A worthwhile jaunt to Tesco, as it turned out..

New singles case had indeed touched down.

Nine-packs also available...

And a fair few species of five-pack still on the pegs too, at £5 each.

Didn't go clean buck daft with the singles, but happy enough with what I came away with.

No Capris, as it happens - I did look through the whole dump bin, just in case.

Does the MR2 have flip-up headlights? Just noticing that they seem to be raised on the unboxed example that @Split_Pin posted, but they're flush to the bonnet on mine.

Apparently there have been two versions cast, one with headlights up, one with them down. Yay! So that's two to hunt down...

Need to get provisions on my way home from work tonight so may swing by the local Tesco's. Not expecting owt though...

Damn, there were a few left in Tesco tonight I should have checked. Got to have both versions!

If anyone's stuck for a particular version of the MR2, also happy to go back and check the shelves! I'd heard that the T3 crew cab came with or without a load, but didn't know about the others...

I'm getting vibes of buying music singles in the mid-90s where 'CD1' and 'CD2' would test whether you were a real fan, by encouraging you to buy the same thing twice by dint of a slightly different cover and b-sides...

Of course, I always did...

Your MP possibly has a hush-hush arrangement with the store manager, and is buying boxes of mainline singles out the back door to flog individually on eBay.

Full public enquiry NOW.

Plan of attack now, hit the Tesco in Dinnington on the 22nd when I’m assured by the note on the shelf is getting a delivery Saturday 22nd. If that fails I’ll go to the Chesterfield one which usually turns up trumps. If that fails I’m going to have to start taking hostages.

Personally, I'm getting a little rattled that Charlie-boy was seen sniffing round the market only a few miles away today...

If he decides to extend the visit so he can nip to St George's on Friday, and then assume that he's got first dibs on the £2 EFE buses and that scratched-up Corgi Pacer due to Royal Prerogative, he'll have to go through me...

My Brother got jammy at our local Tesco's. He brought both versions without realising till he got home!

He kindly also brought me the only other remaining MR2 and the Chevy, 500 & Holden. Result!

I also managed to get myself a HW RX7 from my local Home Bargains. Wasn't much else to choose from though. But pleased to add this one to my growing HW collection.

Edit: If anyone wants a MB Fiat 500 or a Black Mazda MX-5, my Brother has some going spare.

Well, as predicted, bugger all apart from a couple of the Cadillacs and Caprices. No MR2, Holden ute or CLA wagon, which I was hoping for.

Ah well...

I'll have to get the hairdryer on it later

Now - I'm not especially into monster trucks, but I do like VWs, and I think a bit of wee came out in Asda when I found this, there just aren't any in the UK it seems. The previous blue version seems to have missed us entirely

You want one? £3.50, delivery at some point in the distant future!

I just use a cardboard box tilted on its side. I chuck an old sheet over the 1/1  car in the garage and spray on my workbench.

I have various bits of wood that fit up inside the body of the model to raise them off the ground for spraying. I have a turntable somewhere at Parents_Pin which Mutha_pin used to use when working on pottery many decades ago.

I just put mine in one of those helping hand things and hold that. I do all my painting outside or at least in the doorway of the outhouse, I have got a couple of high power fans I can use as extractors if I decide to build a booth, but I find holding the casting allows me to get paint under the wheel arches and inside where it's often visible

That's very good of you Eddy, yes please, if you're passing, and yes, if you spot an MR2 and a Mini-Cooper, so much the better!

CLA and Holden obtained!  Also 3x MR2,all in daylight mode, for those who want one.  Andy, I forgot you wanted the Mini, sorry, but I'll be going out again tomorrow, I expect there will be one left.

Hot on the heels of the blue Dinky Beetle(s) I found recently, I grabbed a later 1970s version

20210520_161126.thumb.jpg.66e01fdc68fded870289b068b3b9050a.jpg20210520_161225.thumb.jpg.038083998da0997d05220b971666f7cd.jpg20210520_161152.thumb.jpg.666a16d0ee7d9cad507215cd68f7e647.jpg20210520_161157.thumb.jpg.6e78369b1aa6f4097525bb53901878bf.jpg20210520_161235.thumb.jpg.2f80503b7d6eac798f7690f8c22e3db2.jpg

Now I'm not 100% up to speed on the kit versions of these Dinkys, but I'm pretty sure this was supplied as one going by the paint finish and blobs on the base and inside the glass. No evidence of any other colour inside either.

20210520_162221.thumb.jpg.c9d987b770999a1b1e77bcaae44cd410.jpg

As it screws together, the excess paint is easy to remove, and I fitted the axles back under the springs too. Even the deck lid stays closed now for the most part

What a lovely pair

20210520_163638.thumb.jpg.d6dd23a9cc05f4e98149ead437cb0093.jpg

There's also nothing to stop me repainting it, maybe I'll even crack open the Humbrol for correctness.

Also noticed the bases and bodies are different, red one is retained by a screw and a lip on the body, blue is held by three rivets with no lip present
