Some of my early 80s Ertl. My brother and I both had an identical van at Christmas time but, unusually, I've got absolutely no idea where it ended up. I bought the van complete with spinny BA in the front a few years back to make up for it and sourced the figures in a large haul. I've since sold a Murdock!

A kid on our street had the big A Team Van, I was always wished he’d get fed up and sell it me. I look at the toys my kids have played with and they’re shite in many ways compared to the 80’s toys I had. Everything was just better then...🤣

Agreed! Ertl large tinplate stuff was amazing to eight year old me  - I loved the Dukes and A Team, so owning my own chunky metal versions was the ultimate really.

I find everything from 50p tubs to how much? At toy fairs. Worth a look I reckon.

Had a mooch around some charity shops, found there two Hot Wheels with blackwalls but obviously modern versions, possibly from a set

There should have also been the 1303 shape Beetle and Citroen DS from Galanite (that I don't collect) but despite showing as delivered are AWOL

Had a surprise birthday party for the Mrs today, just tidying up and found a slightly soggy parcel in the garden rubbish pile

Obviously it was a GS Rather than a DS, the 1303S was my main target. Postman is usually very good so I take it this happened on his day off.

Other deliveries made it into the house unscathed, first of all a Dinky Alfa in better shape than my current version

And then a couple of still-boxed beauties, a Mazda B1600 in a slightly worn box

Going to have such fun applying the stickers

Had a mail call with a difference today. In that it was our very own @Jon doing the delivering. A pleasure to meet and a gent to do business with!

Bit of a Vanguards Holy Grail this one as it's one I've been after for years. The Mk1 Fiesta was covered pretty well in period, especially by the European manufacturers. Recently though, there has only really been the Minichamps XR2 (rare and expensive obvs), the casting by Revell/Corgi Detail Cars, (including a rather nice Signal yellow 1300S and a couple of nice rally versions) which was  later marketed by Solido (curiously with the wider arches of the rally version) as a green 1300 Ghia for the Century of Cars partwork. Most common though is probably the version by Corgi Vanguards, which has come in  quite a few varieties from a Nordic blue 1100L, through the fancier Festival and Sandpiper special editions to four XR2s and three Supersports, with a police version also in there.

The black Supersport version for me represents a car that was my biggest "The one that got away". In the early 1990s, when I was doing a YTS at a Reg Vardy Rover dealership, the sales staff and mechanics always got to look over the cheap non-retailable part exes and got first refusal before they went to auction. One day in came a very tidy Supersport in black. The young mechanic who was mentoring me at the time, a Ford fanatic, looked it over and pronounced it sound, just needing a quick service and probably the brake pads and shoes doing. Price was what Vardy's gave for it- £500, cheap for a Supersport even then. Sadly it came to nowt as I was still learning to drive and had nowhere secure to keep it. In truth, left on the streets of Middlesbrough back then, it wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes. So sadly EBB 248W went to auction. I eventually got a MK2 1.4 S about 18 months later, but the hurt remained...

Anyway, to the model...

So, for those who don't know, the Supersport was a special edition based on the 1300S, with a few extras from Ford's X-pack programme thrown at it, such as the front chin spoiler, wheelarch extensions, rear spoiler and 6JX13 " 4 spoke alloy wheels, with a special check patterned interior and lairy side graphics.

Corgi captured the Fiesta very nicely. They even did two versions of the shell, with sunroof and without for the Povo-spec versions. Obviously this one comes with! It also has all the right bits like the front driving lights, the body kit bits and the correct flat face Fiesta alloys. The twin colours of the graphics are nicely defined.

Nice number plate font, sadly a bit on the wonk on this one!

IMG_20220925_164623.thumb.jpg.7a73d576ffdf363b736b81b0b5fc3d8a.jpg

Again, great plate and spot on badging. It even has the small bulge in the rear valance needed to accommodate the 13" spare wheel on the sporty models, along with the add-on reverse and fog light. (Though someone at the factory has put the fog light on at a bit of a jaunty angle). Correct type exhaust too, Corgi took the time to model both this type of exhaust and the big-bore type for the XR2.

IMG_20220925_170241.thumb.jpg.ee5759b2ab87b1270db3a3ab2b4ab00c.jpg

Being a black interior, everything looks a bit sparse, but it's all there. it's a shame that back in 2012 when this was made, Corgi weren't doing the detailed seat patterns that they do for their models now. This would have looked fab with the red tartan seat pattern of the real thing.

IMG_20220925_170630.thumb.jpg.081e5f31713ee73c5defb9f3f4199edd.jpg

But I'm glad to finally get a black Supersport after all these years. It's the most I've paid to date for a Vanguards model but still  less half of what people are asking for them on eBay, so it's all good!

Also thrown in with the Vanguards was a Mk1 Fiesta model from the other end of the timeline, the lovely Guiloy version,

It's a lovely little example, full of period charm, that's survived in great condition. The stickers are still bright and vibrant and not peeling off.

Some great period detailing, like the cast in badging in exactly the right font.

Never used to see much in the way of Guiloy stuff on my family holidays to Spain, it was always Joal or Guisval, but I d have been chuffed to have got this back in the early '80s!
