CBA to rummage about in the stinking hot loft looking for cars, so here's a slightly shonky collage of Matchbox, Majorette and Polfi Toys Renaults. Colour choice is a popular one it seems

17.jpg

So it was only Majorette that got the rear corner windows correct then

Green Ferrari please! Thanks for your efforts.

Sure thing - I picked it up with you in mind, but the paint's not brilliant. Happy to add it to your box, though!

Glad they all showed up safely! I was bumping right up against the 2kg parcel limit - to the extent that I had to remove a handwritten note just to save 5g.

Enjoy!

Corgi Fiat 1800

Yeah, I've now gone back and added in some of the commentary on yesterday's post that was lost whenever Chrome took a hissy fit, so there's a bit more explanation about what things are and why they might be noteworthy.

Hopefully it reads as a bit less grumpy now.

Been to Car Boot today, apart from initial idiots managed to score a Corgi 1/36 SD1 for £2 and a decent Senator for £3. I had a Senator as a kid but it’s was rough and long gone in any case. The guy was selling off his childhood collection which was sad. He had loads of seventies Matchbox for a £1 a piece but I’d got them all, I’ve decided to break out of this habit of buying duplicates cause they are tidy. Unless it’s something exceptional or better than the one I’ve got then I’ll leave them. I’ll post a picture later, I was late for the pub.

Wasn't entirely sure if I'd be able to make it in to the market this morning, but got up a bit earlier to sneak through the doors at 7.45.

Nemesis was already there, and bagsying vast amounts of diecast. He did say hello; he probably thinks I'm a right grumpy so-and-so, and to be fair he's not wrong these days.

So there were last week's Lesneys at £3, with a few additions I didn't recognise, plus a fresh batch of 50s/60s/70s/80s Corgi and Dinky at £10, which seemed a bit overpriced for most.

1220729744_IMG_20210716_0746122.thumb.jpg.66e6364c2e216902894ff2bcf3e2d20d.jpg

I did type up a lengthy live report, but Chrome then decided to refresh and eat it all just as I finished, except for the first five lines - just to taunt me.

With no time to re-type (and my smashed phone screen with blacked-out areas making it difficult to type anyway), I'm afraid I gave up for the day.

However, here's what there was today:

1745719351_IMG_20210716_0746263.thumb.jpg.2d2eead577c4cd9aa57ca5170ffa55ce.jpg

This Corgi Lincoln Continental limo was in good nick, and complete bar the battery cover underneath. One of the few that was worth the asking price; however it was snaffled by Nemesis.

920747030_IMG_20210716_0747472.thumb.jpg.457b31d18769f7ff34eea3c13d65c15d.jpg

Dinky Range Rover was in excellent shape too.

2129232043_IMG_20210716_0747352.thumb.jpg.61a75b7f8b20efb877431f6597a92560.jpg

Land Rover also good, though missing its ladders.

101255577_IMG_20210716_0754202.thumb.jpg.1584a139489c1abc98f89ec69b398dc0.jpg

These messily repainted items looked somewhat less worthy of a tenner, though...

923727846_IMG_20210716_0748172.thumb.jpg.83d4bb597c58afb59dbb45149b08eeab.jpg

Early Chevrolet Astro with red pre-Whizzwheels was a curiousity, though the engine cover hinge was broken, sadly.

1472088887_IMG_20210716_0747102.thumb.jpg.da86a367596d1729d8241ff2d897cb8e.jpg

Rambler Marlin was one of three on the stall; the two red versions had, like so many others in this collection, been dickied-up with rally-style waterslide transfers by a former owner.

1143415423_IMG_20210716_0829372.thumb.jpg.4fccac054bf3a1fc1d92971208ff24c0.jpg

The third was a two-tone silver and white version with a roofrack, and looked to be nearly pristine.

180680612_IMG_20210716_0748353.jpg.48bde3d67d4afa6e5f350f37ec663e48.jpg

Also swiped by Nemesis. I believe this one was originally part of Corgi Gift Set 10, packaged with a pair of kayaks and a trailer, and is pretty rare since it was only on sale for a few months in 1968.

This Herald had some bumper issues...

1417129043_IMG_20210716_0831252.thumb.jpg.f16e179bddb0c63b39a533a5290614e0.jpg

Mustang Fastback in silver is a rarer colour variant from its first release in 1965; the stickies aren't original here.

1719115514_IMG_20210716_0831082.thumb.jpg.710850d64bc20947bd195dd169f6cd4e.jpg

Fiat 1800 is another unusual one - as well as being the first Italian car in the Corgi range (in 1960), it's in this odd two-tone pinky-lavender shade.

1282373714_IMG_20210716_0830592.thumb.jpg.c7bbcef7ec7277edfd8070f30c004123.jpg

According to the big Van Cleemput book, these were painted mid blue, although "also known in light tan". This one is deep purpley-lavender on the roof, and pink on the body.

A quick look online shows they do exist in the shade, as well as other colour variations like mustard yellow, so I doubt it's worth squillions. Nice model, though.

1187403395_IMG_20210716_0830472.thumb.jpg.5798c31594355928f983bb95d12e5222.jpg

Mod-ified Imp (ho ho) would probably display ok with the stickers off - and, crucially, at half the price.

No real change to the Lesney boxes from last week - a few gone, but mostly the same items.

1608322741_IMG_20210716_0830312.thumb.jpg.a480c077d1aace21ea8d69ed6f113e50.jpg

There was a solitary 1/36 Corgi there, too - a French-market Pug 505 fire chief car.

732027709_IMG_20210716_0747222.thumb.jpg.2678330f1eb958bb7dd57c723c7b124c.jpg

Very good condition, but do I really need a third variant of this casting...? Probably not.

Not sure who makes this RM model, or even if it's that old, but it's huge at about 18" long.

2070548460_IMG_20210716_0746052.thumb.jpg.0c0e7db7aac8656f50387aaa023c19c9.jpg

There was also some Days Gone stuff kicking around, but no-one's here for that, are they?

869685572_IMG_20210716_0749182.thumb.jpg.fd083118fa6fe88fc197ad128a0a638b.jpg

So that was about it... nothing really on the other stalls, apart from this big (1/12?) Tamiya Renault F1 car on the Charity Stall.

1023871294_IMG_20210716_0828092.thumb.jpg.73aaf46e4d59e14f76c4cd725bf5490c.jpg

I did come away with a couple of Lesneys, but again couldn't shake the feeling that the only stuff really worth the money had already been snaffled before I managed to get through the door.

1637343480_IMG_20210716_0827112.thumb.jpg.aec391a2a2526287c54a2b41874b8bae.jpg

If anyone's keen on the red-hub Ford GT, Ferrari Berlinetta, or Austin A55 Cambridge, they're all available at the £3 paid.

**BERLINETTA SOLD!!**

I've come back and re-edited this from yesterday with less of a humpy-head on: I can appreciate that the original post might have come across as needlessly abrupt, and can only apologise.

I'd really wanted to put together an upbeat market report and I think I had; so while losing half an hour's work might not seem that bad in the grand scheme of things, on top of a disastrous few weeks at work and at home where it seems I can do absolutely nothing right, the mobile browser fail kinda felt like another boot in the nads just when I needed it least.

But anyway. Ups and downs, hey? Cheers to everyone who PM'd me, I'm not in an unmanageable funk; just a bit down in the dumps.

(Which is something of a misnomer as a turn of phrase, since I loved going to the dump as a kid, ditto scrapyards - in fact, they were probably the places I was happiest.)

So! Better things to come? Here's hoping.

Til next week!

I would have liked that 505 and some of the other Corgi and Dinky stock, but if he really thinks he's going to get a tenner each for them, he's going to have them a very long time!

I could have had a tidy one today for £2. The guy at the car boot had a mint Corgi Professionals Capri for a tenner. Cheap for what it was but it’s not my bag.

20p bought this, partly because my nephew has my old one sans a door. He’s only 2 and a half years old but he’s obsessed with cars, he’s got a box of stuff that I had, to play with at his grandparents. Unlike a lot of toddlers he’s actually really caring with his toys,  bizarrely as his parents are the least car people you could find. Any how it’ll do to fix his.

His only interests are Tractors, cars and asking for beer. At least one day I’ll have someone to hand the tools to...

Nothing much new at the local Morrisons apart from these,

Normally I'm not into big money supercar type stuff, but I liked this version of the R35 when I saw it previewed. Nice colour and it's good to see a fairly complicated racing livery with front and rear detail too, rare on HW.

Then, the more 'standard' version of the R35. With the dreaded 'Then & Now' branding, which means there's probably going to be a grey Kenmari 2000GT or R32 Skyline to hunt down later!

No, I think you did well enough there.  Total investment of a skinny, for two models over 35 years old, in pretty good condition.  Not to be sniffed at.

There was an SD1 in similar condition, a duplicate, should have bought it to flog on. But minus eBay fees the point would have been none. I prefer my models to have been cared for but slightly tatty to show they’ve been enjoyed.

I can't recall if we've ever discussed these before?

image.thumb.jpeg.f5a4935bd8ead2726720addc5a4688e6.jpeg

I think this one is 1979, I've had it since about then. Has surprisingly little in it that ties in with the Matchbox range of the time, just this one cartoon as I recall. Don't know if they did any other years.

image.thumb.jpeg.6092f62934c00a4b05a2669a01684a1a.jpeg

I'm trying to avoid buying anything at present with the house move hopefully due soon, but I did pick up the Matchbox MX-5/Miata (No. 58) and MR2 in the week when I had to pop into a Tesco. I got the RHD, headlights down version of the Toyota.

The new Hotwheels castings of the last 5 years or so are brilliant. Great detail, almost like models if you want them to be.

@cms206 told me about Raya Asada and how he really transformed what Hotwheels modeled. Being in his early 40s, recognised that there are some guys out there who are never too old....

Sadly he passed away earlier this year so I wonder what future releases will now look like.

I'm back from a very hot, busy boot sale. Too hot for comedy pictures this week, just wanted to get round and home to cool off. Lots of sellers but not a lot of bargains, often the only ones with die casts are the same ones every week with laughable prices. One seller always has loads but I've been put off by his prices previously, this week I picked up an unusual Matchbox Trick Shiters hot rod, complete but with the usual wear. Five pounds! Sod that.

Full report shortly....

Couldnt agree more. I still like to collect stuff like classic muscle cars from HW (preferably without flames and outlandish paint jobs) but they've really come into their own the last few years with factory style classic and modern JDM and European cars.

Diecast Collector did quite a good obituary to Ryu, his influence has been plain to see over the last few years as you say. Hopefully the range will carry on the same way.

I too am in receipt of a Cogbox containing some Belfast Bargain Buses. On the left is a Jinling (I assume the same company that made the Field of Dreams ATV) that just needed a clean and a few small chips touching up with a paint pen. On the right is a Guangzhou Bus, a little more battle-scarred but still quite presentable, both of these Chinese buses being by Checkmate. The poor old ABC Models Metrobus in the middle hasn't fared quite so well - it's filthy inside and out and the driver is sharing his cab with a giant dust ball, and on top of that it's suffered a fair bit of damage to the top deck, a shame as it was probably okay when Market Blokey bought it but got wrecked by other buses piled on top of it. Still well worth the pittance paid though.

Checkmate_Metrobus.thumb.jpg.2ed8a53af1b963e3281d481cfc6ac54b.jpg

I'm still puzzled by how these buses from the other side of the world rarely seen in the UK ended up on a market stall in Northern Ireland, but it was a pleasant surprise when @Datsuncog found them there and I had to snap them up. Thanks again Tim!

A bit of a mixed bag of finds today, starting with the small.

Matchbox BP Autotanker was something I'd not picked up before

20210718_11280820210718_112817

Corgi Juniors Range Rover

20210718_112646

First of two new things from the stall I pictured last week, Hot Wheels Ferrari 308

20210718_112610

Initially I thought this was a Tonka, but it's a Lintoy

20210718_11251920210718_112527

A whole 10p each for these Majorette commercials

20210718_11245020210718_112418

Also in the 10p bag was this Superkings Ford LTS tractor

20210718_11221020210718_112215

I've been eyeing these up on eBay, usually in green with the stickers coming off. This one seemed worth £3

20210718_11211120210718_112131

Didn't recognise this at all but it's marked Hot Wheels,  presumably a Mebetoys casting?

20210718_11202620210718_11203320210718_112041

Picked up a couple of Tonkas for a quid each. Yes it works, yes it sounds awful

20210718_111920

This one will get repainted, hopefully the glass will sand and polish up nicely. Guessing it should have a bumper but looks good without anyway. Love the slot mags!

20210718_11143720210718_111443

Almost didn't ask about this very basic (and very dusty) 959, as boxed = £££, but it was 50p

20210718_11155620210718_11164720210718_111652

Bargain of the day has to be this Bburago Range Rover though. Missing the roofrack and one tail light, but still looks pretty good with all the opening bits and tilting seats - just 50p too

Seen a couple of signs for a Saturday one, used to do Boreham then go on to the lazybones one that started at 10 but we have my partner's two young grandchildren with us at the moment and I don't think they'd cope with an extra couple of hours - and neither would we!

Times like this I find myself really missing the Wednesday morning sale at Marks Tey. Didn't bother going to Dumfries this morning as we slept in and there's too much needing to be done around the place anyway. There's only one man selling any diecast and mostly too new for me. There's supposed to be a decent one in Glasgow but I can't yet be arsed to get up early and drive for an hour to find out.
