Justwatching Posted November 17, 2021 Share Posted November 17, 2021 Another 1982 Dodge Diplomat, this time in NYPD livery. The colour scheme NYPD had going in the 70s and 80s really looked great. I absolutely love this model, even if I did have to break the light bar off to straighten it. I know I've said before, but Greenlight quality control is non-existent. The Fruehauf I bought in some logic as the tyres to fix the Daf Transporter were more than the £1 it has cost me. I was hoping to keep a shelf at the bottom for diecasts, but with a few more completions I'll be struggling for space again unless I start demoting them to a box or taking them to work (the latter not such a bad idea). I used an old shelf upright as a bearer underneath, which is conveniently drilled and has metal pins, so I've hung a few HW/MBX off them. Spur shelving on the right will be used for WIP kits. This one is in the study/studio/hobby room inside the house, I'm going to use the desk below for building kits as well providing a home for the PC. Another cabinet will remain in the garage, I'm temporarily unpacking the diecasts and chucking them in there, pending a proper sort-out. At some I also need to unpack the 'proper' collection of boxed Superfast which are in yet another cabinet on the landing. If so, try wrapping a slither round the LED lights to diffuse them a bit and also see if they can turn 90 degrees in the box, to span the walls. No idea if that'll make any improvements at all but it looks like something that's infinitely adjustable. I could put them over the top instead and defuse them through cloth if needed. Might as well work out how best to do it using a cardboard box then make something better later. Looking for a nice cotton sheet to chop up, what I'm using is a dust sheet like those disposable overalls you can buy. After bagging a W124 saloon earlier this year, I still wanted the C124 Koop version. This one came up on the 'bay with no bids at 6 quid, which is what I got it for. No cardboard outer box, but the acrylic case is in good order. At the price I wasn't complaining. The C124 is a handsome thing, well modelled here. When I first unboxed it, I thought it was Bornite and got a bit excited, but it turns out to be Anthracite, which is a dark grey with more than a hint of bronze. As a former serial owner of square, brown Mercs, I'm more than happy! This makes a nice contrast with the saloon model, as this is the later 124, with the smaller grille set into the bonnet, when they became the first series to be called the E Class and were badged accordingly. Glad to see the intricate (and easily broken off) bonnet star is in situ. A late model such as this shouldn't have gingercators though... The Minichamps coupé and cabriolet 124s do have a nice little surprise in store compared with the saloons, with an opening bonnet and boot. Not bad detailing under the bonnet. Interior detail, as is usual on these Mercs is fab, though <pedant alert> they seem to have used the clocks from a diesel (clock instead of a rev counter). Nice Becker stereo though! Timber and 'ruched' leather on the side panels and the later airbag wheel is spot on. Only problem seems to be when handling the car, the rear wheels felt 'sticky' and when I put it down, I found some of the silver paint had smudged off one of them. Weird. A job for the silver Sharpie! Nice to see a variety of models on the thread again rather than just Corgi and Matchbox. I have a soft spot for these older Minichamps 'Paul's Model Art' cars. It's weird how most of them don't have any opening features with the exception of a few random items. I have a BMW M3 with an opening bonnet but it's the only one in my collection that does. The interior detail is brilliant and punches way above its scale. I recall being bowled over the first time I looked inside a model like this. Ooft, that's bringing back some memories... we used to stock Quartzo in the model shop I worked in, c.1996. Not big sellers, as I think the range was solely European touring cars - but pretty well rendered. Can't remember who made them, I've a funny feeling it was someone like Vitesse or Trofeu - dunno if the box has any hints? Not bad value for €5, anyway!
