Generally the older, boxed stuff like this tends to command an asking price of £25 - £35: kinda outside my impulse-buy comfort zone, and possibly yours too. Maybe that helps!

Honestly, if I'd woken up on Saturday morning having got you to pay anything near that for a plastic sailing boat that I really don't need the day before, I'd be having very very stern words with myself.

When I bought the Schabak Granny, I also bought this 1:43 escy at half price. It disappointed me like a Mk5 should by having some significant paint imperfections in the bonnet. German quality eh? So like any true sorry for even being alive Englishman, instead of complaining, I'm offering it here for £3 + postage.

Anyone know what the second screw thing is for?

There were a few others included that weren't in my collection - and the obligatory Site Hut Truck. Nice to see the tracks still on the Stalwart

I was also going to say no tracks.

One  screw was for the fixing the rear box on the floor. The other I have never seen. I thought the police should have a switch for the light.image.png.e2feb4bffdc11c560463dede2b9196f3.png

Right, where was I?

Yes. Beautiful Days festival and the tub o' cars at one of the crusty-flavoured wig-out hippy stands.

I got as far as showing you the Mercury station wagon with dags:

20210828_175245.thumb.jpg.80db99b0a4d00e4953db4f21927d5db3.jpg

It's sporting just the right degree of playworn-ness, I reckon, and wears it 50 years or so reasonably well.

With that and the K-12 Hercules Mobile Crane procured for two sovs on the Thursday afternoon, I did my best to ignore the tub o' cars for the rest of the weekend.

Through Friday, I succeeded. Through Saturday..... I mostly succeeded.

Come Saturday evening, while walking past, "a quick peer into the bucket can't hurt, can it?"

So a peer was had. It had been raining fairly heavily for much of the day, and the bucket had been fairly thoroughly ransacked but there was still a good three inches depth of tat in there, albeit very soggy. The paper Laing stickers on the K-12 would have been done for had it lasted in the bucket for that long. Much of the remainder was made up of post-Millennial Hotwheels and no-name Pacific-rim nonsense, so I was happy enough to walk away, until, just as I was turning away to follow my wife towards the next act, in a "I have nothing on my mind but having a fun evening of music and frolics with you, my sweet" fashion, I caught a glimpse of a very distinctive roofline.

A Citroën SM. Could it be?

Desperate to show the resolve of a proper grownup who wasn't absolutely obsessed, I told myself that if it was an SM, somebody else will be grateful to pick it up. Why must I have all the nice things? Let somebody else have a chance. Perhaps some poor child, down to his last quid and with a feverish Citroën obsession to nurture.

Sunday morning, sharpish, I was back at the tub. Because of course I was. I dug deep. The selection was depleted still further from its condition on Saturday evening, and the remainder was still mainly underwater. I churned around, wincing at the thought of more vintage Lesney paint being chipped away. Would I find that SM?

Nope.

But this jumped out at me as a consolation prize:

20210828_175230.thumb.jpg.0287d367cc4a0a4e57f6a0bb3261fecc.jpg

20210828_175209.thumb.jpg.9e8aaca80333e6b3d1765ece795e7436.jpg

A wildcat Dragster (first-gen Mustang Fastback) in a fetching shade of hot pink that my Samsung doesn't quite do justice to. It's really not in the best of nick, this one, and I hadn't actually noticed that the rear screen has suffered a brick dropped from an overbridge at some point. Tow bar (why?!) would be decidedly unneffective, too. I like it, though, and just couldn't leave it there.

So I was happy. Well, happy ish. I didn't get the SM, but this would do. I got my quid out of my pocket.

One last rummage can't hurt, can it?

20210828_175342.thumb.jpg.d5afa20c20e0f65ec6afa166fb409231.jpg

20210828_175325.thumb.jpg.cbac3685c4e744fe0ea4db559eb78a3b.jpg

Result! I hadn't imagined it after all. As if that extraordinary windscreen and c-pillar shape could be mistaken for anything else. Right at the bottom of the tub, inverted and drowned, there it was. Again, not in perfect fettle; the roof is missing a good quarter of its paint, the tow-bar is just as fubar'd as the Wildcat's, and one rear wheel is doing a reasonable impression of a fault oleopneumatic suspension system thanks to a bent axle, but it's otherwise straight enough and the glazing is intact. I dug another quid out and left contented.

Absolute gluttony. That explains the Wildcat and SM, for I had originally been happy enough with just the Mercury and the K-12 — the latter being the absolute star of the show.20210828_175401.thumb.jpg.a19559f507a9ae0ccd90e85bd77530d1.jpg

I bloody love this thing. As I said, I know that these odd license-free fantasy creations were pretty cynically conceived, possibly leaning quite heavily on a sort of quasi-Thunderbirds Gerry Anderson vibe to inspire play, but I would have absolutely loved one of these as a kid, perhaps to complement my SuperKings Peterbilt dump truck. I don't even hate that it's modelled to that strange in-between scale that early SuperKings complied to: something around 1/50, were I to make a guess.

20210828_175414.thumb.jpg.aee87ab64c7a173f9e3f4d5ed90c7e69.jpg

I love how this one has survived. It can't have been very heavily played with, it's as close to perfect as makes no odds; perhaps it was in some giffer's display cabinet for years. The guy running the stall told me that his toys were mostly scored at car boot sales where he was often invited to buy job lots. I wouldn't mind betting that the Mercury, Wildcat and SM were originally owned by the same person, being that they're of similar ages and conditions. Could the K-12 be, too?

Who knows. It's mine now. And about bloody time.

That's a Corsa D. Only Corsa C models that crop up on eBay are the Minichamps versions, which come with correspondingly high price tags, lovely model though.

Maybe, or maybe everyone has cleared out all the junk they noticed stuck at home during lockdown.

I didn't go today but I'm tinkering with a couple

The Corgi Mogs are actually pretty good in terms of detail. Shame about the one piece base and interior but you can't really see it anyway

The contents are all boxed-up and sitting in a cupboard down at my office. Already got thoughts on how and where to display/store stuff at the new place  - just got to get some issues resolved and make sure we get there otherwise I've done a lot of sorting and packing for nothing.......

During the week the kids bundled-up all my unbuilt kits. Like with the magazines, I find tying them with string like this to be the easiest way of getting a large number moved quickly. I'll be moving them down to my office and/or the container, so due care will be taken and I don't need to find a load of boxes.

I have left the workbench* intact so I can try and finish one or two kits off before we go........

This Eunos is the most likely one to make it across the line, might even make the most of the Bank Holiday and finish it off today.

*The workbench is an old drawing board. Sadly this probably isn't going to survive the move, but the flipside is I'll end up with space to work on kits etc at a desk inside the house.

They do seem to belong to people of a certain age.......

The RH one is hopefully going to go onto the landing, so I'll see it with its prized contents every day! It's a bit of a family heirloom.

The funky one on the left may end up on the wall above my planned new hobby desk, as the legs can easily be removed. If so it'll probably have mostly built kits in it, and maybe some of the Corgi/Majorette collection, perhaps with the addition of some LED lighting. I'm hoping  to get another cabinet or two up on the wall in the garage, although with the Laurel, magazines and a lot of other stuff fighting for space in there that might not work out.

Almost every time I find a cabinet I'd like in a charity shop it's usually the one thing in there which isn't for sale..

Anything between £20-£50 on buy it now, I have seen them go lower on auction, but it's very rare they come up. There's been one on ebay forever with a Greek seller with an optimistic £110 asking price...

If you want LED strips and transformers I have a bin full of them liberated from shop rip outs. They're built into an ally strip and cat be stuck on with double sided tape.

I'd recommend putting them at the front of the shelves behind a thin trim of wood to hide them unlike here

Found a few things today

Corgi Autocity Electronic Garage20210830_143511.thumb.jpg.8c608a2de6c31df854ae6cad6ce12614.jpg

This came up for free on FB Marketplace while I was in Wetherspoons having some breakfast. It was only 5 minutes away,so I went & picked it up while Miss_155 did the shopping. It looks complete,I'll try & set it up if I can make some room😁

There were 2 bags of diecast as well, but they had already been taken 🙁

Then we went to a local fun day event. This normally has quite a few stalls but it hadn't been very well advertised so they had about half the normal turnout.I still managed to pick up these though20210830_143806.thumb.jpg.047c2d9999769320cb678fea11ecadab.jpg

Golf is plastic with a friction motor,Corgi Rockets Mercedes has been squashed, but always good to have spare wheels.Matchbox Mercury is interesting 🤪
