The early versions of that High Speed Golf do indeed say "VW" and "Golf" but were altered, presumably for copyright reasons - there's a dim bulb lighting up in the depths of my mind saying there was some cereal box type giveaway/promo involved

Here's a better version of the Celica:

1:20 Tamiya Toyota Celica LB Turbo Gr.5 kit

It seems to have been quite popular, with various toy/modelmakers giving it a go. As well as the 1:20 kit above Tamiya also did a 1:24 version, which has a little battery motor - I recently put mine back together (but haven't zoomed it across the kitchen floor with the motor).

I decided the best thing to do was to take it apart so I could give it a thorough clean at the same time.

The steering wheel was detached as per most 1/24 BBuragos rhat don't have a steering function however it was on the back parcel shelf.

Reattached.

I gave everything a good clean with a tiny screwdriver sheathed in an antibacterial wipe.

It looks great now.

I always loved taking my Bburago models apart. The screws were such good quality that it practically demanded it... That looks like a very satisfying way to spend a Friday afternoon.

And it's a lovely model, that!

You could get it as a 1/10-1/12 RC too.

I keep thinking about this - I know not all manufacturers will follow the same processes, but in my mind tampos are applied to the bare, painted body before assembly. I don't see why you'd have to do it that way, just always had it in my mind that was how it's done.

Very interesting piece, let me know if you decide to move it on

Said I was probably going to fall off the wagon soon but didn't expect it to be in the shape of these. Guy at the car boot this morning had a stall full of Tomica and I couldn't resist grabbing a couple of their Premium line. Have to say I'm more impressed with the Skyline than I am the Civic but they're both incredibly detailed for a Matchbox sized car. Was also tempted by a couple of Polistil models, but at £30 a pop I kept my wallet in my pocket.

HW purchases:

IMG_2705.thumb.JPG.51c21e2bbe84fd61cce81698559ac74a.JPG

Probably already got a GT-R or two, but couldn't remember this one. Good to find the Volvo.

IMG_2724.thumb.JPG.e0013591802d756867c0660dc99d9269.JPG

Finally managed to get to the local charity shop when it was open, Mrs SL treated me to these as I've been a helpful boy recently. Not sure if the locomotive and coach are on my MIB collection list, but they weren't expensive and if I was so minded I could always add the flat cars from my Container Port playset. The inter-city mini-bus was only £1. Capri was a bit more, but tidy enough and with intact glass. Thinking that one day I might do an @bunglebus style improvement exercise on it with period correct paint, lowered to a more sensible height on slot mag-esque wheels.

Nothing new mind - just another case of the same models as the last lot.

More Kadett GTEs and Land Rover S2s, though - just in case anyone needs any more of them.

Can I be cheeky and take the 2 Kadettes? They are proving to be difficult to find for me

I'd leave the paint as-is and fit a set of Hot Wheels slot mags - available in chrome, white, gold and black as well as two sizes, easy to lower that era Matchbox by bending the plastic suspension up

That Capri looks really tidy, if probably be inclined to mod a battered one. That said I always end up buying a battered one and consider it too good to mod...

So today I went to the Swapmeet at Doncaster, quite impressive, they have something for everyone. Needless to say there were plenty of 50p bins for me to rummage through headfirst.

Picked this up, AHC models of Holland but curiously made in Spain. Anyone heard of them?

The Spanish company Pilen were bought by AHC so it's probably one of Pilen's older castings. AHC- Pilen are probably best known among collectors of mini shitey stuff for their Astramax and Volvo 440 and 480 models.

Spurred on by Fridays diecast tat bulk purchase and the above posts, it reminded me of my local Swapmeet in Falkirk. What I got from Jon on Friday was the same range that I'd usually come home with from  a Swapmeet, although I'd not always buy that many at once.

I knew that Covid had stopped the Swapmeet in March 2020 but on checking the organiser's website today (McLaren Models) they had a notice up that they had hung up their hats permanently and the Falkirk Swapmeet was unfortunately never coming back.

They had a shop on Grahams Road in Falkirk for decades, indeed it was where I got my first proper 'model' cars after my mum found their premises in the late 1980s. They moved to a larger unit across the road in the early 2000s although they kept their smaller shop for a few more years which sold older and obsolete items. I bought many boxed 1970s Solidos from there at the time.  Around 2018 they closed the shop for good as the business was now going to be solely online. The proprietors were also getting older and although they had sons who were usually helping out, I think it was all getting too much for them.

Their website also doesn't look like it has been updated since 2019 and some of the links are broken.

I don't think they could ever compete with ebay and Amazon and the items they sold could always be found cheaper online. They also took literally years to get orders in, when the same item was instantly available in ebay.  But while that's an easy argument to win,  going looking for something you want and finding it easily online is nothing compared to turning up at a Swapmeet and the thrill of finding an old model you hadn't expected to see or didn't even know existed.

That's why I get the majority of my diecast from here now as there's still that element of surprise.

The prices in fairness weren’t that bad. Picked up a Guy Warrior Transporter, tatty but all there for £2. Fortunately my habits are quite cheap so I was looking at the bottom end of the market.

Did also pick this dead Grain Hauler in the 50p Box, only because it had a full set of tyres fitted to use on my £2.50 early DAF Transporter. So for £3 in I have something that albeit not perfect would be thick end of a tenner on eBay.
