimed at kids and they are toys, they do like to get the collectors involved to, but most is just tat and destined to end it's life being battered to death in a Tat Stool holders box.

I was very much a realist as well, my favourite cars I took everywhere as a kid were a MB9 Rover SD1 and an MB56 Cortina GL, these were cars that were everywhere when I was a kid. I’d set my aspirations extremely low from an early age 🤣

I had the SD1 but I thought models of Cortinas and Fiestas didn't exist. I wish I'd had the MB Cortina when I was younger, I'd have loved it.

I still have mine, a metallic green one, they seem really scarce now which is surprising as you’d think they’d still be ten a penny. I had a Mk1 Fiesta by Mira (?) which I got in about late 80’s from a holiday to Menorca, used to love going and picking through all the chod from Guisval, Guiloy and MIRA. They were all prime shite like Renault 14’s, Fuegos that sort of tackle.

Same here! The cars I saw on the streets or people I knew had were the toys I wanted.
All the fantasy and futuristic stuff I absolutely hated, I still hate them now too! Those weird fantasy futuristic Matchbox vehicles used to piss me off no end. There was shit loads of them around and you’d have to spend ages sifting the them to find the good stuff!
Im not much of a lover of hot rods and custom stuff either. I just want a nice stock car/van/truck model…

…This is why I’m not a huge fan of Hot Wheels. Don’t get me wrong, some are very good and I do have plenty. But I’m very selective about which ones I get. Some of the fantasy ones in particular are absolutely awful and there’s so many of them!

I was interested in the weird seventies things like the Soopa Coopa etc but purely out of fascination, the ones that would be played to death would be the Rover and the Cortina. At about 5 my aim in life was to be a scrapman, I was obsessed with breakers yards so I had a box full of broken stuff that I’d arrange on the rug in the house, always in the same space, in the fashion of a breakers yard.

I was probably around 5 years old when I asked for a matchbox Cortina for Christmas, well before the mk4 came out but the mk2’s were no longer current, my parents said they went to every shop they knew and nobody could get them. One shop felt sorry for them and gave them a selection of around 5 cars, the one I liked the most was the Mini, a Cortina was always the ultimate for me. I am glad it is not just me who wanted toys that represented what was around at the time.

Once again, am I you???

I went to Menorca and did exactly the same thing. It was 1993 and I was 13 by then but in spite of that my interest in toy cars never waned. Imagine my surprise when the Guisval carousel still had a Seat 131! They were still really common on the roads around the town so that must explain why the toy was still in production. There were a few other oldies like the BMW 3.0CSL that my brother got but the 131 is the only one that has stayed with me and its still on my shelf today complete with that weird plastic plinth you got.

It’s bizarre isn’t it! I have the 131, the earlier wheels that didn’t run too well then the later super fast type wheels. I think it’s got an advert on it for fags naturally from the days when you could do that. We’d go camping in France in a static and the range of Majorette over there was on another level, I figure when it was the franc it was quite cheap for things like that but must have been expensive to eat out as we used to be eating stuff like chips cooked in the caravan. I remember about that time my dad putting the spare wheel on the roof rack and filling the spare wheel well of the Sierra we had with cartons of wine and mustard. It was only a 1.6 EMAX it must have been fucked by the time we got back up to Sheffield! Slight thread deviation but wine etc must have been bloody expensive in those days to have had to fuck about like that 🤣

Definate yes with the 405 and I'll of course take the Vectra if you bought it,but if you left it there it's no problem.

Yow! That sounds sore... hope she's ok now!

Not a bother - I did grab the Vectra, and as it was part of a number of purchases I bagged it for £4.

Since Market Blokey was looking a tenner for the 405 alone back in May, I reckon you're still up on the deal. 😉

So how did the lunchtime market go, I hear you howl?

Pretty good.

The Maisto Audi TT and Minichamps Scorpio longroof were picked up for @Split_Pin at slightly under target price of £10 and £4 respectively.

1508950428_IMG_20230602_1615232.thumb.jpg.e1607008c4aa7ace304f1fcf246ded78.jpg

The Audi has the usual Maisto precision and appeal, as 'everything opens'!

1189019533_IMG_20230602_1615422.thumb.jpg.f86eaba0939e347b14c80f612f9bb223.jpg

Interior is particularly nice here, too.

814354320_IMG_20230602_1615562.thumb.jpg.b963e237c6b11d971bb573ab58f8dd8f.jpg

It needs a clean, but otherwise will hopefully display well!

The big Matchbox Chevy Suburban for @danthecapriman was still there too, and quickly snaffled - and despite the fact it's 1/24 scale, it's still quite a bit bigger than the 1/18 Audi.

929048143_IMG_20230602_1613272.thumb.jpg.0a8723c8ea625f7145ad3050e958a784.jpg

The detail on it is unreal.

I mean, it's of its time - modelling's come on a bit in the 25 years or so since this was made - but it's got all the comms gear fitted and a boot full of firefighting gear.

1748557832_IMG_20230602_1613462.thumb.jpg.73ae1860da792a495a016395bc4abf08.jpg

It even has seatbelts and flocked carpets too.

2043828289_IMG_20230602_1614392.thumb.jpg.9c8711b7e5baacb38bdaa4e722045bfe.jpg

I'm really impressed with this one - hope you like it too, dude!

The DTM Vectra was secured for @andy18s, alongside the Majorette 405 T16 :

Impressively, the rear section lifts off the Pug, just like the real thing.

Will pop those aside with your other bits and bobs!

And... I picked up one or two things for myself.

I grabbed the Universal Hobbies Bond partwork AMC Matador Coupe, which I believe @flat4alfa had expressed an interest in a few weeks back - but I'm equally happy to keep this one for myself...

1368412525_IMG_20230602_1616312.thumb.jpg.9b93c1ecc5e719e538932fab577e6afc.jpg

It's an odd thing to model, and I like it for that.

Not so mad keen on the front wheels at full lock, but still - dynamic stance, no?

410869227_IMG_20230602_1616432.thumb.jpg.f7e2f9c1737980625f351299a353f4ef.jpg

Plus an Oxford Diecast Bentley S1 Continental, which I'd hemmed and hawed about for weeks when it was out for £10 while rattling round inside its cracked display box.

1766110490_IMG_20230602_1616572.thumb.jpg.73dbb754f92820bff5cd3f8132c02b2a.jpg

It now seems the box has been binned, but I'm not too sad about that. I'll take the £5 saving.

1985139682_IMG_20230602_1617032.thumb.jpg.17e9bd6f0a27dee26ce391285b29d7c7.jpg

Even though I'm not a big fan of prestige stuff in general, I think the big Bentley coop is just one of those cars that looks perfect from every angle.

One I'm less sanguine about the loss of packaging is this...

812855348_IMG_20230602_1618472.thumb.jpg.d6d1151e7a7e0e3d037eea35021b7a18.jpg

This early Corgi Juniors Mercedes minibus was out on the stall in April, still in its original blister pack.

1693143665_IMG_20230428_0747442.thumb.jpg.9cd73d97fc67bc39ec59202fc091db4f.jpg

Somehow, the packaging has been lost. Which is a real pity.

However, silver linings - it did its job perfectly, keeping the bus factory-fresh for nearly 50 years. It really is mint.

A keeper!

And, staying with Corgi... the SD1 police car.

819475472_IMG_20230602_1619142.thumb.jpg.d8fd38e313895a66d866a41129450ac4.jpg

As I say, I have one of these already - a later example with part-tampo decoration, rather than paper stickers all round like this one - so I'll clean this one up and see if I can decide which one I want to keep, and which to pass on.

1221480344_IMG_20230602_1619292.thumb.jpg.a08d64b54931ec528dc14380300f933b.jpg

That interior is bright.

869697899_IMG_20230602_1619402.thumb.jpg.2c94c24612a4fe069e6e6219975b0c0b.jpg

Base is good, too.

Decisions decisions...

Oh, and I got myself a Disco 1 off Colin.

It's tremendously detailed, given the size of it.

But there's more...
