Matchbox caravan £1

Corgi Renna 16 £2, still has the spare wheel with tyre...

IMG_6236.thumb.JPG.3a1571fad253ee2626fffe5c1a8b8a7f.JPG

and working seat backs and parcel shelf

I was also tempted by a quite nice Dinky Ford Thames Atlas Copco in yellow as far as I could see complete for £4 and a Dinky Austin Landcrab in metalic blue, but missing tyres and bonnet for £2. I managed to resist.

Just so happened to call past the big B&M out by Connswater at lunchtime there.

Not a great selection, exactly - despite being one of their bigger stores, there were no single Hot Wheels in evidence at all, and only a couple of clipstrips of Matchbox hung at random points along the toy aisle.

Nothing I hadn't already seen on Sunday over at the Newtownabbey branch, anyway.

Unless there were loads hidden behind the cages...

1324555604_IMG_20230307_1252592.thumb.jpg.ed121bf199297c8a2fbb62edca984e6f.jpg

Plus more Monster Truck action - quite a decent rendering of Bob Chandler's original Bigfoot.

1649004657_IMG_20230307_1254512.thumb.jpg.72fb782b222035b74ef2ee2970f03c8c.jpg

(Or one of them, anyway)

A box of Bburago 1/43s on one of the lower shelves reminded me I haven't seen them locally for a few years - the castings themselves and details aren't bad, but the wheels are still heinous and cheap-looking. Even if the models themselves aren't all that cheap - doesn't seem that long ago since they were 99p.

1913764703_IMG_20230307_1253252.thumb.jpg.4e1a4f5840b7999bedbb4e6cd6f32430.jpg

But it's reassuring that there seem to be a few more options opening up across the country (even if supply is still a bit on the patchy side).

Also stopped by Tesco for a bit of actual shopping, and there were even less Matchbox on their shelves - just a few unloved motorcycle trailers amidst some torn open packets.

I would have taken some poignant pics of the lack of diecast loveliness, but I was put off by some sad-act busy pawing through the Star Wars tat alongside.

A grown man spending his lunchtime looking at kids' toys.

The very idea.

Who knew, if you chop the front off the base of a 55 Nomad...

Workbench is a sea of 1955 Chevrolet parts while working out what fits what. Should be enough bits left to build a two more frankenstein creations. Maisto is sulking at the back because it didn't get a look in

IMG_20230307_153141.jpg.2c77cb8f706d2537352683103eba8ce1.jpg

Modelled on the Chevrolet Blazer

IMG_20230307_153205.jpg.cf1619611ab42e6648875af1dc9c942b.jpg

It was later retooled into the Matchbox Blazer, although the differences are significant to my eye

Some Convoys jiggery-pokery earlier...

Trying to see what's what with the Ford C900.

Despite having some sort of hitch mechanism moulded into the fifth wheel, for some inexplicable reason it's not-quite compatible with the late-era Lesney trailers from 40 years ago.

What an oversight. Tch.

320353781_IMG_20230306_1634562.thumb.jpg.9b3704dd69eaa9539fbe7ae9fc295078.jpg

Still, I reckon it looks quite decent as a full rig.

685872992_IMG_20230306_1635072.thumb.jpg.7d9ab90765d5706f69369e5476befcf2.jpg

Box trailer on the back looks alright too...

1539985868_IMG_20230306_1635492.thumb.jpg.c2fe6149e326a5356f152e3f2877a878.jpg

...but the Shell logo on the rear quarter kinda begs for a tanker trailer.

I think I'm a little shaken by the realisation that my original early-80s Convoys are closer in age to the 1950s and 60s Majors than they are to the modern releases currently on the shelves...

It deserves a recolour perhaps, a new headlamp jewel and a fiddle with the glazing.  I'm pondering the delights* that might be in the Mini thread on Rod'n'Sods .co.uk to get ideas*

You did well there. The Renner is a nice little model.

Might I suggest sir should definitely go back for the Copco truck! They’re very nice too.

Spotted a small lot on eBay with a couple of tidy looking cars

Hot Heap has a couple of bits missing. Maybe that's a job for 3D printed man

Buggy needs a trip around the sink - unfortunately I've had to glue the screen on as it snapped in transit

Old Timers are Welly if anyone cares.

Sprinter was Chinese no name

20230308_125959.jpg

@bunglebusThe Merc Sprinter model is one of 250 produced by Fire Brigade Models & although missing a few bits (the riot shield above the windscreen)  it will still be worth some coin on ebay as an ideal base for a code 3 model.

Boxed & complete would see circa £60 - £70 +

Eldorato might be an actual pronounciation variation ...which might explain the Eldorato Airport in Columbia.  But am not native Spanish speaker.

Would go well with the Lancia Storatus and the Racaing Jaguar XJ6

Don't know about you but I've given up finding a Sugar Daddy Eldorado.  Might be easier to make one!
