I probably oughtn't to ask having had a good one last week, but is it Tat Friday?

Ehhhhh... well, it seems that since last week was so profitable, Market Blokey's jetted off to his private island in the Maldives. Or something.

Friday, yes. Market, yes.

Tat - no.

Most disappointing, you'll agree.

Hopefully all's well with him, though - he did say last time that he'd see me again next week, so this doesn't appear to be a planned leave of absence.

So I've been kicking around the market with a degree of disgruntlement, and sadly there's not much else to interest.

The Junkman, normally adjacent to Nostalgic Collectables, has a few carded Hot Wheels of recent provenance.

The Irish Tat stall over the way had the usual small array of Vanguards and Oxford Diecast, and it wouldn't be the first time I've sought diecast succour from their wares when Blokey hasn't showed, but I'm not really feeling it today.

I hadn't seen this set before, though at £70, they can keep it.

1614831066_IMG_20210604_0811232.thumb.jpg.50dfd1db2a7f5618c09ca9de6a92c479.jpg

Paddy's Overpriced Market did have some new items: this mahoosive 1/12 Jaguar XJ220 by Maisto, for one.

1064040669_IMG_20210604_0806482.thumb.jpg.39d5b119b5dddacc5a15e77ef93c803a.jpg

Doubtless, he knows what it's wurf m8, and has it priced accordingly - although I expect he has it book-priced against a real one.

And it's missing a spoiler.

This semi-novelty was also fresh in:

1153910203_IMG_20210604_0806512.thumb.jpg.7d3f81ffc2aa9d774062dc171fa0c166.jpg

No prices, and predictably enough no-one around to ask. But, if you fancy a good laugh, I can make enquiries.

The Charity Stall had nothing at all of interest, save a very large Tonka crane truck, while both Alan and his Emporium seem to have gone AWOL, as this is the third week on the trot he's been absent.

So! In an effort to cheer myself up, I went and got a salted caramel latte from the decent coffee place on Oxford St, only to discover I don't really like salted caramel lattes after all.

A morning of disappointment all round!

I'll be heading back over shortly, just in case Market Blokey's alarm didn't go off and he's rushing through the doors in his jim-jams with a load of Spot-On under his arm, but I sadly doubt it...

Oh well. Next week, tat fans?

How did you get the newer paint off?

A combination of gentle application of brake fluid, autosol, soap and water, cocktail stick and sharp craft knife. The process did create some of the damage you can see above, as the paint was very well adhered and thick in places. All it needs now is a new front number plate from model supplies...

Those enormo-scale XJ220s are peculiarly uncoveted on eBay. I'm rather fond of mine, which was only a few handfuls of quid, despite its lovingly giffer-crafted wooden plinth with genuine gold-plated growler inset.327171bc57811a99ec5fadbdc1dff958.jpg

Heh, when I swung past for the second time, Paddy himself waylaid me... he's looking £20 on the Jag, because "it's a Jaguar, you know", and "they're worth £100 new".

Oh really.

By 'new', I imagine he means 'as new', as in 'boxed, and not with the spoilers and mirrors all busted off'.

And I still don't believe him...

The 'Las Vegas' Lincoln stretch limo was a tenner, despite broken glazing and the plastic roof coming away from the rest of the body. No obvious manufacturer, but I could just make out a stylised 'S' on the base behind some of the packaging, which was still screwed on.

What can I say; the lad's an optimist...

Well I managed to visit 5 charity shops in a row whilst in Lincoln (I kept Mrs.Socket quiet with a grab bag of Nice 'n Spicy Nik Naks). I found ONE die-cast which I picked up for £1 if anyone's interested (I can keep hold of it as I do plan to have a clear out in the future). It's a nice enough model with a metal base, rubber tyres and opening bonnet.

I also spotted these two Hot Wheels whilst queuing in a Tesco Metro and picked them up.

By the way, Lincoln is a lovely place. Shame it's 2.5 hours away but I did manage to achieve 65.6 MPG on the way!

Lincoln is nice, my daughter is at uni there. Those Gone in 60 Seconds Mustangs were in Poundland a few years ago

I got the next Corgi. Very nice it is too

Good interior detail

Skidplate is a lovely touch too

I'm hoping one of the next ones will be something I own, so I can compare old and new

After a tip off a few weeks back from @bunglebus I sat on my hands for a while, until of course I buckled! This then prompted a matching unnecessary ebay purchase! Now I have a few of these awkward to display Schabak 1/24’s (two I’ve had over 30 years!) and now I have more!!! So here we have the new additions:

Schabak BMW Z1 and a brace of Scorpios

The Z1 seems very accurate, bar oddly far forward seats and a windscreen  top rail that somehow never got pressed in production. Doors slide up and down, straight six looks lovely too, it’s a really nice model 👍

The Scorpio’s I’ve detailed on these pages before, but this one has blue trim something I’m sure we were denied in RHD? Who knows!

The next Scorpio, with mystery box still in ‘transit’ mode has an extra ace up its sleeve…. Can you guess????

Yup opening boot!

Thats VFM on the opening parts-O-meter, the 4x4/RS alloys are spot on too. You can’t tell but it’s a greenish blue - tourmallad? - in the flesh, really rather fetching.

So the best bit? £9.98 each for the Fords, everything Schabak goes 50% off in the basket, so  @bunglebus I owe you a pint, except I’m skint now 😂

A jaunt to Tesco ensured I didn't end a Friday diecastless.

Some new stuff added to the tubs...

1449671420_IMG_20210603_2033332.thumb.jpg.9fd5e7f6f4085b4f6b3a9a6a6da93832.jpg

Plenty of yellow Cadillacs in the Matchbox tub; also some MR2s with lights in the upright posture (still haven't seen any with them closed).

1327366322_IMG_20210603_2035112.thumb.jpg.27e242d49e9c4dedc38c498c911afa57.jpg

A few premiums from the UK Collection still on the pegs.

36785446_IMG_20210603_2034172.thumb.jpg.3ef04510e445ca10b754fd1926d798a7.jpg

Hot Wheels pretty much the same stuff as last time.

1135627944_IMG_20210603_2035202.thumb.jpg.ad66943cb358d214082fe7980a78552e.jpg

Plenty of their Car Culture premiums left, too.

1356954784_IMG_20210603_2034112.thumb.jpg.824bd187949bfe7a162d566555a9d138.jpg

I'm waiting for these to hit half-price; surely, at some point...

(Oh, and @bunglebus - yours are on their way!)

I'd left MrsDC browsing the books, and slunk off to bother the diecast in secret.

Unfortunately, she knows me all too well and had little difficulty in locating my surreptitious activities in the toy aisle - which she likened to watching "a rat going through a bin".

Hopefully she meant this in an affectionate way. It was probably my fault for hissing at her when she suddenly appeared at me elbow, although in fairness I hiss at anybody who comes too close.

So I left with these...

753787400_IMG_20210603_2254082.thumb.jpg.a0ad022c700070aa316ff1f425a1d8be.jpg

I already have the pinky-metallic version of the Caprice from a few years back, but it looks good in the pale green too, I reckon.

The EmGeeBeeGeeTee is the first one I've seen, and was also the last one on the pegs. So obviously, I had to have it.

Ah well - one of those weeks, just. Better times to come!

For heaven's sake! I didn't know that about the Mister Two, I bought a lights closed yesterday with a view to repainting it - I'll have to check all three now. Tesco Hatfield had both versions yesterday but didn't know to look closer...

I only found out the other day! I need to check my stash, think I've got one closed lights and two open but not checked the interiors.

They all use a LHD wiper sweep as far as I can see but there are definitely LHD and RHD interiors. Apparantly they also have an engine moulded into the interior also.

Bah! And I thought I had a result getting hold of an eyes-open MR2 to go with my sleepy one... Gonna have to check what side drive they are now!

Just got this one from B&M, I do so like the '70 Camaro casting. But it's a Then & Now job, so I have to hunt down its 2017 partner now before I can rest!

Sigh....

Also finished up the pearl over blue Corgi Mini Bus, with the Gerry Anderson vibe as others have mentioned.

I always felt the seating arrangement was wrong, it looks more people carrier size to me, so this has a scratch built interior including inner arches, seats out of several Minis and dashboard out of the spares box - silver for that space age vibe. Pink inserts in the seats go well with the pink pearl which really pops in the sun. Doesn't photograph well though. Lots of lowering and wheels off a pull-back car
