I guess it's just a Kadett in a new colour mocked up using an old prototype before it got the vents??? bunglebus
bunglebus
Some of those premium sets in Smyths - no Ford one of course. Came out of Luton via an employee apparently. It looked really good was a metallic green GLS spec with Rostyles and tartan velour . Some GM rationalisation I expect. In the same way the Cavalier Coupe and Sportshatch bodies went into production (as the sport offering, perhaps as Capri had gone up in size), they also never did a Cavalier A or Ascona B estate - that role was given to the Chevette / Kadett estate body, and Granada. This Gemini with Vauxhall badging was presented at Luton. But it's LHD... andrew e and Remspoor
Jon
I've come up to Auckland for a piss-up end of year networking event, so thought I'd pop in to my favourite toy hobby shop, to see what was kicking about. Here's some Vanguards, if anyone can see anything of worth, to pick up? More to come, I've kept the images large, so you can zoom in on the prices. bunglebus, Split_Pin, AndyW201 and 2 others
Jon
Part 2. Apologies for the glare but it's a bright sunny day here, around 28 Celsius. You know what it's like this time of year, eh? Anyway, I've been a bit cheeky here, as I did pick up an item of interest, to help fund what I found next.... Jon
Scrabbling round the $1 (50p) tub, I gathered up these bits of mild interest: Zylmex E Type, Kidco Fire Chief Something, FORD* station wagon, Fire Motion (Pontiac GTO?) Made in China no-named casting and a slightly scruffy Siku VW Transporter. Most/all can be passed on at cost, if it's worth bundling them in with other stuff down the line, to post to the UK. But mostly, I was gladly that I had cash on me, so I could buy all this, without having to reveal the true price to Mrs_Jon (although she probably wouldn't be that bothered, tbh) !!!!!!! A fresh collection of fire vehicles has been dropped in, due to a collector downsizing for a house move. Despite volunteering as a firey, it's very much the vintage Siku element that drew me in. I'm truly hard pushed to select a favourite but the Trekker is quite special, as is the Granada with all its little road cones. And the Benz 406D van has so many accessories! Anyway, my networking event has just begun and here I am, about an hour away from the venue, piddling about with toy cars for the benefit of about 8 middle aged men on the internet. If anyone desperately wants any of the Vanguards swiping up, let me know before 8pm tonight, so I can nip by and grab them on my way home. Split_Pin
The Siku collection is fantastic, well played! Middle aged - ahem. Actually, I'm 43 so I probably am - crikey! 😂 I'd love a similar ADAC set up. I have a Ford Cargo truck with a helicopter and a VW Passat estate however I'd like to find more items. danthecapriman
Picked this up recently. Absolutely lovely Caprice yellow cab. Doesn’t look like it’s got a mark on it. Even the wheel treads are still unworn and shiny. I had no idea Corgi even made this model until I saw this one. Wish that shop was near me! 😆There are a couple of Vanguards there that are priced a good few quid below UK eBay prices, the Roman Bronze Granny, Astra GTE and Turbosystems Sapphire Cossie all go for about £30+ over here. If nothing else though, I'd be stashing that Richard Burns Sunbeam away for Teh Investmentz, Any sporty Sunbeam model goes for good money now and Vanguards RB stuff is starting to appreciate (see how the Pug 205 did on eBay) now the Colin McRae stuff has gone stratospheric... bunglebus
I bought just this from the charity shop I didn't need it if course, I just always feels sorry for stuff like that in a basket full of half naked Barbies and Real Toy junk. Datsuncog
Looks in similar nick (and purchased for similar reasons) to last Friday's acquirements. Just looked a bit too nice to be stirred around with the other junk, causing the paint to get knocked after 40+ years. Unsullied wheels suggest a collection-minded first owner, rather than a kid firing them off a concrete ramp... bunglebus
Sometimes a box of old junk turns up in the post and it takes me a minute to work out why I bought it. There are a few tidy Matchbox here, some not the most desirable though: There's a spare purple Ferrari if anyone's interested...? This was the one I wanted though. RoadworkUK
The combination of purple and those swirly wheels on that Fezza 456 makes it look all the more like a Ford Probe. bunglebus
sierraman
They aren’t regular wheels, they’re just the narrow plastic ones. They did still make regular wheels post 1969 For the hay trailer and the brief twin pack Alvis Stalwart in the 70’s but they were probably old stocks they had left. A bit like the left over Mercedes 300SE castings from the military versions, painted them silver and sold them through Tesco in the early 80’s. bunglebus

danthecapriman
I’ve just bagged a couple of Corgi Ford Sierra’s off eBay, the larger model not the juniors. They’re the made in GB version and one is still boxed. But the box has ‘Ford’ branding and info etc about the Sierra, not a normal Corgi box. Where the early ones part of some sort of Ford promotional thing for the new Sierra? I have noticed the wheels on the original GB made ones are unique but were ditched on later models for the standard Corgi wheel. eddyramrod, bunglebus and Remspoor

Yes, the first was the yellow model that was introduced round launch time, so any yellow ones will be the oldest, red, then the metallic brown ones came, followed by the beige taxi spec one. Then post ‘84 they released them in a variety of shades. As far as I know they continued in production until the early 90’s, some of the late ones had a cheaper four spoke wheel on them and came with the bigger box that had the emblem. I picked up a yellow one a month or two back to replace the one I had as a kid. danthecapriman

I’ve got a really nice dark blue one too, but it’s a much later made in China one. When they arrive I’ll post a couple of pics.
