That's very nice. I really like the little dioramas that each of those Bond partworks is presented in, but it's a shame that the cars vary quite dramatically in merit. I've got the View To A Kill Renault 11 (there are two versions...  I've got the one that isn't in half), and it's absolutely superb. I've also got the Audi 200 from The Living Daylights, and while it's nice enough, its proportions are sadly miles off.

My Uncle Robert had one of these in a darker shade of green in the early 1980s. I was just old enough to remember it. He sold it because, I quote "It went into big holes".

To be fair, the base represents pretty much all there was under these. We had E817PMS, a 127 Fiorino work van in the mid 1990s and the underside is pretty much 2 flat floorpans and an exhaust. By 1995 it still had no rust at all but the engine and indeed the replacement, knocked badly. I still have the grille from the donor car in my loft.

Christ this is really weird. I have an uncle Robert as well. But he had a Renner 25 and a 21, serial Renault botherer

The Mira Seat 128 3P arrived early today, its a very nice wee thing. I'm right pleased with it.

Theres a story why I've wanted to find a contemporary model of a 128 3P. Way back in the mid 1990s there used to be a light green example, OFS 77P that parked in front of a house on the canal which I used to walk past every day. By then the door bottoms were beginning to rust but in 1995, all the rust disappeared and it appeared to have had quite a thorough restoration. It was still in daily use at that point too.

Some while later it disappeared and the last I heard of it was from @fiatdaft that it was on a barn near Whitecross, the next town from Linlithgow where I used to live. That was about 13 or 14 years ago and I have  no idea where it is now, but it's still on SORN somewhere!

This BMW 3 series coupe was an impulse buy the other weekend (with the M3 coupe) and cost a rather reasonable £20 too. Its a 1/18th BMW dealer model made by Kyosho and is just delightful! The more you look the more you spot, like electric seat switches for instance, or the glazed frameless doors. I think it’s a pukka BMW colour too, paint finish is excellent.

As you’d expect in a toy car it has carpet, and even better boot carpet 😳 Note the warning triangle too!

Under the bonnet is just as fine, down to the tool kit, I’m kinda regretting not buying the other one he had now which was a Z8, but the paint had blistered oddly. So in conclusion if you spot one cheaply jump in it, even if you don’t like BMW’s 👍

I was planning on doing a big load of nothing this weekend, but I mentioned the toy fair was on and it was suggested I went, quite possibly just to get me out from under her feet!

There's a distinct lack of 50p rummage boxes lately, several £1 ones though.

Still, I found a few things I was willing to pay that for. This is the oddest - a plastic Scirocco

What's that saying about repenting at leisure? Snapped up this Setra coach thinking the colour was unusual

That's because it's a repaint - also has the rivet in a very strange place making resto harder

You have an eye for the unusual Rich, that plastic Scirrocco and Tonka TR7 are ace. I haven't seen the Setra Coach either, really nice.

Thank you - I think I just have so much now that the unusual stands out. Setra coach doesn't turn up too often but it's a pleasing little thing

Some late case Hot Wheels in Poundland. Filled a couple of gaps, (50p less than Morrisons too...)

Unfortunately, I got a text from the Mrs to say a fault warning has appeared on the Corsa on her way to work saying 'airbag service'. A quick scoot on the Corsa E forum reveals that this innocent looking message means "a probable expensive airbag module failure followed by removal of several hundred pounds by the local Vauxhall dealer". So this might be it for diecast purchasing for a while!

AVAS indeed...

I bought this purely because it's branded both Zee and MC Toys. The quality* is evident throughout

And I finally got the Mira Turbo Fury repaired with the fans from a Matchbox.  I'd love to know if this and the Stretcha Fetcha/Mod Tractor were some official tie in with Lesney or if they just ripped them off

Also got this in the post, think I posted it up on the eBay thread but decided to bid on it.

I've seen a lot of these James Bond partwork cars and they do look quite good, but never bothered to get any until I saw this GP buggy.

Also got to try out the set of triangular bits @Datsuncogsent me ages ago to get it off the base!

Today's object of adoration, plucked at random from beneath the bed...

1696126494_IMG_20220912_1449562.thumb.jpg.206280b6a410d4784bde5114f328b0d2.jpg

A fairly tired-looking Corgi #490 Volkswagen Type 2 breakdown truck, in Gift Set colours.

679960630_IMG_20220912_1450112.thumb.jpg.3ac42483945ea26e48bbe230940ff887.jpg

Corgi had already produced a fair few variants on the Type 2, starting with the basic van and microbus versions in December 1962 (#433 and #434, respectively):

516512965_IMG_20220912_1648022.thumb.jpg.95e69b17554760752d86ac1737157f2d.jpg

This was followed by a modified Toblerone panel van - featuring the first appearance of Trans-o-lite headlamps - appearing only a short while later in February 1963 (#441):

1135004342_IMG_20220912_1648202.thumb.jpg.076f1030e40024fda5cd8ff846b831ab.jpg

...and the following year, a covered bed pickup version arrived with drop-down rear flap in March 1964 (#431):

771487203_IMG_20220912_1648472.thumb.jpg.ff3067adb27839fcda67db6d0097344b.jpg

As far as I'm aware, these versions all used the same front end.

168617796_IMG_20220912_1450212.thumb.jpg.9dae8ca5d1de18a824234c6f6b848203.jpg

This last casting was then modified for August 1966 to add a working rear winch and high-level towbar in place of the tailgate, plus a moulded tool box with a hinged lid and plated tools inside, and sold as part of the Gift Set 37, along with two Lotus Elans, a Lotus Climax and a trailer:

1044816928_IMG_20220912_1703082.thumb.jpg.90bf15717e78cf1e338e5569968ab193.jpg

The base seems to have been modified at this point, with the words 'Pick Up Truck' now erased:415810846_IMG_20220912_1450332.thumb.jpg.f7ee1411fb97f8e831ab496e6a2df326.jpg

Four months later, just before Christmas, the VW breakdown truck became available as a standalone model (#490), though seems to have originally been painted in a yellow colour without any stickers - possibly using up some unused painted shells from the previous #431 Pickup?

2117005528_IMG_20220912_1644472.thumb.jpg.101226522d79637d86601f7bb6cbbc99.jpg

I assume this changed soon to white with a 'Breakdown' sticker on the doors, similar to the box illustration. I think this is the version I have.

The white Gift Set version, identified by the Corgi logo and 'Racing Club' on a blue or white sticker, later appeared as part of the cheaper Gift Set 6 in October 1967 (paired with a Cooper-Maserati single-seat racer, and a reworked wider trailer), before finishing in the Gift Set 12 of 1970, expanding Gift Set 6 to add a reworked Lotus Climax and the newish Porsche Carrera 6, plus a gaggle of mechanic figures, bales and cones.

210856042_IMG_20220912_1608492.thumb.jpg.45abf299ae43703cbe0b6ea2f8965d17.jpg

This set was kept on sale until 1971, with the basic #490 remaining on the order catalogue until 1972.

All in all, Corgi made over a million VW Breakdown Trucks over a six year period, and I can see why - they offered a lot of play value. My example has had a rough time of it - not only are the tyres cracked and partially broken, but the tool box is missing its outer case and the winding mechanism and hook are long gone.

1750960259_IMG_20220912_1450422.thumb.jpg.f211ff20325149b6c82db0b8011ae213.jpg

I'm sure replacement parts can be sourced, but beyond swapping the tyres I'm not all that fussed about taking the whole thing apart to reinstate the tyre/ thumbwheel which should sit on the rear winding drum.

198402229_IMG_20220912_1450512.thumb.jpg.bd90815c97a46f4167533023389ffbba.jpg

It's just nice enough to display, so I'll probably just keep it like this.
