I haven't seen that one. Quite faithful to the original?

Yes but metallic green which in fairness looks better, keep an eye out on Poundtoy as they frequently have BOGOF on Matchbox, I’m looking through, quite fancy the Real Workin Rigs sliding bed truck and the GM pick up.

I was curious to see what similarity there was (or wasn't) between them

Y'know, sometimes I can't see the woods for the trees. Despite being completely mad on Beetles since a very young age, and having the Dragon Wheels and Volks-Dragon as childhood toys, and now of course having owned multiple copies of all four castings, that's the first time seeing that the castings have any similarities. The Dragon Wheels and Flying Bug I'm most surprised by as they're so far removed from a stock Beetle, but now you point it out, it's obvious!

Good idea on making a custom out of the Flying Bug, I have four or five dead ones in the spares box and it worked well on the Mini Ha Ha

Matchbox Mini Ha Ha custom

I know I've mentioned it before, but it also took me far too long to clock that this Husky

Became this Corgi

I've been pondering this one over the last few days and thought I'd dig out my Superfast version for a little compare and contrast exercise:

Box art shows an even lairier green, fortunately the actual metallic colour is a little more subdued. I imagine there must be an earlier Superfast box style as it was in the range from the outset, but this is what I ended up with.

IMG_0028.thumb.JPG.e4c3d4c6637b571bf73a1bdb7db08356.JPG

I think this one suffers due to the higher stance more so than opened-up arches (the latter being very slight, perhaps only on the rear?). Also the sporty wheels don't really go with the Continental's styling, as at 1:1 they look better on steels with full covers. Despite having sprung suspension it's not as effective as on others, being a little too firm to satisfyingly 'boing' off the desktop. Whizzes across it nicely though - musn't lat it do a Thelma and Louise onto the tiled floor though.....

IMG_0023.thumb.JPG.b5faf48fae6fd7d88058f8730d709ee4.JPG

Similar casting lines evident. Front arch doesn't seem to have changed, but the rear gets closer to lining through with the top of the back bumper.

My base also still shiny. No slots at the axle ends.

IMG_0026.thumb.JPG.b8c14f181eb0094be9d3769221773528.JPG

Boot large enough for 1:64-ish golf clubs, dead bodies or WHY. Tragically unpainted and no bonus items as per Majorette.

Had meant to come back and say thanks for the pics and write-up on the early Superfast version of the #31 Lincoln - that's a lovely example!

Comparing your pics with my regular wheels version, I think the body casting has been untouched - just the changed base to accommodate the higher ride height.

The depth between the top of the arches and the top of the horizontal panels looks pretty similar, and the arch lips have the same profile.

My previous experience of a Superfast Continental was an even later version, which had the body rather artlessly hacked about to accommodate the wider speed wheels, right up to the casting lines...

Yeah. Not good. Not good at all.

I think your version may be the most appealing!

this would look great with a custom paint job.. pre lowered!!

Indeed, I reckon the RW stance is better than either of the Superfast. I didn't realise how terrible a job they'd done with the arches on the wide-wheel version!

A set of those smooth-centred wheels as fitted to the current LS400 or Civic might suit it well if they could be persuaded to fit under the arches?

Corgi Polo I was trying to ID turned up - not quite sure why they did this slightly altered version with chin spoiler

Still kicking myself over an older 10 pack with a nice Mini in it, thinking it would come out as an individual car. It didn't

Think I'd better find a spare - any suggestions on colour?

Flat black with scallop flame job and pinstripe art on boot...

or pearl white with the Lace detail paint on the roof

I have that one. Not in the box though, those Models if Yesteryear seem about as desirable as a bout of syphilis. I quite like the seventies ones in the garish unlikely colour schemes like a metallic pink Hispano Souza or something equally mad.

When you find those old Models of Yesteryear now they almost invariably smell of fags, I have this picture in my head they’ll have sat on the Formica sideboard as some old guy will have been bought it in 1977 and sat for many an evening smoking beside it waiting to crystallise his investment in the burgeoning collectors item market. It’s weird how I like these but find ‘Days Gone By’ intolerable.

DGB was basically the same casting with what ever livery they could get permission or paid to use. The castings were not very accurate either. Made to the cheapest level possible. They are like crystal figurines of the die cast world.

The MoYs do seem to have much more charm to them than DGs - could be the better cast-in detailing, or maybe just the slightly larger scale that lifts them? Or the batshit 70s colour schemes?

It's weird in a way though, as I understand Jack Odell was behind both ranges.

But you're right about the fag ash everywhere, they always feel really gritty to the touch!

The original Corgi Classics are really nice too. Even though they used a fair amount of plastic, the detail remains excellent. I think we had a CC Rolls Royce Silver Ghost upthread a short while ago?

Yes it's another carded Neet Streeter, in the solid red rather than the very similar looking metallic on the one I found last year:

Hot Wheels Neet Streeter

I showed you this Dinky Land Rover a couple of Sundays ago

2022-06-24_04-14-50.thumb.jpg.2d0ec7d76d5fa796fb33cc614c355cf2.jpg2022-06-24_04-14-54.thumb.jpg.caccd91721c28c9754954346208357c1.jpg

Now whilst I have a lot of respect for Land Rovers, they're not entirely my thing - couldn't resist it for a pound or two though, and I thought with a lick of paint I might actually be able to sell it on. Well of course it's never that easy, I had problems with paint reacting in the bed and also had some peel off removing the masking - same colour and same problem as the Gus's Gulper so I suspect it's a problem with this tin of paint

2022-06-24_04-26-05.thumb.jpg.5ef3a6005bdaefbc5fd3cbc44198a27a.jpg

Still, it looks alright now. Googling pics of this model shows some with silver in the bed and some with white. Not sure if I made the right choice...
