Majorette even faithfully recreated Volvo's annoying use of saloon rear doors on the estate.

The one I picked up at Brentwood last month was the same colour, but with the other wheel style:

Seen here with the CX estate I picked up on the same day, in What Car? group test mode.

I do get frustrated with Mattel's blindness to their being anyone outside of America that might possibly want Hot Wheels and Matchbox, especially when they release a store exclusive that I really want! Was rather a lot more than a regular Hot Wheels but considering the recent supermarket price hikes, not that much more...

More charity shop rummagings

As yet unidentified Hot Wheels Ultra Hots Road Torch - quite a mission to ID as there have been several castings under multiple names, based on the AMX/2 concept going back to 1971. This one dates from 1987

I managed to resist the hookless BP version and a blue Super GT Datsun 126X - and this

Still can't find one!

Asda have Majorette 5 packs, and Hot Wheels are priced at £1.90

20230204_141019.jpg

Our local Asda have just got those Majorette packs in. I had that one in my hand and very nearly had it in the trolley, especially as I've been after one of those Hyundai N30s for bloody ages. But it was only that and the new shape Audi A1 I was really interested in and didn't want to spaff a shameful tenner on a pack with a 2:5 want ratio.

Elsewhere was the same story, 2 X B&Ms, Tesco, Morrisons, Entertainer. Plenty of Hot Wheels kicking about but all from a couple of cases back, the one with the Volvo P1800 and Mustang SVO. Still hunting for the green Mazda Savanna, Caddy Seville and '84 Corvette but losing interest now. Another fiver's fuel or so wasted today (and the last few weekends) for fuck all. And yet those of us who buy diecast online when we can't find anything in the shops are labelled idiots...

Hunted in vain in Tesco for any Capris, but this may be the shape of things to come...

A load of them, on the pegs where the Matchbox mainlines are normally found. Note the only MBs available, like the metaphorical turds that won't flush...

Yes I was going  to say the same - I suspect now they've lost the exclusive contract, Metal Machines will replace Matchbox

Didn't know that existed. I love the AMX/2, and most AMC stuff actually. I really like saying designer's name: Dick Teague. Rolls off the tongue. I reckon the AMX/2 would have made the best Mebetoys/Hot Wheels or even Pilen 1:43 back in 1971. Alas.

The redline version with opening hatches at the back is lovely

71_amx2_louver.thumb.jpg.83268c9e2442ffc2c25299d6d269d525.jpg

1971: Called AMX/2

1973: Called Xploder

1975: Called Warpath

1985: Called Redliner, now without the opening covers, only released once as an Ultra Hot in Spectraflame gold

1987: Called Road Torch - again only released once, in red as found today

And the "real" car

Quote originally from Dan's sales thread - just looking at the two Tonkas, I thought the above ID was spot on - but on closer inspection at least one if not both are different. Here's the black and red car from Dan;

Tonka 458 Frantic Flivver

And my Frantic Flivver;

Tonka 458 Frantic Flivver

Bonnet Louvres, grille, lights and number plate are different, as well as the wheels. Looking underneath;

I don't have a Scorcher but I suspect it's the same story. Anyone know what they're officially named? Tonka are a pain sometimes!

The 1987 release was one of the few cars my brother had. I always wondered what it was. I think it'd still at my parent's house.

What sort of prices were the Sikus?.I paid £15 for this one in a battered box from my local toyfair20230205_134143.thumb.jpg.0e507c42547cbd8d1e97bb3981f94cc7.jpg

Then I paid a bit* more for this loose Ford Cargo from eBay20230205_134213.thumb.jpg.b574cafe3e28307259e6a7a6b059ac78.jpg

But to make up for it,this trailer was £2.00,also from eBay20230205_134411.thumb.jpg.0ba1960f1c8297905819ddc1cf1a5b1f.jpg

I was going to hook it up to the Ford Cargo tractor unit in the background,but it didn't look right,so it can sit with this Corgi Cadbury's unit for now.I think they go together pretty well20230205_134430.thumb.jpg.dc9a635877db4791554443e5803c202e.jpg
