Can anyone identify this? It’s got a button on the bottom. No idea what that does.

Kentoys. Loads on Ebay. The button lights up the lights, so I guess there must be a battery inside. I think it is under the rear axle cover that is held in place by the shiney screw.

Heads up - last of my spare diecasts should be going on my sales thread at 6pm

I had a couple of deliveries. Bought a job lot of mostly beaten up Matchbox, although there are a couple of half decent survivors in there such as this Marzal

20230220_151618.thumb.jpg.5ad0bf2b70d05a8dd49bda784ca63fcd.jpg

Main target was the last of the HW series copies of 70s Matchbox, Corgi etc. This is 308 - may not look familiar...

Typically after buying this another appeared for less money so I may have a spare...

Another donor. This poor thing has obviously spend some time buried in the garden and the body is falling apart

Majorette Pontiac isn't too bad other than someone attempting to glue the bonnet shut!

Feeling particularly low energy at the moment. Here's a one-pic-two-cars stiuation. If anyone really wants more I can expand, but I'm guessing everyone knows the score by now? Old Italian 60s diecasts/ nice quality/ I'm not a collector/ ladies love me.

Yes, I would like to hear about the Alfa Romeo on the right.

I have a plastic model of that body and never did find out what it was, despite a search about La rete informatica internazionale.

It's a tad larger than 1:43, the Del Prado Giulia TZ next to it to compare.

Do you (or anyone!?) know anything about that weird Tomy truck?
It sure is an odd thing but I couldn’t find out anything about them. Does it have a trailer even?
I’ve never seen one before until that one, although that’s not saying much!

My latest eBay finds and a few from a local-ish tat shop.

Some old Hot Wheels, all from around 1979 - 1981ish I think. US autoshite!

A few newer Hot Wheels.

Newer Matchbox.

And finally an AutoWorld Chevy square body. Which looks great imho. I’m really liking these American Greenlights/AutoWorld etc ones.

It seems the Toby is a product of Marx toys, and some were sold with that brand name on - here are some complete ones

Toby branded stuff seems to be quite expensive on eBay. I just liked the weirdness

They certainly are weird, definitely not seen those before!
It would look great in polished up bare metal.

Wow, amazing, do you remember which shop? Thos are mostly quite expensive but the Bertone Mustang is probably a bargain at that price, and one that very rarely seems to come up for sale in the UK. Guess I know where I'm going next weekend...

The red Alfa is the Giulietta-based Canguro. Mine is a 1:43 Politoys - I'll post some more pics up soon

I was correct in my assumption on that Mustang then!  Cor, I did a good thing.

Just wandered up the road just now on the Google Map Streetable and found I can just about see the display through a doorway.  So did some reverse searchabling and came up with

12 High Street, Arundel, 07762 408994

It’s one of those stack ‘em high three story outfits that probably don’t shift an awful lot half-past February, so hopefully they should be open to a postal deal over the phone

Heh, that's the same shop where I bought this Pilen Talbot Alpine. Small world, etc etc.

Cost me a fiver, I believe. No box and warped glazing.

It was also twenty years ago, I shudder to realise...

This place?

Yes that place.  A new Mecca for Shiny-Tat?

If you zoom in through the doorway at that angle, you can see the cabinet where the the elusive Politoys Ford Mustang by Bertone currently lives

Untitled.jpg.8324e60724c4501b3f05e3454b3a08a9.jpg

I couldn't stay long in the shop as 1) I had the wrong glasses on, lighting was poor so wandering about a store like that I'll likely be a nuisance and trip/knock things flying, 2) Wife was making daggers as it was supposed to be our long-weekend away of lust.  Not die-cast lust.

So a photo was attempted for your delectation, as the Mustang stood out as something I knew had never seen before, but all the more so the intriguing history around the real thing

bertonemustang1.webp.d099832b34146588414af498b887b322.webp

You see.  It is lost, missing, not seen since 1966.  Nobody knows what happened to it.

Despite many trying, including the American that commissioned it as a conversion of his own private car in first place.  Ford was keen to assist (perhaps it was a Ford lease car after all) and once finished it was displayed at the April 1965 New York Auto Show

1069742392_bertone1965fordmustang.jpg.c0746becb4664cd1133b5959c2445d80.jpg

The last it was seen was when Road & Track borrowed it to run their January 1966 cover article on it.

73-4.jpg.9d108cf45aa1faeadb0a0a9747a4c91d.jpg

However in September 1967 this advert appeared in Road & Track,  which implies it went back to Europe as the price offered included shipping from Genoa

bertone3-1533905191.thumb.jpg.362c9857a0866dcbe168e82abe502fa9.jpg

However, Bertone was never able to produce a record of its sale and the 2014 liquidators could not either.  It was assumed to remain tucked away in the Bertone collection, but they did not find it.

If it ever resurfaces, Pebble Beach will likely have a de-factor winner that year.

Anyway back on topic.  There are three ways into obtaining a scale model Mustang Bertone example, all at 1:43 scale.

The Politoys is die-cast, has opening things and a detailed engine bay.  First in catalogue for 1968, it was produced in silver or yellow.

696558993_Politoys-549-Ford-Mustang-Bertone-pic3(1).jpg.e78756370760f59017cac1620b71e47e.jpg

There was a USSR-made release (brand KIEV) using the Politoys moulds.  Initially die-cast from around 1980, later in plastic which ran to 1990.

5a8366ec8b013.jpg.5f35d4146a16509e5d6202bd7734d008.jpg

For the discerning collector, Matrix in recent years produced a resin model in limited numbers.  It's pretty unlikely any of those have left their plinths.

DanBox touched down yesterday morning.

And inside are...

Many wonderful things from the 1960s Lesney King Size range.

Cheers for that, dude! Very pleased with this lot - more detailed perusal to follow.

Of course, as luck would have it, only MrsDC was at home to receive parcels yesterday, since I was away out attending a transport planning meeting.

She hasn't mentioned it. Yet.

I guess I could say it's gardening equipment?

Given the absolute state of the back garden in the new place, regular Matchbox aren't gonna be up to the job this time round - it's gonna take King Size heft to get it all done...
