Well my tat Friday purchase finally  landed on the mat.

The wonderful bureaucracy that is Brexit intervened in its delivery, but it's here now and that is all that counts.

A big thank you to the intrepid tat hunter that is @Datsuncogfor purchasing and posting this wonderful piece of diecast to me.

Cor!!!

I'm chuffed to bits with this, apart from a few minor chips, this thing is in great shape, heavy too.

Poor old Helmut in his Siku Ford Taunus didn't like it though, his car failed the brake test,so the poor old sod is waiting on a taxi to take him home.

This has to be one of my favourite finds this year.

Delighted it showed up, finally!

It really is a beast of model - weighty doesn't come close.

I had a quick flick through my early 1980s Siku catalogues, but couldn't see it listed, or indeed anything with the Henschel tractor unit - so maybe a '70s release?

I was surprised, nay shocked, to find the original 'ADAC - Bremsen - Prüfung' signboards still inside the trailer. I'd suspect this was kept as a display model rather than a toy, and it's irritating to think that the paint damage was probably done recently...

It was lovely to make its acquaintance, and I'm glad you're enjoying it - even if it's spoilt Helmut's day...

Me too.having those was the icing on the cake really.

Yes,I'd agree with that, there is no way that would have survived in such good shape otherwise.

WANTED!

If you've looked at my Life of Shite thread (link below) then you will know I like to have models of my/my family's old cars.  You'll also have noticed, I'm sure, that where possible I'm trying to upgrade the collection from a motley assortment of sizes, to a fairly-consistent 1/43 scale.  To this end, I would like to put out an appeal here: I need some dirt-cheap old Vanguards to modify.  Specifically I need a couple of Ford 100E saloons and a mk2 Cortina.  They can be as playworn as you like as long as they have all their wheels, lights, bumpers.  Windows I'm not so bothered about as I can make sections as I need them.  Note that these cars are only available in two-door form: I want to see if I can satisfactorily convert them to four-door to match the cars I remember.  Paint doesn't matter at all as they will definitely be getting painted!

Welcome additional models would be: Vauxhall PA; Austin A40 Farina; Hillman Minx; a four-headlight mk3 Cortina; mk1 Granada.

I do realise that Vanguards in the sort of condition I require are thin on the ground, but if anybody is likely to know of any, then I would expect it to be a Shiter.  I will of course be suitably grateful.

What about this lot?  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195437468537

£15 for the four. I'm sure you could sell the Imp and Zephyr for a fiver a pop on here. I'd buy the Herald for a fiver as it's the same as my old one. Then you've got a free 100E in rough condition.

And we're not totally done with the market for the day, either...

Last week's deeply unsatisfying conclusion to Tat Friday - whereby I was waylaid by a wittering Grade 3 and got to spend my lunchtime breaking into a disused canteen in order to refill tea urns - had left me with an itch that just wouldn't go away.

A dark and stormy night hadn't yet morphed into a dark and stormy morning when I was woken by the crash of some window boxes being blown off the windowsill; after lying awake listening to the wind howling for a bit, I decided it was A Sign... and headed off into the tempest.

Heavy overnight rain causes floods in parts of Northern Ireland - BBC News

Flooded roads and broken branches provided extra fun*, but I arrived in a rain-drenched Belfast just before 8.

To find MOAR buses (not the same ones as last week, though), still at only a fiver - including some big 1/50 Corgi Classics amongst the OO gauge stuff...

498604676_IMG_20221028_0807212.thumb.jpg.7abb66a3a34bbecbcac3d03f06367bb6.jpg

Plus a small box of fairly knackered diecast, mostly Lesney and mostly from the 1960s, at £2 a throw.

Along with those weird egg-shaped vehicles, which seemed vaguely familiar.

S&D Refuse Wagons in both blue Husky and very early orange Corgi Juniors (with sticker ID) versions.

And a very smol Budgie tanker was unusual - reminiscent of a Bedford S-Type, a bit?

1504715076_IMG_20221028_0831492.thumb.jpg.021cdae46a20abe68362031495b89c8e.jpg

Some of the boxed stuff from last week was still kicking around, too:

480627674_IMG_20221028_0845292.thumb.jpg.18caf3aac60c81b8ec083f8dcfba8c5a.jpg

I couldn't help but notice The Nemesis handing over some cash for a plastic bag containing the MIB Dinky Submarine Chaser warship from last week, plus a lot of Lesney-sounding clinking from within...

I can only guess he got to the shoebox first.

Eventually, the box was emptied out onto the stall...

But there wasn't a lot to make me cough up my hard-earned.

Though I was intrigued by these boxes of utility-grade school chalk; discovered in the corner of a stockroom?

74382819_IMG_20221028_0827192.thumb.jpg.1bfbd1bc6e22a5beba0c4ff2dec6c250.jpg

I had a poke round the other stalls, but there wasn't much to interest me in terms of diecast.

I thought about getting some fancy meringues from one stall, but the stallholder was nowhere to be seen and, after watching the flies crawling all over everything for a few minutes, I sorta lost my appetite...

I did pick up a couple of things that had been requested by PM - but I'll leave those for the new keepers to post up, should they choose to do so!

Oh, and something for myself, kinda...

There was a slightly less trashed Lincoln Continental in the shoebox, which I snaffled...

909829940_IMG_20221028_1624592.thumb.jpg.9a8ad8ccd61f58bdc0164caf8dac3477.jpg

But it was only when I had it secured in my pocket that I remembered that I already had one, in broadly similar condition.

Following on from the discussion on Woosh-N-Push shade variations the other week, it seems the new arrival is slightly darker than my longer-term example.

Or maybe it just needs a clean.

Either way, I probably now need another two...

You know what, that's not a bad idea.  If I go ahead, you're at the head of the queue for the Herald.  I'd probably end up keeping the Zeph but the Imp could be rehomed as I already have that one in MIB spec.

That looks tremendous. It's great that these things which could easily end up in the hands of someone careless, start new lives as cherished pieces in someone's collection.

What does Smol Eddie think?

A month or two ago I happened to gather all my versions of the Conti together with a half baked idea about discussing colours. I never did anything about it but all four were sitting there just needing me to take some pics

Hi everyone, I'm back home!

After 6 weeks of travelling about the UK (and returning my brother's car to him with around 100 miles left on the agreed miles policy) and meeting/dealing with many shiters on here, I can now give you a brief update of my wares that have flown across the globe with me:

20221029_084400.thumb.jpg.582be71aea8fffe664d1dd9f9a9ba120.jpg

First up, a couple of tempting AMT models, procured from @eddyramrod from a meet-up at Lakeland Motor Museum. I'd previously tried to make a slightly earlier Impala but cocked up the spray job, so there's unfinished business here. Some day in the distant future...

20221029_084244.thumb.jpg.ceec44f5ac55cbfcd297c9f63d675fe9.jpg

Then a small selection of smalls - artistically representing their new home down under and nothing to do with the fact that this image is upside down for some unfathomable reason.

But here's the main event:

20221029_083417.thumb.jpg.33e30817e1f6a79ed662de4db38f128c.jpg

Many further updates to come but check this lot out - didn't I do well! Some of these are the pickings of direct trades from @bunglebus, @andrew e, @eddyramrod and @sierraman and the rest was bought from two excellent car boot sales in York.

I also met up with @Split_Pin and @AndyW201, to drop off wares from NZ (and in one case, return to pick up items I'd left behind!), so a very, very successful mini shite adventure.

The best bit though is that barring swaps, the purchase of everything above was bankrolled by the sale of these:

Screenshot_20221029-084851_Gallery.jpg.3bf5e90a741199a0281000fed9b2a52f.jpg

Of which I'll be ever thankful for the services of @AndyW201, who dealt with the sale of the Fiesta and 205 on Ebay, for a nice fat profit. Indeed, I've still got diecast spending money left over!

And if anyone's wondering, we had 1.9kg and 1kg left in our baggage allowances, not helped also by our equally rich haul of charity shop/boot sale Hornsea pottery...

And finally, as requested, here's a quick shot of the former @sierraman's Neue Klasse BMW in its new home.

20221029_083755.thumb.jpg.dfd1c5c50bb3caa7dfb376b961e5e4af.jpg

I've got so, so much gardening to do....
