Nothing to do this afternoon,so I took a trip around 5 charity shops I haven't visited for ages.

No diecast at all,but I couldn't leave this behind20211004_174903.thumb.jpg.79f9cfe7d72d6f56064a270f1c273a97.jpg

Then it was on to the other big Tesco near me.They had the new stuff, but there wasn't much left,& no singles I needed.

I did get this though,7 decent cars for Ā£8.00 is alright with me šŸ˜20211004_174842.thumb.jpg.e53fcb8b58bd6f7091d7f9666ff4f1c6.jpg

Bandai Beetle

I've got that, I think it was called Bug Bite.Ā  Mine is in pretty good nick, I think I still have the clip on lasers somewhere as well. It has 'Beetle' decals on each side. I always liked this as a kid as it was a 1303 like the late model ones that were still plentiful at the time.

One gripe I have is that when put together side by side the Volvo is slightly longer than the Jag, whenĀ in 1/1 the Jag should be slightly longer! Hmpf! Either AutoArt fucked up or Ottomobile fucked up. Or maybe online specs site fucked up and I need to find an XJS to verify.

Send me the length and width of each via PM

Had a bit of a stock take the other night with my Superkings, apart from some that are megabucks like the JCB or the short lived motorcycles, Iā€™ve probably got 80% of them, not all the variations obviously but Iā€™ve resigned to not trying to win that battle. Itā€™s just the odds and ends Iā€™m trying to pick up.

Just back from a trip to Dumfries, one of the charity shops had a large display of small diecast in the window. On closer inspection very little to interest me or that I didn't already have, but these two Siku came home with me. A bit scruffy admittedly, but good enough. There was also a metallic green Audi 200(?) which turned out to be missing a door so that stayed where it was. I had the Opel as a very young child but it was a darker metallic red than this and was always missing one rear wheel. In another shop window was an unbuilt Tamiya Monte Carlo Mini kit which I probably ought to have bought, but I only had some pocket change about my person. Already got one as well, but when did that ever matter?Ā

Those are both excellent models. I wanted both as a kid because they were in my 1988 Catalogue but ended up only with a MK3 Escort GL and a Passat.

Pssst. Keep this info to yourself.Ā

If you're in Nottingham check out a place called Parallel Universe in the city centre. I went in there this lunchtime to get my fix of my other obsession (retro games) but I noticed a box containing a tonne of worn out old cars.Ā

I picked up one, went over to the store owner and asked how much he wanted for it. He told me every car in that box was a quid.Ā

And so here we are - Ā£2 for two cars. We have an absolutely fucked Triumph Acclaim with a smashed windscreen, smashed rear light, neither remaining door mirrors and a suspiciously chewed tow bar. And then we have a significantly less fucked Majorette 205 GTI which is just missing some side trim.Ā

Absolutely no clue whether the Acclaim can be salvaged but my aim is to turn the 205 from some sporty, rally decal clad GTI to a povvo XE.Ā

The Volvo is spot-on at length and width for 1:18 scale

The Jaguar is 1:18 in width, but 1:19 in length.Ā  Boooo.Ā  Stunted.

OttOmobileĀ wins!

Yes they seemĀ to write their company name as OttO for some reason.

Nice dedication to the late Ryu Asada on the box and license plate of the SVX.

20211005_192919.jpg

Yes, it's also a bit more than that as Asada owned three SVX in his time

A Pearl White [267]Ā exampleĀ was his first car, purchased when he was a student at Pasadena.Ā  ApparentlyĀ he regretted having to sellĀ it.Ā  This was represented in last years Matchbox release.

Untitled.jpg.27fcdd48ecb5bb18a8f1ca359a14a192.jpg

Once he returnedĀ to the US after his internship with Peugeot, he boughtĀ theĀ Liquid SilverĀ [249] example.Ā  The ClaretĀ [265] came later as he was fond of the colour (a rare one at that) and at one time owned them both.Ā

His yellow Honda S2000 and red Honda(Acura) NSX were also represented during his time with Mattel.

The SVX looks like it would lend itself well to a custom respray. Likewise the Ford Hot Rod could be a base for a California Kid replica @eddyramrod?Ā

You're probably right about the SVX, but I'm afraid the Ford is all wrong for the California Kid.

The model is of a five-window 1932 Coupe; the car in the film was a three-window 34.Ā  There was a 32 in American Graffiti...

...which at least is a five-window of the correct general shape, but notice the film car's engine is exposed, whereas the model's isn't.

Hot Wheels did a 34 years ago, with exposed engine sides, and I have one I painted up as the Kid.

Seen here with the modern HW Plymouth that I've painted up as the Sheriff's car!

Quite obvious colour differences in the Bandai Beetles

20211006_112253.thumb.jpg.90c003cfcd1408f3c52a93975093a01b.jpg

And some production changes underneath. RM version just says Bandai Made in China, VW has the full script and then Made in Singapore, donor has BandaiĀ Singapore then the script

20211006_113147.thumb.jpg.ec99dd5a15e0217ba37a71e99d7a0238.jpg

I was having a read on the history of these and it's a bit confusing with name changes, release dates etc. All three are essentially the same though so I'll be keeping the ROBOMACHINES and VOLKSWAGEN versions. Donor bumper has had a rechrome and will go on my original car
