Just got time to show you this before we go to the outlaw's for Easter dinner - I had one of these tumbling buggies when I was a kid, so couldn't resist a boxed one for £2.00

I'll find some C cells and test it later

Oh what a find.

Reminds me a Christmas, must have been 10 and wanted a remote control car.

Imagine my horror when I opened a yellow version of this. Santa really let me down with his Sunday market haul that year.

I don't dwell mind!! 🤔

Found it!

Seems it was indeed made by Palitoy.

I'd thought it was probably made by another manufacturer - the quality was ok, but not brilliant.

That's a very small part of my mind that can rest easy now...

That looks more like a DAF 66 YA then a Kübelwagen.

Read up on the BX4TC, probably one of the most interesting Group B cars.

1565901853_IMG_20220104_2151272.thumb.jpg.159faf6ecd3d7fe5a063c57cc55bfedb.jpgLovely to see the big Action Man vehicles - I had a load of hand-me-downs from my older cousin, including the Foden truck (with doors and hatch present, but without the rear load cover or fold-down side bits), a Jeep with a missing bonnet, a self-propelled gun (as shown at the top left of the poster above), some bits of a howitzer, a motorbike and sidecar, and a sandy-coloured staff car that looked vaguely like an overinflated Kübelwagen.

They were all pretty well used when they passed to me, and even more used whenever I sent them on their way - think I sold them at a car boot sale when I was in my late teens. The SPG seems to have been a Palitoy item, but I'm not sure whether my Jeep was by them as well or another toymaker.

Would have been nice to have them still, but they were pretty big!

We had the Scorpion Tank , but I’m sure we also had a Lightweight Land Rover. Maybe it was that Jeep and my memory is playing tricks on me , I remember dropping it off the coal house roof with an Action Man parachute , so I’m sure it was an Airportable. It didn’t get broken even though the parachute was rubbish. I convinced my brother to jump off that roof with Action Man’s parachute too. Didn’t break his fall either, I remember my Mum freaking out though.

My Grandma used to study the AM catalogue and copy the uniforms on her sewing machine.

As with the military version of the Jeep which initially appeared with 'Jeep Hot Rod' stamped on its base, it seems that quite a lot of the early mainline MB05 run still came with incorrect Roman Numeral bases calling it a No.II Sleet-N-Snow - including those sold in the UK.

747646278_MatchboxMB5USMailJeep-SleetnSnowbase.thumb.jpg.d28e2788f2383cfaa1b5d20869707b40.jpg

Additionally, the verified Roman Numerals Jeeps seem to have plastic seats in the back - like the 1976/77 release 'flat floor' military Jeeps. Mine, however, has cast metal seats like the 1978-on yellow 900 Series car.

So it may be the case that the way of telling genuine limited-edition No.II Sleet-N-Snows apart from incorrectly based MB05 mainline US Mail Trucks is the rear seating.

Plastic = genuine US limited edition.

Metal = mislabelled mainline

1305349205_MatchboxMB05USMailJeepblueseats.jpg.0e4928785201f5df0a1cb5f7b083d591.jpg

So that seems to clear up the mystery, after all these years.

If anyone else has one of these, I'd be interested to see what your baseplate says - especially as I've yet to find a pic of a 'proper' MB05 US Mail Truck base.

I remembered you mentioned these Jeeps recently* look what arrived today

Matchbox Superfast No.II Sleet N Snow

Very probably an error, as it has the cast-in seating in the rear (and no windscreen, TADS)

Matchbox Superfast No.II Sleet N Snow

My other one...

Matchbox Superfast 5 U.S. Mail Truck

...has the US Mail Truck base

Matchbox Superfast 5 U.S. Mail Truck

Lightweight Land Rover was a Palitoy product, as opposed to the Willy's Jeep which was Cherilea.

My old Auntie knitted a fair few uniforms and a track suit for AM over the years,  the guy I gave the collection to really liked them.

Latest delivery. Another 'original Pilen' ticked off the list. This is another particularly nice one (although they are all lovely, really) - the Seat 850 Spider in fetching metallic green.

20220425_135254.thumb.jpg.c653eb892d705d715b36a91c4212ce58.jpg

20220425_135334.thumb.jpg.2caa5dcfcb2f5ecb0e76921ec8de64fd.jpg

Lots of play value with this one, which has opening everything, tilting seats, a decent representation of the engine and supple suspension. The wheels have Seat hubcaps and rubber tyres - even the fuel filler cap is a separatepart. I think there are 25 components making up this tiny toy.

20220425_135432.thumb.jpg.a3b29763a7206259527ea27d071e2ce9.jpg

There is a slight issue with the base casting....

20220425_135400.thumb.jpg.027074b5d8b3cc156e300943281eea60.jpg

But hey, nobody's perfect. Here it is with its Coupé brother. Just need a saloon now for the set.

20220425_135500.thumb.jpg.8bacb87afde07e2b398645c6225b823e.jpg

And with a 'normal' Pilen to show the titchy size (it's about 8.7cm long)

20220425_135545.thumb.jpg.3d52658f044de69dfca934247e7d6d74.jpg

Overall, excellent and an one I'm very pleased to add to the non-collection. But then I always say that. As ever with these Pilens, the lack of casting lines is clearly evident and the paint is a wonderful lustrous metallic which looks great but I'm sure is very fragile.

Mercury made a series one Fiat 850 Spider which goes for huge money, but I'd love one to compare the two.

Had a spare Husky VW single cab pickup

Husky Volkswagen pickup custom

So I thought I'd give it a makeover, the blue windows reminded me of a well known UK custom one

Volksworld 2019 118

So black it was to be. Closest match to the Fuchs wheels was early Superfast, sanded down to reduce their overall diameter as they have rather a lot of sidewall.

Not 100% happy with the detailing on this one but in my defence it is really tiny!

I’ve got that but the mechanical one that you drop a bit of oil in.

More info please-

I had a large  black plastic one. It had a battery powered motor in it. The internet shows me that it was made by a company called Victory Industries.

I’ll have to root it out, it’s orange and where the diff is there’s a hole for oil and it’s got a sort of friction motor? From about the early sixties possibly.
