I'm not normally very interested in Solido but I'm guessing this is quite an old one? Lovely subject matter and appropriately soft suspension

That's a great find at a boot sale. Even has the bumper thingy intact! If you ever want to move that one on I'd give it a loving home alongside the French Dinky & Norev versions I have

Some more figures. These, I think, were made by Scalextric . The ones holding poles used to have flags. i never did have any Scalextric sets.

These fireman  were made by Dinky.

The hose is missing. I played with these and the fire engine I no longer have.

I also later found the 6th fireman and here he is with 2 policemen.

The motorbike rider was from a Britains Triumph. The one walking I have no clue who made him. He is made of softish plastic.FigsPolice.thumb.jpg.c3ffdf13c5053b6013583f49ab138b03.jpg

Ahhhhh! I think that green plastic estate car's the same as one I had when I was a kid - possibly an Early Learning Centre item.

My memory was jogged a few months back during a discussion on ELC stuff on the thread - I've been thinking about it ever since. I also had a US police car and Land Rover breakdown wagon from the same range; the LR seemed to have been scaled up from the Corgi Juniors release.

With no name on the base, it's been impossible to search for an image of it.

Does the front of it look a bit like a Plymouth Gran Fury?

See the source image

As far as I can recall, the police car was a Gran Fury, possibly scaled up/down from the Matchbox 1-75 or Superkings release. I think the estate car had the same front end - and I don't think it was a copy of the similar-looking Matchbox K-57 Dodge Monaco station wagon...

Anyway, sorry... bit of overexcitement there.

Nice Majorette 245!

I'd really like to find the Castrol (?) Corgi 245 with the roof rack.

Yup, Team Castrol.

See the source image

I'd really like one of those too - I think I had one once, but I don't know what became of it. I think these were all mid-80s releases, post-Mettoy.

The roofrack also appeared on the Duckhams rally version of the Mercedes 240D:

See the source image

A similar, but not identical roofrack with the wheels and fuel cans also appeared on the later Mountain Rescue version of the Range Rover.

See the source image

The roofracks were quite fragile and prone to breaking, as I recall - but still, it was a good way of wringing a bit more play value from what were quite venerable castings by that stage.

That's the one!

Looks more or less like a Gran Fury front end to me.

think mine was red - with the police car in blue, and the breakdown Land Rover in yellow.

I'd thought maybe they came as a set of three, in kiddy-friendly primary colours, but then maybe not if you've got a green one.

I don't know much more about them, I'm afraid - nor do I especially want one - but there's a certain nostalgia rush when you recognise something buried deep, deep down in the memory.

Excellent, thank you!

Well, indeed - as with the Corgi-inspired Land Rover wrecker, it's possible there were some general dimensions and detail taken from either a Dinky or Matchbox version of the Gran Fury, though with a fair bit of simplification to make it easier to mould.

Wish I still had my plastic originals - though there's a slim chance they still may be in the Cogparents' attic, alongside other baby stuff...

Crikey, £60.

Worth every penny.

Massive hnnnnngh for this...

(When I was about eight I owned a battered Corgi Juniors Mack R-series in army olive drab, which I tried to 'paint' black with a permanent marker, to resemble Kris Kristofferson's rig. I think this one might be a bit* better.)

IMG_20220113_153417.thumb.jpg.58066e704aa0ff0edbaa14f18f377c63.jpg

I'm also just realising I got shot of these two market tat survivors in January, so I can definitely* justify such a purchase...

I am off to the Philippines shortly and they appear to have quite a lot of model vehicles for sale like the iconic jeepney. I am not going to spend too much time searching but I know they still have ToysRus and I would be willing to bring back some models if there is any interest. All appear to be boxed and the jeepney is 5" and comes in gold or a variety of colours. There is also a Hot Wheels jeepney not shown.

They also have a large selection of Tomica models and I have posted a few below. If there is a particular model you are after I will check.

Pricewise to be confirmed but I anticipate £10 each including p&p.  If more than one perhaps £7 each.

I have also posted in For Sale.

Went to BnM today. Shite. They’re usually picked clean of the good stuff straight away then the carcas is left to hang.

needed fruit so instead of going to Aldi on way home we went to Morrisons next to BnM instead. Thinking out loud, what might they have? A box of hot wheels on the lowest shelf….. picked clean again. Oh what’s this? A fresh unopened box of randoms behind? Out she comes……. Wicked

Recent acquisition. I  like the way Hot Wheels are going all 1970s Matchbox Lesney Rolamatic style. The engine wobbles from a small tab on a front wheel when the car is pushed forward. All HW now need to do is fit suspension, make the doors and bonnet open and we're back to where we were fifty years ago!

If nobody minds awfully I fancy sharing another 1:18 that I've been sitting on for a while.

a20220615_194542.thumb.jpg.849d8e7f78507f695d96b4772fc4e653.jpg

Yup, the Renault 5 Turbo, original mid-engine stylee.

This is another one of those models that punches well above its weight when it comes to accuracy, quality and attention to detail for the money. Especially if you snagged it on eBay for £suprisinglylittle.

aCIMG9369.thumb.jpg.66be8681605664ba56e3d9990bf55cc1.jpg

l always liked the 5 Turbo for its sheer unlikeliness. Pert little wobbly French economy voiture suddenly sprouts enormous, American football shoulders and gets infused with 100 extra horsepower. Madness.

This model is labelled as a Revell, but it's been marketed under a variety of names over the years, including Universal Hobbies and, I think, Solido.

aCIMG9373.thumb.jpg.b9b0db91f9be98238631bd75bbc873b8.jpg

The only thing I can really criticise this casting for is that the radiuses are a bit on the chunky side. I'm talking about the door shuts and the corners of the opening panels (of which there are four). Basically, if this was scaled up to life size, the body panels would be wrought from half-inch steel.

aCIMG9371.thumb.jpg.011bfa3b26e77f618e1f3603742ec776.jpg

If this were an AutoArt release, those grilles would probably be perforated, but it isn't, and it doesn't really matter. Other than a slightly skew-wiff tailgate, there's precious little to complain about.

a20220615_194631.thumb.jpg.69328517652fd7c5cc9f930344c2a1ae.jpg

Crucially, they captured the RENAULT script on the badges to virtual perfection. And check out the reverse light-cum-foglights.

Anything else?

Yes:

a20220615_150918.thumb.jpg.47a6a6a56051e58bdee07f7cb274d278.jpg

The boot and parcel shelf. Nicely captured. But wait:

a20220615_150835.thumb.jpg.4971b6ed07efe652f92fe5190e3a7bae.jpg

Niiiice. Plug leads would probably be about an inch thick in real life, but hey, maybe they're designed to handle super high current.

So, what's it like inside?

a20220615_184406.thumb.jpg.5e3add6edfb42d120c594165258a1cae.jpg

Fairly marvellous, really. Everything is in exactly the right place, the switches are labelled properly, there's a little map on the gearknob, and the plaque on the dash denotes this one as being number 1467 of the 1820 Turbo 1s built in reality. Of course, the later "2" went without the wild dashboard of this version. One little quality lapse evident here is that the binnacle of said dash is parting from its fundament. I'm willing to forgive them. I could probably strip it down and do some mending if I felt so inclined.

a20220615_184652.thumb.jpg.fb6aab29b28318ef822e9558d410c594.jpg

"What can we see through the round window?" Speed, revs and ancilliaries.

a20220615_151040.thumb.jpg.a90f378fac94553b40c80d4c86defa27.jpg

There's more openability up front. Under the erstwhile bonnet is a (accurately non-matching) spare wheel and a fnnnhuuge intake duct for engine cooling, which is fed by a bonnet grille that actually is perforated. Made me ever so excited when I noticed that.

aCIMG9367b.thumb.jpg.570884864e7b02307321251dfba2aaee.jpg

That's it, really. I think I paid about £15 for it 'cos, for whatever reason, this model doesn't seem especially sought after. It's not as if eBay is heaving with them, but those examples that do turn up don't seem to attract fierce bidding wars. Mind you, that was about a decade ago. I bought this one and squirelled it away. Like Mr Cog, it's great to get these things out after a long absence and give them a good prodding.
