I’ll get better pics later with a camera that’s not absolutely shit.
Dinky Wayne school bus. This is very very cool! Definitely one of my favourites, and it’s absolutely huge!
The chassis plate has been pushed in slightly but I’ll pull it back out which should be easy enough and the tyres aren’t great so I’ll find a full set for it. But, I really like this one.

I think this evening I will have to tell my wife that the reason I keep furtively checking my phone every 5 minutes is that I'm having an affair.

I was getting asked the other night why I was on my phone so much. Thankfully potentially buying more toy cars is OK, chatting to other females not so much

Picked up yet another one of these too,

This one’s really nice. So nice Batman & Robin are chopping in their Batmobile and taking this instead!
I think that takes me up to 4 Corgi Major Carrimore’s of various types! But they’re great to display the cars with so that’s my excuse.

I love the Corgi Buick Regal’s. Those big ones I’ve got a really good standard police version, and a tatty Metropolis police one and a royally screwed Kojak one. My plan is to strip the two tatty cars and repaint into a nice civilian colour to make a nice custom version.
I’ve got a few of the Juniors version here too.

Okay so - once more into the fray, just after 12, for the Final Showdown.

Clutching my little list, I dodged various lunchtime marketgoers balancing teetering plates of falafels alongside guitarists warbling Elton John numbers, and  made a beeline for the Bus Box.

Ah, bollocks.

Oooh I'd definitely give that B&H Lynx a home. Been after one for ages.

Sadly, you may be waiting a little longer... of all the buses, the Brighton & Hove Lynx was gone.

I shoulda gone with my instincts and picked it up at the time.

Daaah.

Next, I plunged into the Matchbox+ box.

Well now, there was happier news here.

Oh yes please (all three). Very happy with those other Majos especially the Golf, I think that's a bit of a rarity

I quickly located the black 911, and one of the red ones, but there was no sign of the second red 911... until this showed up.

Yes, that's two near-identical red 911s crammed upside down into a twin-pack, and then taped up.

So that's quite a few 911s today! Got charged the same for the twin pack as for the singles,  so hopefully they'll be some use to you...

Happy to home the transit speculative majorette purchase @Datsuncog  and the recent Micra & Range Rover if there still there.

With the Mk3 Transit's future secured, a good hoke through the box happily dredged up the other two desired items:

Hopefully this was the Range Rover you had in mind - there were also some black Matchbox Rangies in the same box!

Hi @Datsuncog If you have the chance please pick up any Matchbox Volvo C30s that aren't gold (not sure if there's a red one lurking in the pic near the bottom)

IMG_20230120_082706~2.jpg

And also the Majorette Citroen C4VTS in green (If there's one in black or red I'd prefer it but not too fussy)

IMG_20230120_082817~2.jpg

If it's difficult then no problem and thanks anyway

Some further searching confirmed no other C30s or C4s in the box - so I got this one, just.

I know I had a silver one of these once in the past, but I now don't know where it went...

The potential red C30 at the bottom of the photo turned out to be a Majorette BMW X5!

Gaaah! Late to the Friday tat party as always...

If you go another time could you grab a red MB Audi Avant and one or both of the Majorette Micra's please DC? Ta muchly.

Not too late, as it happens - the second Micra was also still kicking around the box, and a further guddle pulled out a red Audi (the last one, I think).

Will have a look next time for the green Mazda!

Phew!

With my diecast fix-it hat now removed, I had a further poke around the stall - though not much had changed.

Sales hadn't been overly brisk up top - though a Matchbox Beetle had appeared in the intervening hours.

Duller blue Wagonaire confirmed as a juvenile repaint, not a $$$$ pre-prod rarity.

Ah well.

Speaking of rarities, the Milton/ Miltan Luxury Coach had also left the stage - but when editing the pics earlier, I'd been intrigued by what looked like an unusually large blue and white single-decker coach right at the back - bigger than the 1/50 scale Corgi Classics Bedford OBs and the like.

The detail really is remarkable, given that it's all done by hand.

721286207_IMG_20230120_1255412.thumb.jpg.626df1fd76aeef7db77804d2f53d53ec.jpg

And unlike the 1/76 scratch-builds from last week (identified by the eagle-eyed @quicksilver), there's little doubt about the constructor here.

2014624829_IMG_20230120_1255322.thumb.jpg.9f3ed64860d4087fd9cf3d38deb30f41.jpg

Impressive bit of kit - so much work's gone into it. Hopefully it'll find an appreciative home.

This Joal Scania is similar to one I picked up a few years back, but has blue stripes on it - which I don't believe the other one did.

848168328_IMG_20230120_1256182.thumb.jpg.2b487d3e6638a89bfc64c5a038a165b2.jpg

With less time pressure, I also paused to prod around in a box of railway bits and bobs on the floor:

1743663491_IMG_20230120_1257302.thumb.jpg.02b48036911617620bb8020baf6effa9.jpg

A Triang 'Periwinkle Road & Railway' set - or some of it, anyway. Including assorted bits of Triang's unsuccessful Lego competitor, 'Pennybrix'.

995230645_IMG_20230120_1257562.thumb.jpg.5afc4b0e6704c636346d9e09a11441cc.jpg

The train is pretty basic, and I couldn't see the car "with Periwinkle himself" anywhere in the box.

1407932555_IMG_20230120_1300212.thumb.jpg.5858103e4c2a4c6cc1b46ca51f7ef558.jpg

No idea who Periwinkle is, but I'll presume it's the leprechaun-looking fella on the front of the box, signalling a track hazard.

Seems that these have some collectability anyway, although this set's a bit borderline.

TRI-ANG M1001 `PERIWINKLE RAILWAY` SUPERB BOXED CONDITION !! - Tri-angman

There was also an ultra-basic wind-up Hornby train set in there, just about within its box.

599431054_IMG_20230120_1258262.thumb.jpg.3bdde6ac2a65743f9bee055a7cf8cafc.jpg

I remember seeing this in old 1970s Hornby catalogues - a single oval of track, with a clockwork loco and some very basic rolling stock, plus a level crossing.

1476927481_IMG_20230120_1259012.thumb.jpg.44f375d148cc427f8db6b4b5ce317cc2.jpg

Never actually seen one outside the catalogue, but still - not something I really need right now.

I suppose I also didn't really need another Lite-Ace either, but nonetheless I seemed to have acquired one.

1072851278_IMG_20230120_1340162.thumb.jpg.d7e85cb2d8a491658434d24b17210628.jpg

It's in good enough condition - some very small marks to some edges, just.

684391061_IMG_20230120_1340382.thumb.jpg.5d41112feeaf07a6836e2106e0004b60.jpg

It definitely doesn't belong in this packaging, though.

Like the other unhomed Majorettes - holler if you fancy this for £1.

[EDIT - now taken!]

And earlier on I'd been initially delighted to glimpse a rectangular blue box in amongst all the 2000s Matchbox - and then crestfallen to discover it was empty...

334472391_IMG_20230120_1341162.thumb.jpg.ae40616e2b7325f631ef0652857204a2.jpg

But while sifting earnestly for specific items at lunchtime, right at the bottom of the box I found...

1507976344_IMG_20230120_1341282.thumb.jpg.cdeb69582c7ecebb84bc0c047e8ac517.jpg

Oh, nice. And not looking any the worse for its escape.

1415806559_IMG_20230120_1341352.thumb.jpg.ad0b022079903dc9ac2c000e3bccaf7c.jpg

The clear plastic is banjaxed, but at least that means it can be retrieved without busting open the glued flaps.

595819174_IMG_20230120_1342162.thumb.jpg.562109692988be7a456c9650eaed983d.jpg

That's not bad for a quid, I guess. I might hang on to this one myself...

So, ultimately this is the full haul for today:

1360445255_IMG_20230120_1343492.thumb.jpg.caa8961aed3a7a4ac2164f2dcc02f732.jpg

I'm going to get flayed when I get home, aren't I?

Just to recap, still available are:

  • White Majorette Toyota Lite-Ace (£1) NOW SOLD!!
  • Silver Majorette Saab 900 Turbo (£1)
  • Tomica Fuji Coach, 'Chuo Bus' (£3)
  • Tomica Neoplan Coach, 'Rettinghaus Reisen' (£3)

The rest I will add to the spreadsheet as and when I get a chance - ceiling painting beckons this weekend, but surely I'll get a few minutes to tot things up at some point... Hopefully!

Happy Friday, kids.

Now that is interesting. I have some 1/76 scratch-builds with the very same name and address labels on, bought on ebay a few years ago from a seller not far from me in Brackley. He may not have built it himself though as the ones I have are the unmistakable handiwork of Bill Day (but that definitely isn't one of Bill's). I assume Mr Wilson is no longer with us and that's why his collection has been scattered, but I suspect Market Blokey didn't buy that directly from his estate and it's been owned by someone else in the meantime. I'd be very interested to find out where he's getting this weird and wonderful collection from.

As far as I can tell, he sources most of his stock from auctions around Belfast - generally house clearance auctions, or else collectables auctions like Laganside - though he sometimes gets stuff direct from people coming into the market too. Boxes of assorted models generally go at auction for about £80 - £120, and there are plenty of them up regularly. I have a look every now and again, and I've considered putting in my own bids, but I really don't think that's a road I should be going down...

At a guess, these have all been sourced via a deceased estate. And I'll bet the boxes all got slung out, while the loose buses were chucked in a crate (hence the chipping/ loss of mirrors etc).

I've asked Millar (Market Blokey) before about his stock, and he generally shrugs - by his own admission, he's no real interest in diecast or models in general. So yeah - real mystery stuff!

Then found out it sold for £3 !

Cockbadgers.

Time moves on ^

Now got two Mini-Dinky Mercedes 230 SL, W113 series...   surprised the bidding only went to £2.75.  Must have paid double or more for the less tidy example a year ago

It has opening things!  And an engine suspiciously large for a 230.

1.thumb.jpg.a611043bb80bdd424b4d0597e80c53d3.jpg

So a SL party of W113s was gathered!

L>R:  Lone Star Tuf Tot (1:86 scale), Mini-Dinky (1:65), Hongwell (1:72)

3.thumb.jpg.9add811ad4f38b2aa7c2072058b33ea0.jpg

French Dinky, Spot-On, New-Ray.  All in 1:43 scale

The Matchbox and Corgi Juniors examples all avoided the event, for some reason.  Will see about that another time, maybe.

Ah, that's not such bad news. The thrill of the chase is almost equalled by the relief of not having to explain to my better half why ANOTHER bus has arrived. I did explain that you wait for one and then three come at once but yada yada yada etc etc etc etc

On another note, but still pertaining to diecast buses, my attention was drawn to this website, (don't worry, kids, it's perfectly safe) which I regard with admiration.

Basically, somebody who hoards collects model buses has taken their hobby a step further than most.

I can imagine, as a child, producing a "fleet list" of the models in my collection. I can even imagine myself acting out a bus operator cosplay routine. Here, though, we're going through the looking glass, creating an actual fully-fledged website for said 1:76-scale bus and coach operation.

It's so comprehensive that it needs a disclaimer:

Note: THIS IS NOT A REAL COMPANY & FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY

I strongly suspect that our fleet manager is no child, but nevertheless it's quite wonderful and I heartily approve.

That's not at all unusual - there's a whole section of the Model Bus Federation for fleet operators and even a quarterly magazine detailing fleet news in the style of Buses magazine. Some of my friends have been 'operating' their fleets for decades and have literally thousands of vehicles on the scale of the big real-world groups. My username comes from my own fleet, nowhere near the same scale as the big ones and I don't bother with things such as timetables and vehicle rosters, but it gives a better reason for my collection to exist and adds more interest than just a random collection of models. I've never heard of that fleet though so it's possibly not an MBF member.

I also went 2nd hand tat hunting today

I was seriously tempted by this heavily playworn Matchbox in a Days Gone box (or did Mr Odell keep the rights to that one?), but managed to keep the £2.50 in my pocket
