Lord Sterling
Today I popped to Cora, the Belgian equivalent of Tesco/Sainsburys etc... Cora always seem to have an excellent choice of smol diecast cars. Yeah right.... These Matchboxes were about 9.99 € each, a little out of my budget. Heck! They even have 1/18 cars 😳 Uh oh: Purchases were made blowing a lot of my reserve money: Excuse the bad light and half-eaten Belgian waffle 😋 Couple of late purchases: Whilst in the store, I noticed that someone had taken a but of a liberty with one of the matchboxes: What you should be able to see are staples on the box and a non-Matchbox car, so someone has gone to some trouble to replace a car and re-staple the box. Wow, there's a Twingo Discord! Nice. There was only 1 more there, again with a slightly damaged box. I'll need to check into Cora near my Dad's to check if there are anymore. barrett
Just got a new phone so currently trying to understand why they make it so difficult to just make everything *work*. It also supposedly has a decent camera, so let's see how things look in snappy-snap mode with a couple of new purchases. The first was semi-accidental. It Put a half-assed bid in and it sold for my maximum, which was mroe than I really should have paid for it, but I figured I'd probably never see another one... It's Mercury No.13 Alfa Romeo 1900 berlina These early Mercurys were not scaled to 1:43, I think perhaps 1:48 or something? They're pretty basic - it's an Italian Corgi, really. I have a couple of the recent partwork reissues, and it sits very nicely with the Giulietta Sprint The second purchase was quite deliberate. Mebetoys A20 Lamborghini Miura Not sure about those shutlines! Rest of it is very nice though It's unsurprising the Miura was modelled by virtually every company at one point, given that it was probably the most exciting production car in the world on its launch and for several years after. This is definitely one of the better efforts but I think just pipped by the Politoys (which has even more opening features) and, strangley, the Solido, which has a better interior. Still, no complaints with this one (aside from the boring colour, but that's probably why it was cheap-ish). The engine detail is great, there's a spare wheel under the front and despite its size it feels weighty and solid. Not much underneath sadly. New camera verdict: fine. Old toy cars verdict: WTF is wrong with me? AndyW201, Cookiesouwest, morrisoxide and 9 others
sierraman
It just goes to show what contempt Mattel have for the U.K. market when you see what a selection they get in France. Lord Sterling and bunglebus

That Sierra cossy on the top is a rare sight, in the uk it would have long gone, but at 9.99€ I’m not surprised it’s still there! used to love getting 1/18 stuff from supermarkets abroad. bunglebus
I've been messing with this, Hot Wheels Speed Bump. I get that it's supposed to be a car crushed by a monster truck but I thought I could make it look a bit more realistic Quite good "damage" on the casting Needed the windows opening up and a couple of shades of beige applying To end up with this It's based on a casting that's supposedly an 84 Olds 442 like this, so the colour is incorrect but the beige looks more shite correct I'd like to track down the other three in the series but they're not available other than with a monster truck, other than this one that was in a 5 pack. The station wagon and van especially are appealing AndyW201, Split_Pin, Dick Longbridge and 14 others 15

I've never knowingly seen any of those Gran Toros in the flesh. I prefer the more realistic wheels on my Miura, but I like the addition of wing mirrors. Datsuncog
Oh, man... Yes, after extensive experimentation with a Record bench vice and lump hammer during the summer of 1985, I can confirm that it's quite difficult to replicate convincing crash damage on Matchbox, Corgi, Majorette, Hot Wheels, Siku, Guisval or indeed no-name 50p shop diecast. I'm still fairly horrified at how many decent models I sacrificed in my attempt to build a 'toy scrapyard', but I guess I wasn't alone... sierraman
Anecdotally I found the front would never deform convincingly enough unless the windscreen pillars broke this simulating a fairly destructive head on crash. I never broke my own stuff but a kid on our street habitually broke his toys, I never understood why, so I used to pick up the remnants as spares once he’d ‘had his enjoyment’ from them. Happily @Datsuncog many of yours now reside in Sierramans scrapyard! Datsuncog and Split_Pin

egg
I bought this 1:25 Schabak last year from Faz's diecast when they were half price. Sadly it had some imperfections, look a the driver's side a post and minor paint damage. They are about £15 on ebay, so for sale here given those issues, for £8 posted in UK. Obviously boxed. sierraman, Tenmil Socket, Datsuncog and 3 others
