Well worth picking up a couple of those I think, a set for just £8.83 GBP

Yeah a bit too expensive for me, I did buy the F+F set for the MK1 Escort in Asda for similar money. Germany is not a bargain basement but it does offer better choice than we get

Germany has the EU bloc 19% VAT equivalent so ought to be similar

Stock choices should* be led by demand.  Perhaps we just don't buy enough

Smyths and Entertainer have the UK sown-up as so many independents were closed / swallowed.  It pains me when I walk into Entertainer (especially) and see big boxed pre-school/toddler toys that surely they can't shift many of, yet leave other lines such as die-cast so sparse.  And what's with those overflowing stands of Schleich farm animals

As a change from all this agonising about new models (justified though it is) here's a look at one of my projects.

I wanted a mk2 Cortina in 1/43 to represent the last car my dad bought new, way back in 1967.  The 1600 engine had just come out so he got a good deal on a 1500 Super in maroon, which he called Black Cherry.  Contemporary models of the mk2 came from Matchbox and Dinky, in approximately 1/64 and 1/43 respectively.  I've never had the Dinky but that doesn't matter because it's a two-door and our car had four.  The Matchbox was also a two-door, but some years ago I converted one to four-door and it's been in my Family Fleet wing of the collection ever since.  More recently I've decided to add some more 1/43s, where the only model I have is smaller, and the Cortina is one that I can do because there's a perfectly acceptable Vanguards model these days, and thanks to a fine gentleman from these parts who shall remain nameless, I have the Boy Racer edition at a scrap price to use as my base.  Except... even the Vanguard Cortina is only a two-door.

Well it WAS!

Out go the B pillars.  I've kept them in case I can use them a bit further forward, because obviously the Cortina was never available as a pillarless hardtop (shame on you, Ford!).  The shell will now have to wait until I'm mixing up some filler in the spring (I have other cars needing some) because obviously the door shut line is in the wrong place now.  Then I will have to take a deep breath and with a very steady hand, scribe new verticals where they should be.  I probably won't follow the line of the rear arch!  And then it can be painted maroon.

Speaking of paint...

The Boy Racer edition comes with a beige interior, which, on the whole, Cortinas didn't back then.  I remember them being mostly black; certainly ours was.  So what you see above is a little Humbrolling to correct that.  The dash is black already, but unfortunately has a supplementary instrument pod cast into the top, which the Super didn't have.  I'm not going to try and re-sculpt it though.  The BR also has a sunstrip at the top of the windscreen bearing the names Mick and Tracey.  I've removed that with a small file.  It also has a lovely pair of bullet mirrors on the front wings, which have gone into a spares pot.  I'm sure I'll find a use for those.

More pictures to follow in a few months.

Not posted in ages, because while hundreds of die cast buses have arrived since before Christmas, no cars.

Until now. And an unusual one for me, both in scale and manufacture.

Mrs CSW's Disco 3 has been in the garage for nearly two weeks, so thought I would buy her a model to remind her that she still owns one.

Its the only one I could find in the same colour. Same spec too.

Never bought in this scale before or had something from Britain's.

Must say, its pretty good. Very good likeness. Im impressed.

Hey yeah that's damn nice. That reminds me I have a Britain's Freelander in the loft but I'm sure it's bigger than 1:32. Which makes no sense as Britain's have of course modeled in that scale forever.

I've got a whacking great collection of Britain's farm stuff, and didn't even know they'd did this. I think it must have only been in their catalogues for a short period (Britain's often only did a short production run on some vehicles). The old Discovery 1 model they did often had a horrifically deformed front bonnet edge which ruined the look of the rest of the model. The Freelander Hippo was nice though.

FFS.  I haven't seen stock like that since early 2021.  That's like the end of a rainbow, that lot

It's only 50 miles from here, how can they get distribution SO WRONG

I'm gonna stick my neck out and abandon all notion of being politically correct and say that Natasha is not of the demographic to have a fucking clue what she is talking about on this particular subject.

The demographic that allows themselves extremely easy to dox.  Shocking, really.  Even found out home address without trying and can confirm the front lawn turf is of the artificial variety, in case we were in doubt

To be fair, I've haven't a clue what a 'Pulp Riot' is, but I want one now

Bedford CA van

You win!

I made an cheeky offer, it was accepted, then I fell into pit of despair.  The box has been discarded, out of shame.  I'm going to have to repackage it a Lesney or summat if it goes into storage

It is smaller than the Morris LD!  Which is the only other Odell EnoG SyaD that is here.

IMG_20230202_105957_3.thumb.jpg.38b21d1073d1e15694ca03a0717bfe14.jpg

I thought it would be same scale :( as the Morris, which is 1:48, but the Bedford measures to approx 1:53.

IMG_20230202_105925_3.thumb.jpg.ce0a7cef00d99acc216b4a11f334d694.jpg

So had to fiddle with the perspective to get a photo together, which put the Morris out of focus.  Gits.

Still nice though.  I think?  Help me, here.

Nothing new in Smyths or Entertainer - other than these. Can't see them flying off the shelves at £21 though

They had a Hot Wheels delivery yesterday but someone bought the whole sealed box. I asked if they return the ones they don't want but apparently not - who knows what they do with all the generic cars and endless Batmobiles

Nobody is going to pay £21. Another example of how clueless the marketing team are in the U.K.

Some DG are worth having and sort after, especially the limited editions, just depends on the subject.

And talking of Morris LD vans, the Vitesse (sometimes sold under the City brand) ones are quite good.
