bunglebus
I'll put this here rather than the ebay thread as I doubt anyone's going to be dropping £350 on it - how come Dinky used "Superfast" on this set? No idea if it predates Lesney's use of the term https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dinky-Toys-Super-fast-Gift-Set-245-Diecast-Model-Car-Set-Boxed-Vgc-DB6-/393711551645?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 AndyW201, bicycle repairman, Dick Longbridge and 4 others

(Although hopefully Santa will be bringing something diecast...) As said before, Vanguards are a large part of my collection, but they are so expensive nowadays. It seems only part work models are the bargains in 1/43 now. I did manage to snag this Golf for £19 posted, which while not being pocket change, is just over half the RRP. The Monza Blue variant was new this year (albeit held over from 2020), so only about the third brand new Vanguards model I've had this year. The price shows how unpopular these MK2 Golfs are, which is a little unfair. The more ardent collectors and classic car fans were spluttering their real ale into their beards when Vanguards launched a number of more contemporary, European themed models into the range, probably going for the Minichamps market. ("Harrumph! 1980s European cars indeed...") There were the Mk1 & 2 Golf, BMW E30, Peugeot 205 & 309, Vauxhall Astra Mk2 and Cavalier MK3. They didn't sell too well at the time, though some like the Cavaliers and the Peugeots can go for strong money. Even now, unsold beige Golf MK2 CLs can be found brand new on eBay. Only the Oak Green big bumper GTi seems to be sought after, natch. In all though, it is IMHO a good model, the Mk2's shape is captured very well indeed. The join at the bumper/wheelarch is a little clumsy, but it does allow different versions like the base CL and big/small bumper GTis. Sadly, at this time, there was a bit of cheapening going on, so those 'modern classics' mentioned above came without the usual sprung suspension, and had things like solid, rather than hollow exhaust tailpipes and less detail on the wheels. It has to be said, these 16 valve wheels are among the worst they have done. The lack of detail and the too-high tyre profile make it look like it's wearing 13" steels with trims. The Pirelli P-slot ones they do for the early GTis are better but not by much, only the BBS type on the big bumper ones are reasonable. The sunroof detail is tampo printed rather than stamped, but again it allows for the base versions. Being a 2021 version though, it does have interior detail, with a nice representation of the rainbow cloth. However, I've already bollocksed it up, as when I got it, there were some annoying thumbprints on the inside of the rear screen. (Not unusual apparently, as Corgi recently changed the supplier in China where the models are made) and when taking the car apart to clean them off, the rear wiper pinged off, never to be seen again... 😡 No complaints on the front end though. Everything, badges, lights, red stripes and even the plate font are brilliant. Same story at the rear, tailpipes apart. Still, I'm liking this one, and it fills a gap in the Vanguards collection. A set of replacement wheels would transform it, I think. am a sadgit but its got a kendal reg AndyW201 and eddyramrod

Jon
Merry Christmas everyone! Speaking to Mrs_Jon yesterday, it became apparent that she hadn't got me anything for Christmas (she's a terrible liar, so defo wasn't bluffing). Therefore, I rectified this oversight, to ensure I had something to open: On getting home just now and laying them out for the pic, I noticed an anomaly! I also got this, since I fancied it and I'm a grown up, so can make these sorts of decisions: It's also a bit of retribution, as I've got Mrs_Jon one of these, bought a while back when the price wasn't extortionate: Not really my cup of tea but I know she'll love it! But then there was buy one, get 1 half price, which saved another $2 (£1), so a nice little bonus. Thought some might like the Sierra! And yes, that is a BMW CSL on the wrong card. Amishtat
Picked up this Husky Caddy last weekend, the nicest condition of anything in the box. Paid and put it straight into my coat pocket (so as it wouldn't get any more chipped) and definitely didn't only remember now I've put that coat on. Absolutely not.. Shame about the missing tyre but at least it has a tow hook and a bonnet. RoadworkUK, Split_Pin, junkyarddog and 6 others
Amishtat
Also gave the TK a clean and loaded it up ready to go in the cabinet. I must have had the MGB about thirty years and have never really appreciated it much before. No idea just what that is stuck to the osf wheel but it's tenacious. It's been lopsided as long as I can recall too. Minimad5, Datsuncog, RoadworkUK and 7 others

Missy Charm
First car related question applies to this thing (in a manner of speaking), rather than a full sized vehicle. The car itself takes four UM2 batteries, plus a separate 9 volt on a snap on terminal connector. My assumption, given that seventies electronics were relatively primitive, is that the 9 volt radio battery provides a permanent 'live' feed to the radio receiver and steering actuator. The receiver, in turn, then electronically switches the motor drive circuit between forward, reverse and off. The main battery array, the UM2s, are only live when the motor is running. Does that sound about right? andrew e, bicycle repairman and AndyW201

bunglebus
Went on a collection mission this morning. Was a bit chilly First stop, Leigh for a couple of small lots - main prize being the red Superfast Mustang Then onto Laindon after a 20 minute delay as some muppet decided the week before Christmas would be a great time to cone off a lane of the A127 (no sign of anyone working either). Here I collected a very nice K6/11 with pokey-out engine and a good canopy. Still not found a Hondarora though Other item I'd won off him was this - I'm still not collecting Galanite as this is a Norwegian Tomte-Laerdal! I got home just as Hermes and Postie man were dropping off a couple of bits, hoping someone will know a bit about this one - French made Dinky Alfetta GTV. At first glace I had dismissed it as a Bburago The other box contained three bagged Color Changer Hot wheels, two (Probe) funny cars... ...and this one which I haven't ID'd yet *edit* '93 T-Bird/T-Bird Stocker One of the funny cars was open so I thought I'd test it Hairdryer on the other one netted a similar if less interesting result 155V6, Tenmil Socket, andrew e and 2 others

I have a Dinky-branded Citroen Visa (and a Solido version, actually). Not sure if it was just for the benefit of the UK and maybe US markets where Dinky was a more familiar name? bunglebus
You may or may not remember this Volks-Dragon I found in a charity shop last month Well I thought I'd give it a makeover, and it fought me hard. I swapped the base with a spare as the corrosion was quite deep, slimmed and re-shaped the rear bumper to look a bit more Volkswageny, and then spent ages filing, sanding and filling the terrible casting lines. Then having done the matt black, I came back a few days later to find lots of hairline cracks in the paint. Don't know what went wrong but I had to strip the lot and do all the filler work again. There are several ways to two-tone a Beetle, this is the only way I think looks good Purple was a new can I was trying out and is very orange peeley unfortunately AndyW201, Datsuncog, D.E and 3 others
