sutty2006
So I am sat in my living room watching my 15 month old lad playing with his toys. And I got thinking about all the stuff I have in the loft that I can pass down to him. One thing crossed my mind, I have a Britains Task force set up there he can have. Some bits are missing and probably damaged so let’s have a look on eBay …. The base I have 😲 ouch. Ok. Maybe the figures I have? (Or don’t have because they’re lost) ouch again….. then I remember they did a white and brown Landrover that I never had because money… oh wow. That’s crazy money. such a shame. But I guess they are in collector’s possession now, and kids don’t want them. If anyone has any old Britains task force stuff, for reasonable coin, that my lad can grow up with should me up! Datsuncog
A recent arrival here, too - one that was held over for the festivities. My phone camera's not quite that stellar, but hopefully you'll get the general idea - 1/43 IXO Mk2 Granada estate, in facelifted 2.8 Ghia spec. The added towbar's a nice touch. Light lenses are mildly shonky, with one lens on the foglight missing entirely, but the overall presence is pretty damn good. Mildly chunky wipers too, but the roof rails aren't bad. There used to be a lot of these around locally in the 90s, often pulling caravans or transporting antiques, but it's been a long while since I've seen a real one on the road! eddyramrod, danthecapriman, Jon and 13 others

The one on the right is the Daktari one and would have had a LION on the bonnet but that probably died of old age years ago. I seem to have acquired a Daktari, confirmed by the remains of the sticker under the screen 'WAMERU SUB-DISTRICT', ...but no Camo print at all. I wonder if it was at one time valuable for that reason. It also has the decorative cast hubs, which is why it's still back here to provide spares The two in the middle with camo are 'Lions of Longleat' versions. The one on the end in blue is a repaint over red, not a Breakdown or a Chipperfields, so possibly just a basic red with bonnet-mounted spare wheel At the front are SII and SI examples of what were the Breakdown Truck, both hopeless now to do any sort of recovery. eddyramrod, Sudsprint, andrew e and 1 other

All they released last year was a bunch of Fords and some VW vans. The range is just minimal now. A lot of collectors will just move on to other brands to get their fix. It's a shame as Vanguards used to filled the gap of old British classics that the other manufacturers ignored. Their plans for new castings this year are for the new Transit and the Ford Raptor. Who are those for? Why not do an Allegro Estate, or the Chevette, maybe a Hillman Hunter. Split_Pin, AndyW201 and Datsuncog
sierraman
It’s about time another brand stepped in, the quality of some of the latest diecast presumably from China knocks Vanguards into a hat. I don’t really rate them, fine when they were ten quid but now they’re £40 odd quid, I think not. I saw a 1/18 Granada at a swap meet last week, it was a work of art, the proportions were bang on. Then I read they are £80 which seems an absolute steal.

AndyW201
TBF current Vanguards aren't quite at the £40 odd mark just yet, it's possible to get one with postage for less than the £35 mark. Although eBay is full of Poundshop Alan Sugars who buy in bulk from Corgi and try and make a massive £7 or so profit on each one. Problem is that generally, as mentioned, people are shying away from them, as they are just re-coloured Ford after re-coloured Ford, so don't attract the instant miniature scene tax they used to. But IXO models are still around the £30-£35 mark delivered if you want the ones that are better detailed and packaged than the partwork models, so there's still not really a lot in it. There was much excitement at the beginning of this year with the news of four new castings. Then the Transit Custom and Raptor were announced and collectors thought Corgi had lost their minds. Considering A] the last time they introduced a modern range under the Vanguards brand, it was a disaster. B] Greenlight have already done a Transit Custom and it hardly set the world on fire. Although the prototypes do show a bodykit'n'big rimz version so I wonder if they're gambling on 'Gaz the joiner/plumber' wanting a replica of his work van. More serious collectors than me have been participating in the recent Q&A with Corgi and sadly it seems that this is the path they're going down. Apparently there's no business in nostalgia any more, nobody is interested in classic car models and that we should expect more newer models. Supposedly, out of each new casting, they have to get at least three runs/variants of at least 1000 units per run to at least break even on the tooling costs, which to be fair does rule a lot of people's wish lists out. Of course an ideal solution would be to have Oxford Diecast cover, say the 60s classics people want (but then, they're in as much of a soup as Corgi), keep the Vanguards range in the eras it represents now, and have a new Corgi branded range of modern 1/43 models. Problem is, the recently announced Focus MK3 RS has sold out on pre-orders alone, so this will convince them that teh modern Fordz is the right way to go. They've promised more variety and new tooling for 2024, but 2023 is going to be another Fordathon. But if the recently launched Mk5 Cortina is anything to go by with its casting flaws and poor quality control then, as predicted, people are going to go elsewhere. I'm also thinking that bits from the XR3 might be useful for this wondrous creation that arrived today: Airfix rebox of an MPC kit. The EXP was US Escort-based and some versions used the distinctive XR3 alloys. I could also cross-pollinate the kits by putting the EXP's turbocharged 1.9 CVH into the Escort.
