I've also been watching Matchbox Lesney late 1970s 'Build-a-truck' examples. I jointly owned one with my bro back in the day.

I played with one of those as a wee lad that had belonged to my Dad, when he was a wee lad. That's brought back memories I forgot about. :)

Just checking out those Tonkas from yesterday, the red one is the same body as my other one but the front and rear bumper/grille etc are different. The new ones also have working suspension

I though the white one was the same body but different lights to my old one(s) but various bits of the stamping are different

I'm sure @flat4alfaposted up a Tonka catalogue a while back, I need to find myself one

Research gave me the following websites. on which I could find more information on my die-casts.

Matchbox

A searchable database of die-cast models.

Corgi Toys from1956 to 1974

Morestone and Budgie, plus a few other brands

I was pleasantly surprised to find a quantity  of websites also selling parts or transfers for renovating vehicles.

Steve Flowers seems to be the most highly regarded, even if his website is stuck in the 90s!

I've found plenty of links for info on diecasts over the years, some like Hot Wheels and Matchbox have pretty good Wiki pages etc as you've found - some of the others don't. Hobby DB is a pretty good place to start

Looks like it's Tonka week, this one is friction motored and makes the correct horrific scream before you hit the button on the roof to release it. Looks like a Fiero?

Next up is a pull-back, Gremlin? Pinto? Scramblers #702 Hub Heater

Last one I do know - model A Ford. Tonka called it Frantic Flivver

My latest failure to stop buying miniature shite is, slightly inevitably, bus shaped.

20220105_142926.thumb.jpg.9a105e7a52a1f3fa3c1d7dcb0c8ad0e5.jpg

It's a Leyland National, first generation, with those lovely Standard-Triumph inspired front indicator clusters.

More relevantly for me, though, it's YEV308S, which I'm pretty sure made regular appearances as a contract bus for my school in the early 90s.

Back in those days it wore a slightly different livery, with a darker shade of grey and an overtly 80s "Eastern National" script over the door. I'm actually rather surprised it survived for long enough to be outfitted in the later scheme.

This particular model has a few more imperfections than was advertised, including missing paint from the O/S reversing light lens, but that's probably a fair reflection of the full-size machine, which seemed pretty tired in the 90s and must have been borderline scrap not long later.

The casting itself is a belter. Catches the proportions superbly, except that the rear wheels are rather too far inset. I always liked the National; I always thought that roof pod (I know they didn't all have them, and they came in varying lengths) gave it a rather sporty air, and I enjoyed seeing the scavenge fan rotating behind that grille on the rear end.

I'll probably (almost certainly) end up (desperately) looking (searching) for a National Mk2 in the older livery to go with it.

I too was always a big fan of these. The spoiler, especially.

I used to make them out of LEGO. Atlantean's, too.

I still remember making a Domestos advert for the side of one, from 2" masking tape and permanent marker.

I've still got my red one 70 1/2-73 Camaro & possibly still got blue one.

The yellow on in other post is supposed to be a pinto or possibly a maverick.
