Shite in Miniature II

It is indeed Tat Friday™, So here's some tat;

First up, found another of the tiny Hot Wheels cars. Can't find out a lot about these but some have a cell battery and lights

20210305_121812

Dug out one of Poundland's finest batteries

20210305_121429

It verks!

20210305_121421

That jogged my memory that these were in a recent lot, McDonald's happy meal cars. One has a wheel underneath that pops up for wheelies, the other two should light up, but they never do as the batteries are dead and sealed into the holder underneath

20210304_155531

As I had the batteries out, it would be rude not to attempt a fix

20210305_121343

Great Success - borat | Meme Generator

Just as I was finishing fixing them, postie man arrived, gave him an easter egg for delivering my boxes of junk. Today's box contains;

The big Corgi Buick. got some chips and missing one dome light, but not bad

20210305_12212920210305_122143

Corgi police Jaguar XJC, this one's really nice and even has the aerial intact

20210305_12185320210305_121920

Finally - the Corgi police Rover SD1. Told you I was after one, and this one's a gem

Today, some MG Maestros were played with.

The yellow ones are Corgi 'Corgitronics' and are in working order again.  The paint-chipped one deserves a repaint in red.

The blue one is a Scalextric that tends to be pretty expensive to buy, so this one is being resurrected from spares after getting hold of the bodyshell piece from off here.  Reproduction mirrors and taillights are on order, but the glazing piece is proving elusive.  But it a runner again.

The scalextric Maestro is spot on for looking like a Maestro though. On a slot theme, have you seen these ALL NEW OLD SKOOL FORD X-pack Escorts?

I’m not a slot guy, but I could be very tempted!

Go on, be tempted to be a slot guy! 😄

I was told that when Team Slot came out with that, the resin scratch build body market in Escort II fell to dust!

This is one of the bodies I picked up at a show for pennies as a result of that

Then subsequently put it in too hotter water to clean it.  The paint bloomed.

Here are a couple of oddballs that just arrived. Doesn't take much imagination to see where the castings are copied from. Going to on my unloved toy cars Facebook page to try and get a make for them

Also included was this rather tidy Clipper

Plus a Corgi Corvette with an actual opening part

I'm sure everyone's familiar with the Maisto VW camper (usually spelled "CHAMPER" on the base - but not always)

20191202_15063420191202_150648

Quite obviously a copy or re-use of the Matchbox version

VW 009_zpsjnq9e0qy

But this I hadn't seen before, so I needed to obtain it

20210306_13055220210306_130456

Still got CHAMPER on the base though

20210306_130512

Pleased with this one as the Maisto only seems to come in white, and Edocar isn't often seen in the UK. Now I need a Maisto with the CAMPER base

I must admit, I did a bit of Googling first before buying the GTE, as I couldn't work out from the listings images whether it was a period release Solido, or a 1990's re-release; the latter wouldn't interest me one jot, as I'm a total snob. Quite partial to 90's Vitesse models though, particularly if they're of contemporary stuff.

Anyway, mine is not in the best of shape but was from memory, less than £10 delivered, so again, no bank accounts raided. It also ties in with the condition of a real one at its low ebb of market value, which is way more interesting than 'freshly restored in the USA'.

Dare I say it, that Vanguards casting does really show up how crappy the older castings are, in terms of realistic proportions. Certainly, the Mk2 Astra SR I picked up mint/boxed for £4.50 is a little belter:

49101684213_00cbebe8f7_b.jpg

I also like the fact that Vanguards are based on real cars, too. Not quite sure anyone's done a good rendition of a Mk2 Cavalier though; I dislike the skinny axles of the Vanguard effort, plus I'd want an early series one rather than a facelifted version, truth be told.

And yet saying all the above, I still prefer older castings! AND YET! I bought this thing:

50994496346_cf5267dffd_b.jpg

A Vauxhall Sintra - CD spec, nonetheless. Seen here either in some ancient European town, or Luton; it's hard to tell. I can't even remember who made this. Gama? Schuco? Whatever, I lobbed a bid on the starting price of $1 (50p) and won! Funny, that. All in, I think it was £3 posted, so a curio for the price of a takeaway coffee.

Those tabs for the headlamps do it no favours whatsoever and it's missing the passenger door mirror but the general shape is as accurately  gloopy as I remember them and it's suspension is very nicely sprung. Even came in a tatty old box, too. If I ever make it back to the UK, I'd be happy to stick it in my luggage for some poor old sod.

The Vanguards Astra SR is one of my favourite models. Partly for the fact that the SR isn't a really obvious choice. But mostly for those wheels! The only thing that spoils it, and the GTE, for me is the rear ride height, which is too high for something 'sporty'.

Naturally the MK2 Astra is one of the few castings without sprung suspension so I can't adjust it...

That Sintra is winking at me, being one of the UK spec RHD V-grille versions. I'm sure I'd find it it a home if it came over here...

Agreed, that SR is lovely.

Some of the modern castings really do have impressive detail. I'm still gutted that our Mk1 Fez produced by Oxford Diecast is a tiddly 1/76. 1/20 or something would be  amazing.

Definitely. If Oxford did half their 1/76 range in 1/43, I would be a happy (and poor/divorced) man!

Otto do a Mk1 Fiesta in 1:18.  But you'll need a deep pocket for one. Because Otto.

Just had a look. They're lovely but that's serious dollar. I was really pleased with the OD Mk1 as my fiancée's first car was a terracotta mk1 1.1L Fiesta, so a pretty good match. Just wish it wasn't the size of my small fingernail.

Italian-made Dinky Volvo 265 DL in the scarce ORANGE has been acquired 😎

Quite pleased with this one, made a cheeky offer on it after a bit of chat with the seller

So, another box ticked for a fiver.  Here it is compared to the earlier English example with cast wheels.

However, Farmer Tom has been in the pub all afternoon again and is larking about.  Get down from there!

Thanks. I discovered the existence of the Mira Mk1 Fiesta thanks to this very thread; I've kept my eye half open with them for a while. However, I'm on a self-imposed buying ban currently so I need to avoid that BIN button! 😅
