I got those five for £9 without haggling so perhaps I should have picked them up. Lazy bones boot sale was similarly empty, found a 3 for £1 table that netted me a Hot Wheels Turismo Also this Majorette F40 which was probably quite an expensive toy new Only other interesting things were an unused can of VW spray paint and a 1980 car spotters guide I left the huge spanners behind andrew e, AndyW201, Datsuncog and 2 others
AndyW201
Nipped to local Asda. As expected, not a single Majorette to be found. At first, the Hot Wheels rummage bin showed little promise, being all B case stuff. But a rummage brought up these more recent ones, I had given up all hope of getting one of these. So far, that's all of the colourways I've managed to get of this casting. Love the front and rear detail on it, nice little nod to Ryu on the rear quarters too. Not seen this on any of the previews, but I do like the Mooneyes stuff. Wish they'd do this casting in non OLLI spec. A Classic in the 'factory fresh' collection would be nice. While EVs aren't quite my thing, and modern Audi's on this forum go down like a mug of cold piss, I quite like this one. Again, detailing is good. Morrisons also turned up a few, Love these little Hondas. Just wish I still had my green Xylmex version I had as a kid, to compare. Another EV. I though this was a generic fantasy casting, but it appears the Lucid Air is actually a thing. Not unattractive for a big leccy luxobarge, and the Hot Wheels is a nice miniature version. This not buying Hot Wheels thing is going well! andrew e, Tenmil Socket, Datsuncog and 2 others 4

Yup, the Renault 5 Turbo, original mid-engine stylee. This is another one of those models that punches well above its weight when it comes to accuracy, quality and attention to detail for the money. Especially if you snagged it on eBay for £suprisinglylittle. l always liked the 5 Turbo for its sheer unlikeliness. Pert little wobbly French economy voiture suddenly sprouts enormous, American football shoulders and gets infused with 100 extra horsepower. Madness. This model is labelled as a Revell, but it's been marketed under a variety of names over the years, including Universal Hobbies and, I think, Solido. The only thing I can really criticise this casting for is that the radiuses are a bit on the chunky side. I'm talking about the door shuts and the corners of the opening panels (of which there are four). Basically, if this was scaled up to life size, the body panels would be wrought from half-inch steel. If this were an AutoArt release, those grilles would probably be perforated, but it isn't, and it doesn't really matter. Other than a slightly skew-wiff tailgate, there's precious little to complain about. Crucially, they captured the RENAULT script on the badges to virtual perfection. And check out the reverse light-cum-foglights. Anything else? Yes: The boot and parcel shelf. Nicely captured. But wait: Niiiice. Plug leads would probably be about an inch thick in real life, but hey, maybe they're designed to handle super high current. So, what's it like inside? Fairly marvellous, really. Everything is in exactly the right place, the switches are labelled properly, there's a little map on the gearknob, and the plaque on the dash denotes this one as being number 1467 of the 1820 Turbo 1s built in reality. Of course, the later "2" went without the wild dashboard of this version. One little quality lapse evident here is that the binnacle of said dash is parting from its fundament. I'm willing to forgive them. I could probably strip it down and do some mending if I felt so inclined. "What can we see through the round window?" Speed, revs and ancilliaries. There's more openability up front. Under the erstwhile bonnet is a (accurately non-matching) spare wheel and a fnnnhuuge intake duct for engine cooling, which is fed by a bonnet grille that actually is perforated. Made me ever so excited when I noticed that. That's it, really. I think I paid about £15 for it 'cos, for whatever reason, this model doesn't seem especially sought after. It's not as if eBay is heaving with them, but those examples that do turn up don't seem to attract fierce bidding wars. Mind you, that was about a decade ago. I bought this one and squirelled it away. Like Mr Cog, it's great to get these things out after a long absence and give them a good prodding. i have the turbot 1 in blue flavour and turbot 2 in pearl white cos they are ace! 155V6
This week's finds, part one These came from a charity shop & a midweek car boot, nothing at all from today's car boot, but my disappointment was not to last very long 😀 This week's finds part two We went to feed the ducks this afternoon,in the road leading to the pond, there was a house that had some furniture & other things in the drive, with a sign saying donations. We went & had a look, there were DVDs,books, the normal sort of things but nothing we really wanted. The woman came out from the house & said hello,Miss_155 started chatting & it turned out that that the woman's Mum had recently passed away,& she was starting to clear the house out & she had loads more things to get rid of,& she would be putting more out every few days.Miss_155 then asked if she had any toy cars which I thought would be unlikely, but she replied that there were some somewhere that were hers when she was younger. She went & had a look,& came back with a carrier bag half full.A quick look showed a few interesting things,so I said I'd take them if that was ok.She said yes,& just to put something in the donation pot which I did. So I got home,& this was what I found Schabak Passats, these both have parts missing but are still nice Corgi Matchbox Old stuff Siku Beetles Hot Wheels The rest I was really pleased with what I got,& thanks to the ducks, that's the only time we go down that road .We even saw some geese we hadn't seen before 😁 eddyramrod, bunglebus, andrew e and 7 others

I regularly think back to receiving and unwrapping my first Bburago 1:18. A red E-type. I was eight. It might as well have been a real car, so detailed and heavy did it seem at the time. Datsuncog
The subject of today's reminder that my phone's camera isn't much cop: Tomica Isuzu 117 Coupé. Not a common sight in the UK, but apparently these sold ok in their native Japan. Metallic green paint is wonderfully lustrous. This is a modern reproduction, rather than a 1970s original, more's the pity. I bought a few Tomica models when I was last in Japan, but this is the sole survivor. It came from a toyshop in Harajuku, and I think cost me the equivalent of £7. It also came with a reproduction 1973 Tomica catalogue, which I still enjoy immensely... Spottedlaurel
On these very pages I recently mentioned that I 'needed' a Superfast Flying Bug to complete my set of Matchbox Beetles. It was just after I'd picked up a boxed Volks-Dragon down at Kempton Park, and by happy chance @bunglebusfound one in very nice condition at a boot sale. Last night I got round to taking some compare-and-contrast photos, I was curious to see what similarity there was (or wasn't) between them. Notes on dates etc are taken from my Claudia Nancy Schiffer book "Matchbox Toys". 15 VW Beetle 1500 Saloon - I believe it was a carryover from the Regular Wheels range, launched as a Superfast in 1970. Dropped for 1972, I suppose having all four Beetles in the range at the same time was a touch OTT, and by then the custom/fantasy cars were taking over from the crisply-detailed early Superfast road cars. 31 Volks-Dragon - Launched 1971, replaced the Lincoln Continental (as recently discussed on here). It's clearly based on the 1500, but with widened front wings and running boards and a lot of changes around the rear end. Seats appear to be similar but oddly there's no steering wheel. 11 Flying Bug - Replaced the attractive Mercedes scaffolding truck in 1972. It's lost the separate headlights and gained some fairly obvious additions, but it still seems to be a development of the original via elements of Volks-Dragon. 43 Dragon Wheels - Another one from 1972, replacing the Pony Trailer. Remained in the range for a fair while until 1978, you can see mine is a later issue with the dot-dash wheels and stripey box. It has no suspension but does gain a lift-up body - I don't know if the funny car chassis is similar to the Dodge Charger's? Again the basic 1500 bodyshell appears to have been the starting point. Lots of modifications around the back end. More differences than similarities in the baseplate casting. My Flying Bug appears to be the original issue, with square sticker on the front bootlid and unreinforced baseplate - it gained some little triangular gussets behind those thin parts ahead of the front wheels (although surely they would have been protected by the deeper front wings?). The front bootlid shape is the most recognisably similar element between them all (albet stretched ahead of the windscreen on Dragon Wheels). And finally, I thought it ought to have a quick comparison with 14 Mini-Ha-Ha. Both equally silly, with the same head moulding but different helmets. The only one I recall having as a youngster was the Flying Bug. I have a feeling it was one that got taken to primary school when I was about 5-6 and got borrowed/pinched/lost, so it's the first time I've had a good look at one for 45+ years. Pressing down on the big wing at the back makes it do a satisfying wheelie, and there's a bit of boing to the front suspension when it comes down again. With a scrap 1500 road car and appropriate skills there's probably scope to make a decent custom Beetle out of it.
