Was naughty and bought one.  But it was only £1.40!   Was an odd figure to find on a buy-it-now, so grabbed it.

It's die-cast but no country of origin stated, very likely China like the current Welly range.

The proportions are pretty good, but something odd going on at the front

20210130_152500855_iOS.thumb.jpg.f1bc609d2e6baa7aee45cd2ecc0c071f.jpg

The rear light clusters are going to get someone's eye out

The doors open to reveal a dashboard.  With an odd wheel.

The bonnet reveals an engine, of sorts!

So how does it compare to the current model Mini Cooper 1300 by Welly?

Well, Welly, for starters you made things bigger back then

20210130_152703144_iOS.thumb.jpg.e912d53d9a62fed2eb33b34a458e6496.jpg

They measure to 1:28 and 1:26

Both have pull-back motors.  So who won the standing start race across the kitchen lino?  It was the red one, absolutely flying into the skirting board.  The silver one barely made it.

Wife showed her disinterest.

Welly's Mini evolution was featured* too

Sometimes this hobby is as frustrating as it is interesting. Having bought a K-6/11 with a good canopy, I thought I must have at least one duplicate to sling on eBay. Nope. One has no winged Honda sticker on the pillar, one has no bonnet sticker. Maybe they got peeled off, not really worth worrying about

Then I look closer

WTF Matchbox, why did you delete the steering wheel and mould it into the dash? The other non-engine one has a black base, so that's different too

20210411_140309.thumb.jpg.4243219a9a4aa3a0192c0781aff3e65d.jpg

Then I notice the side stickers differ too - two go over the vents in the rear wings, two don't

Now it's Corgi's turn to frustrate me - not only have I not got a duplicate colour to paint purple, I've just noticed the base/grille arrangement changes at some point

20210411_142946.jpg

The ones with the grille as part of the base are marked Corgi Juniors, the others are just Corgi or no name

I was going to say that the purple one has a plastic grille & yellow seats. The beige one with metal grille is one I haven't got(I think). Then there's the wheel variations.....

Mine only have two types - the split 5 spoke job that was on loads of 80's Corgi:

20191026_133724

(forgot to include that one) and this one with the earlier 5 spokes

20191026_133719

There's these as well,on the later versions20210411_182828.thumb.jpg.408c2c3532484053d0584e2381bbfeb6.jpg

I think your white Castrol version with beige interior is quite rare, most of them seem to have black interiors.

I always found the bottom variant of wheel to be much less attractive.

What's happened to the roof on the orange one? Looks like the back end of a banger that's been pulled out.

Hadn't really noticed until I looked at that pic, probably had a gentle stomping from some little darling

Just noticed you have a black one too,is it original or a repaint?

I'd say dark grey, but as far as I know original, nothing under they grey and hasn't been apart

I'm always amazed at how quickly this thread moves on and how interesting it is. I could spend all my free time just reading it let alone if I wanted to post something!

So back to the Corgi Minis...

I had a look in the loft and remembered that  several boxes I had of old toys had been tipped into one large box by someone who wanted the smaller ones, hmm.

So here is a selection of bits of old Corgi Minis I could easily find with a few other makes just because...

IMG_2438.thumb.JPG.81245f4f07749f79af945ccba0139f8e.JPG

I'll just point out a few things...

The green Manifique looks a bit sad and I haven't found all of it, but pretty sure it would all be there. I'd forgotten I painted bits black and white.

Behind that a Police van stripped of paint and minus one back door, the complete one behind that was bought for a couple of quid in Lewes.

The red Countryman was originally torquise and the missing doors were replaced by a young me with one large door.

The black and red Morris was pale blue and the yellow Austin was red. I did have a marroon one and black, red and wicker one as shown by @MarvinsMomabove, but must be in another box I didn't come across. I also thought I still had the corroded remains of a Monte winner, but again not found.

The red No.9 is an Airfix slot racer and seems to be the only one I have left as my mum chucked the rest of the set out when my parents moved house (and I still haven't forgiven her!).

The large blaze orange model is 1/24 (?) with no makers name I made as a replica of my first car, while I still had it.

This is a newer Corgi model made of the same car with a Corgi Metro replca of mine in Emberglow...

I bought a nice Countryman for Mrs Concern to put in the summerhouse a few years ago...

Another 1:24 scale completion. Honday Today by Tamiya, started off like this complete with the motor installed*:

1:24 Tamiya Honda Today kit

1:24 Honda Today kit

It sat in a tub of brake fluid for a few weeks to get rid of the enamel paint. Fortunately all of the limited parts were present in the box, so once it was back to bare plastic it was just like starting a new kit.

1:24 Tamiya Honda Today kit

1:24 Tamiya Honda Today kit

And with other small car builds:

I think it should have a yellow plate as a kei car, but the first ones I tried broke up and I only have a limited number of them.

* @flat4alfa, I have a bit of a stockpile of these motors now, FA130 would they be? Any use to you?

I picked up this lot this afternoon. They all need wheels/tyres,but they should all be available. The Lotus needs a windscreen & a seat, but I haven't looked for those yet.20210411_180756.thumb.jpg.4ee5a8e2267d4941a9b8a9d7b6ee1f5a.jpg

Consider this an "Emergency only" offer, but I do have some wheels that would fit both of your Golden Jacks cars.  Can't quite tell what the remaining wheel is on the Oldsmobile...  Tyres for all the other cars are all standard fare, you should have no trouble.

Lotus: good luck.  I've been looking for a pair of seats for one I've restored, for ages.  Windscreen, I just made one.

I'd quite like to see more of that, looks interesting. Like the Beetle, a zillion manufacturers have had a go at the Mini, with varying degrees of success!

Late Corgis aren't bad castings

20201022_125348

Polistil is as good as the newer Corgis

20201204_173211

Hongwells are pretty smart but always have broken bits

20201005_165840

Kintoy is fairly average Chinese pull-back, 6 in a tray in the gift shop fayre

20200210_122409

Sunnyside is similar quality but bigger

It's a long time ago I did it so can't remember what it was like before I mucked it about, not even what colour!

I remember my younger cousins having a lot of Corgi cars with those chunky wheels that always seemed a bit too big for most designs.

Tyres all sourced now. Golden Jacks wheels can be bought, but at a price,do you have any that would fit the Oldsmobile? Not too fussed which wheels they are, think they're all.the same size apart from the Rolls Royce & the Marcos?

Lotus parts can be got from Steve Flowers, but they can wait for now.Somewhere,I have the remains of an Elan coupe, not sure if the screen from that could be made to fit.

I have a couple of wheels that I think are correct for the Olds; does it have more than the one I can see?  At the same gauge all I have (mostly) is Minilites, but there was a wider gauge at the same diameter which I think was fitted to Corvettes just before Whizzwheels appeared, and those are the others I have around me.

This is a Polistil.

Interestingly, each window and rubber are separate parts. You can't tell from your one as its been painted, but the roof panel is a separate die-cast part too.

Wheels were always revolution.

My granny had a green one at her bit which I could play with but not take home. I always grieved a bit for it every time I went home. Then one day she said I could keep it, I was ecstatic.

It had quite a few parts missing so in the early 1990s I fitted seats and a gear lever from a DAF truck, and a steering wheel from an old Corgi Luggers set. I made headlights from plastic and together with a missing rear light. Paint was nicely patinated so left alone.
