Shite in Miniature II

I made an ass of u and me, I assumed that because the Police decals were stickers, the others were too - they're waterslides.

Dinky 250 Austin Mini Cooper police car done. Only new parts are the jewel headlights and decals, the aerial isn't quite right but was a convenient bit of sprue that was in the spares box. Paint was fun because all modern cars use very bright whites, but Halfords still stock a 70s VW colour because Halfords

Like Noel Edmonds, it has a crinkly bottom but I'll smooth the decal out one it's dried more

A great way of making a realistic and robust to- scale-thickness aerial is to take a piece of reasonably thick sprue and carefully warm it over a tealight. About 2 cm above the tip of the flame is ideal. When it starts to sag, gently stretch it.  Once you get it right it will stretch as long as you want. I made some really tall ones for my1/24 police Range Rover and they even wobble and sway if the bedroom window is open.

I had the sudden urge to buy this Matchbox Oldsmobile Aerotech on ebay, probably one of my favorite concept cars of the time.

Postage was more than I paid for the car. Seems to be in really neat condition, the box was opened in the back leaving a flap so probably collector owned. The rear clamshell opens to reveal the Quad4 engine found in many GM products of the time.

I do see them but usually squashed beyond repair. Every now and again I idly consider buying every Lonesome Onesome (©️ @Datsuncog) just to see how many I can get - I must see one every week

I’ve a couple of them mainly the green, red, red with day glo windows and the later brown one. The green one was my favourite as a kid.

Went to the local flea market today. Nothing to compare with the delights of Tat Friday and the usual model seller wasn't there but a few other mixed tat stalls had some toys/models. If you like Lledo Days Gone (but who does?) there was an infestation of them on every stall, attracting precisely zero interest at £2 a go. I did pick up a couple of the old Lledo Cargo Kings Volvo trucks, crude as they come but exact OO scale and can be worked up into something very decent, and an Atlas Stobart Scania. The seller of the latter amused me, going on about how it was in great condition when it wasn't really, being stuffed loosely in the box without the plinth and having the mirrors and trailer tailboard missing. I just humoured him as for a fiver it's cheap conversion fodder and won't stay in Unsteady Eddie colours.

Who buys those Dayz Gone By at markets and car boots. I’ve seen people come back week after week trying to sell them unsuccessfully, after having investing in the Lledo pyramid scheme.

Giffers. A giffer dies, his family sells them to another giffer who assimilates them into his own collection, then he dies and the cycle continues. Nobody else cares.

You hardly ever see those Cortinas now at car boots. That said I haven’t been car booting for a while now, just too much work on plus I need to have a clear out, I’ve got way too much stuff, should send the wife to do a car boot with it all.

Think that one's from the pony trailer set or possibly twin wheel caravan set, can't remember off hand.

I never had any of the Tincorners as a kid, despite my dad having a 1600E and a 2.0S MK4. Still haven't got the glow windows version, but I think this is one of the castings that escaped to Bulgaria so is available in a billion colours now

Stripped the Lone Star Fiat 2300 down, thought the casting detail might be appreciated. I love how much effort toy makers went to back then, trying to capture all the features of the real thing in such a small scale20220827_171037.thumb.jpg.a3fd1a7f3195e4ab7f4e840590822692.jpg20220827_171024.thumb.jpg.584660243688854bdc8d4f38a3fd92d7.jpg20220827_171047.thumb.jpg.9ebb00bf80d989646848e975350283f5.jpg20220827_171255.thumb.jpg.a6348d4ff3a1046a2dc895bfd85a8b3f.jpg

If you're not too fussed on realism, Corgi and Siku each made one.

Did Corgi do an S124? Can't recall ever seeing one.

Theres a Minichamps S124 in Nautic blue (wrong colour interior though) on eBay currently, sadly at the usual eBay piss-take price,

Yup, in Juniors format - 300TD rather than TE, but looks to be a reasonable stab at an S124 wagon.

I've had these two from new - hence my cack-handed 'detailing' of the indicators etc using a Matchbox Graffic Traffic pen c.1990...

Crilkey, that's a new one on me! Another one to hunt down, I quite fancy the beige taxi version for a bit of tampo removing. Problem being any Corgi Junior or 1/64 Matchbox I fancy are always stupid money. Mainly why I still don't have a Matchbox Cavalier yet...

They didn't have any Minis.

There weren't many Matchbox, got these Super GTs, and one raises a question - they were sold as BR15/16 or whatever rather than under the name of the casting, but the Datsun 126X has DATSUN on the roof. Was this the only one that had anything on it referring to the original model?
