Just how many versions are there exactly? I've had to resist trying to grab every one I see as there seem to be endless variations

Mrs is watching Young Sheldon on Netflix with her daughter, seems he had good taste in toy cars, and considering it's supposed to be Texas in 1989, there are an awful lot of Matchbox in the mix! How many can you ID?

Sheldon1.thumb.jpg.db882aa5066c853942b73ad3ab8004e5.jpg

Plenty of 60's - 70's Matchbox, but that yellow T-top Corvette is a 1987 USA only release

Sheldon2.thumb.jpg.6c71f0566e6ec20a7b815b51d5c37a43.jpg

Next shot is scrolling but we can still make out an Alfa Carabo among others

Sheldon3.thumb.jpg.07ea9aa4cc83f2a6f581473a1d150fe6.jpg

silver Kidco Corvette next to two very early Hot Wheels redlines, a Custom Barracuda and a Custom Cougar - what's the black one front right?

Sheldon4.thumb.jpg.dae14f8c1c38826706480a84b93ba95a.jpg

Another redline, haven't ID'd it just yet Warpath, 1975 Flying Colors

Sheldon5.thumb.jpg.33543d446dcede2b3d4602a592f7f0c2.jpg

Jag XJ6 and IROC Camaro sandwith an earlier Fiat 1500 - and a glimpse of some larger plastic cars - we see it again moments later

Sheldon7.jpg.0e2c578cedfe649bb6a779c85f44e50f.jpg

Here's the plastic 50s sedan with another redline (Twin Mill) and a Matchbox dragster - not sure on the Corvette

Sheldon8.jpg.9aab92864dcb1f904c90caca809d8a95.jpg

Two more blurry redlines and something far older in green - but what?

Here's a fun* story (* actual amount of fun may disappoint)

T'other day, being that Christmas was such a strange affair this year 'cos of Covid isolation, I thought I'd get my Bburago E-type out of the loft.

FHh-AnwWUAUtoVdb.thumb.jpg.c0b4f8da61f231772cb8f513c9e70fef.jpg

It's one of two identical models that I was given on Christmas day '88; my parents bought me one and my grandparents evidently had the same idea. On hearing about the duplication, they offered to swap theirs for another model, but —in a frightening moment of lucidity — seven year-old me said nope, reasoning that I could keep one to play with and one to keep boxed. Pictured is the one I kept boxed.

When I got it, I sat with my grandfather (he who would later give me a series of Rover 800s), and he pointed out all the bits, what they did and how they worked. Under the bonnet alone he had me recognising the exhaust manifolds. SU carburettors, the radiator and sundry other components.

By today's 1:18 standards it's a pretty basic model, but it's fundamentally right, and that's the most important thing.

One thing about it that isn't fundamentally right, though, is the registration; it's a '67 plate on a 1961 car. That's another thing that Poppa pointed out, and it's irked me a bit ever since.

Today, though, I finally had the presence of mind to google the number plate JDU877E.

I found that there, in fact, was a Jaguar E-type bearing that reg: a 4.2 finished in Primrose, belonging at first to the Jaguar press fleet.

JDU877E.jpg.d2d98a2554243a9d19d61895305c1054.jpg

It appeared in a number of movies, it would seem, and was later exported. It now appears to belong to somebody in Malaysia.

SO, thought I. I wonder if Bburago ever made an E-type in the correct colour for that registration plate.

The answer is yes. Yes they did. However...

primrose.thumb.jpg.d71397c02194304098c9f9c76a6198f4.jpg

...slightly frustratingly, they also abridged the registration to JDU877. So it's now theoretically 1961-appropriate, and tantalisingly close to correct...

BUT NOT QUITE.

I've never been able to figure out what dodge it's supposed to be???

I've seen a lot of topics on this on model forums etc, there's never been a conclusive answer. It doesn't say Dodge anywhere on the model,or on the packaging.

I think it's just a generic model, with a few styling hints from real vehicles which people have picked up on.

Obviously, this is just my opinion,I'm happy to be proved wrong 😉

Christmas money plus a bit in my Paypal account from selling another kit spent:

Image 1 - Tamiya Ford Sierra XR4i Car Series No.52 1/24 Scale Model Kit 1985

Most expensive kit I've purchased, and it's been lightly started, but that makes it ideal for actually building.

Having finally organised my stash of kits it's apparent I have enough for a good few years, but it'd be good to improve the variety/quality of what's there by the odd bit of trading/selling.

Hey the snow ploughs a new one! Any other shots? I too have an unhealthy collection of these, they were my favourite as a kid.

Some of the Majorette Unimogs have a plough as well,I'm guessing it was the same part.

It would be good to see some pictures of your collection of these 😀

I remember when I was young Majorette cars always seemed to have that rectangular hole in the base, was it for moulding or holding it steady in the box?

I think it's to do with how the sprung steel wires are attached that form the suspension. They clip on either side of the hole
