Mostly though there was just no effort to detail things like headlights that would have made a world of difference. Probably helps that that ^ is a modified Husky casting, and was clearly very nicely done in the first place. I have attacked a Junior Mercedes too, that was pretty nice in the end but the base is of the same standard as a Chinese no-name, so that went in the bin, and it had some oddities like some of the casting lines being on the surface rather than in relief as you would expect FakeConcern, andrew e, Datsuncog and 2 others

bunglebus
OK a question about the V.W. Hot Rod - I was in two minds whether to paint the front spoiler body colour - and having just found the card art Corgi obviously thought the sameThere's definitely some differences between that picture and the toy, the exhausts are far less extreme and it's LHD rather than a single central seat, and a post 1968 car rather than the clearly early 60s body. Anyway - I decided to polish it as it reminds me of a 50s Kamei accessory oneNot sure whether to change it now andrew e and Datsuncog

MiniMort
A few months back I bought a 70s Matchbox of a Mk1 Capri. Sadly I never took a photo of what it was originally like, but it was effectively a rougher version of this. Well, a few months of not getting round to it, some cellulose thinners, a spray can and some acrylic paints later... Obviously it's not perfect by any means but I'm relatively pleased with it. andrew e, eddyramrod, RayMK and 8 others

bunglebus
That's nice. Getting harder to find stuff like that for reasonable money now. I think I might have to re-do the paint on the roof of the colour trial Shovel Nose, it matched nicely until I lacquered it. Felt really odd putting a freshly painted part in a bag full of screws and bashing it about to replicate the wear too! 155V6
A few new bits this week. Tuesday night was the local toy fair, not too much there but I found this Majorette Safrane The livery reminds me of an promotional ashtray which used to live at my parent's house about 50 years ago,I think it may still be there 😂 This Corgi Woody Woodpecker car is something I've been after for a while, but the ones I could afford on eBay were usually basket cases Then today,I came home to this small lot of Corgi Rockets I already have most of them, but was really pleased to get the lime green XJ6 as it seems quite rare 😁 AndyW201, bunglebus, andrew e and 6 others
Jon
Watcha fellas, long time lurking but not much doing by me here on these pages. Busy with work and other things but you all know the score. Anyway, thought I'd show you what I've been up to in the last while. I went to a couple of retro fairs a couple of weeks ago and apart from bagging a part completed Hornsea Cinnamon coffee set: Which I was able to complete, since I'm a Hornsea hoarder: (Bonus extra cup - I later found another saucer in a saucer pile in the cupboard...) I found and bought this hapless chap, for 50c (25p): Apologies for unwittingly art-wank image, it was really hot yesterday and I couldn't see my phone screen. Here's also what it looks like: from the first shot, you can see the axles were all rusted up and from the others, that there was barely any paint left. I had an idea to make a down and dirty 'resto', to test whether I was actually into that kind of lark, safe in the knowledge I couldn't make it any worse. I also wanted to use what I already had, to save any needless expenditure on a 25 pence folly. First up, drill off the rivet head to get it into component form: Then I bathed the chassis and axles in a water based rust converter. After a couple of hours, I was impatient and didn't wait for the suspension torsion bar thing to fully clean, so sanded back the bits that contacted the axles and gave a light oil. Knocked the wheels free from the axles, sanded and oiled and job's a good'un - it free wheels and doesn't squeak. Couldn't find any paint stripper then remembered how good spilt brake fluid is at stripping paint when you don't want it to, so chucked the body in a jar of manky old fluid I had sitting on a window sill in the garage. No idea why I hold onto such crap but yesterday was it's useful day, so bravo, past lazy me. Polished the body whilst watching a YouTube vid at lunch time, so it looked like this: Looked better in person and was lovely and smooth. Then I stopped taking photos and gave it a couple of coats of cheap bronze spray paint, followed by a couple of layers of equally cheap lacquer this morning and here's what I came up with: I lacquered the glass after cleaning it with Jif but it's pretty cracked and generally crappy anyway, so it's better but still not good. I'll admit to a couple of fish eyes in the paint and I've already chipped it after I dropped it on the carpet just now but I wanted to see if I enjoyed the process or not - i.e. can I be chuffed to do it better next time. Jury's out on that one but it kept me sane in the last 24 hours, between bouts of boring adult tasks. MiniMort
I can completely relate to the paint related issues. My first time spraying a diecast it looked like a really crap banger racer. Still I guess it's all about perseverance if you're interested, but you should be pleased with the BMW - it looks amazing! Jon

bunglebus
I had a bit of a mad dismantle/strip session recently hence lots of cars getting finished in a short space of time. This will be the last for a little while as I'm struggling for custom wheels for Superkings size cars now. You might remember I acquired a second early Matchbox camper with the fuel door casting Well I thought it deserved a resto, so no detailing or getting rid of casting lines for this one RayMK, Jon, eddyramrod and 10 others

No - they deleted the fuel flap so they could apply the decal, so the ones with that casting are quite unusual. I've been keeping my eye out for them, a reasonable one just went for £15, I did find another in a job lot but sat on my hands, I don't need another one! Remspoor
Bedford TK Sheet glass carrier, by Budgie. Lost the plastic sheet which were used as glass a long time ago.
