Shite in Miniature II

Short update from me today. Had a few minutes spare so I took a look through a box of stored die casts and came across this @Datsuncog sourced Corvair:

I harboured ideas to repaint it but honestly, I'm a sucker for some period cosmetic restyling. Won't hurt to get the windows cleaned at some point, though. But the lack of tyres is a clear issue.

Then I remembered the bag of grommets I'd bought a few months back, which I ended up not using.

As they are, they'd be ideal to re-shod a truck of some sort but with a flick of a knife, 2 of the grommets could be repurposed into a full set of boots for the Corvair.

Nowhere near perfect but literal pence to acquire and I quite like the big fat tyre wall as a result.

The effect will certainly fit the bill for my mock-up idea of creating a display of sorts.

I managed to fish an old tyre out of the BOAC bus, which has since provided the Vanguard with a full set. This was just a test to see how compact I can make a display (so I don't have the excuse of running out of space as the reason to stop buying die casts) but I'll need to assemble more materials before I'm ready to start the project.

And also complete numerous other half done/not even started jobs of actual importance.

Woke up early this morning and learnt of a car swap meet going on, so headed off solo, in the hope of finding a couple of bits for my Commodore.

No luck but I encountered a few excellent cars parked up:

This 504 wagon was absolutely stunning!

Anyway, I'm running out of image space on this post and this is about shite in miniature, so here's what £15 bagged me:

Quite happy with that! Sadly no Commodore bits but there never are. Nice consolation prizes, though.

Now to head home and share the great news* with Mrs_Jon.

All the ford stuff has gone now, sorry. I'll keep an eye out though, Entertainer are getting two deliveries a week now

Thanks. My entertainer had about a dozen crap ones on display the other day. But the time before had loads of good pickings!

Hey Diecast Dudes!

What's the craic with Models Of Yesteryear stuff? Got a load listed on eBay @£1.99, all without boxes unfortunately, they're not shifting.

Are they out of fashion, so I'd be better off stashing them away (not the preferred option tbh, I've got loads of stuff in the loft already), or am I being impatient....or is £1.99 too expensive? There's a link to one below, have a look at my other stuff, you might fancy something 😉

I think the earliest Matchbox Yesteryear series has its fans but the later ones lacked something and were also up against cheap competition from superficially similar offerings from the Far East.  There are therefore so many about that most people are trying to get rid of them rather than collect them.

Feeling thoroughly f***ed off with smol diecast after trawling around all the shops the last couple of weekends! Both Tescos both Asdas, several B&Ms, absolutely zip. Tesco had three MB  Rancheros on a peg this week, so they have obviously got a new case in, but that was it. Three Rancheros and three airport tugs. I only want the Merc estate and the MGB.

Aldi had two big bins, but as mentioned, all previous case stuff. Grabbed a Volvo estate though as I do want one to customise with  a gffer style colour scheme eventually.

Think I need to step back a bit as at the moment I'm minded to get all the Hot Wheels and Matchbox out off the loft and have a fire sale of the lot, apart from a few favourites.

Oh goodness!  I clean forgot about that!  Well... looks like I've saved it from being chopped up then.  Under no circumstances does this mean I no longer want it.  We must do some sort of deal so that it can be included in a parcel.

For those who CBA reading back, we are talking about a MB Rover SD1 here.  Today a smallish box arrived containing a load of bubblewrap and, er, a bronze SD1.  Thank you so much @bunglebus :)  Now I have to decide which example is more worn and therefore a better donor for its upper rear end...

I was mooching around The Range the other day as occasionally they have Hot Wheels. Didn't find any but did get a couple of cans of paint - sadly the green is nothing like the colour the cap suggests

Still, I've grown to like it, puts me in mind of an 80s custom RS. Not quite brave enough to mask and paint the boot spoiler yet...

Those old Yesteryears were for Grandads back in the '60s and '70s. They were made in there thousands so are not very rare. Grandads these days are more interested in post-war cars than pre-war stuff, so the amount of buyers/collectors is minimal. Mint and boxed most would struggle to get £5 each. Only rare colours get higher prices these days.

I'm calling foul - those look suspiciously like Scirocco wheels and T3 transporters are 5-bolt (5x112)

Same wheels as the Golf GiT (which should be on P-Slots or Tear Drops). These are mid 80's before MiniChamps came on the scene and changed what was expected detail wise.

Looks great, not a million miles away from Ford Nova Green of the period. (Always wanted to do a Matchbox Cortina the same as that one, appeared in at least two BBC programmes of the time.)

I remember seeing loads of *NO reg Fords on the TV. There were also some Works Rally cars with *NO reges.

Indeed. As you'll know, Corgi did a decent job on the Sweeney Cortinas,

Wish they'd do the Nova Green 549 too but I don't suppose Target or Law & Order are as fondly remembered by collectors as The Sweeney. Shame as I like the S-pack Cortinas...
