flat4alfa
POST LADY HAS CHANGED. The nice smiley lady today is a lot shorter, but seems equally as strong, In a bulky box was this job lot. You are seeing them after a scrub. Rover has lost its stickers and steering wheel; those steering wheels seem to have a habit of that. The Rolls Royce Corniche HAS NOT BEEN SMASHED IN THE BACK. The (genuine) Corgi FX4 Taxi Cab has the interior divider, I think that was a sticking point before. Dinky Bedford TK has its stickers and is fully functional. The Fiat Strada is a Solido and despite the smart colour is a bit weedy in this company. What are they worth together I wonder? eddyramrod, Skizzer, AndyW201 and 4 others

Dick Longbridge
3 hours ago, MarvinsMom said: look what mr postman brought me this morning, with thanks to mr ramrod- and these came at the end of last week first up, the new matchbox MGB GT, and a jaguar XK, lovely. these go along with the Matchbox Austin Healy and Hotwheels Chevy Impala SS. The Healy is another lovely little modern matchbox, while the Hotwheels was an impulse buy from Morrisons. Funnily enough the Chevy is the first Hotwheels that i have bought, as you can see, the cars are still "carded" as i have not yet been able to bring myselfto open them up, if i did that, then they would no longer be in "mint" condition.. . the Batmobile and no name chinese mini came off this very thread. as a nipper i had, many, many years ago the Corgi Juniors Batmobile, looking on ebay these now seem to be stupid money so, been a skinflint, the modern Hotwheels is a cheaper, and just as nice, alternative. the non name mini had lost its front bumper save the front numberplate part of the moulding. as it offended me, i have cut the remains of it off. and i think it does look better. the mini is a difficult shape to capture though who ever did the tooling on this has managed to make a pretty good job at it. then i have also recently exhumed these out of the loft. the Bburago F40 i have had for many years, and the ERTL Healy too is now some years old. that one was bought as a CKD kit of bits, which i managed to put together without ballsing it up, amazingly!! a brief ebay trawl indicates that the F40 is pretty much worthless, especially without its box. maybe not Lledo "collectables" worthless, but not worth anything really. which is why i guess both of these 1/18 scale cars are still in my possession. i did have loads of them, but these are the only ones left now. not that when i did sell the others on, i got much money for them! the Healy though, well that one i dunno, that one it seems sellers are asking daft amounts of money for them, though asking for £100 for a toy car, and getting it, well those are 2 different things! it is a nice model though, and really catches the look of the Big Healy. still i do wonder if it should be something else that i should think of selling on...... I still have my 1/18 Bburagos tucked up in my parents loft somewhere. I too have the F40 amongst others. I will share a photo of my Mercedes 300SL as and when it surfaces. I painted it in a fit of teenage boredom back in the early 90s when I owned my mk1 Metro and had some aerosol paint left over from blowing in a bit of paintwork. It must be the only 300SL out there painted in BL mustard yellow 😅. andrew e, MarvinsMom, Split_Pin and 3 others 5

Jon
13 hours ago, sierraman said: That Siku Audi 200 is sublime. In the 80’s these were real quality pieces. I remember them being quite bloody expensive as well. I've got a silver Siku 200, which I got for Christmas 1987, when I was living in Germany. I also got a Mercedes transporter and a metallic blue Peugeot 505, as well as a bright metallic green BMW 6 Series, with skinny wheels. I chose them all personally from some big department store I'd never been to before (probably not quite as impressive as the one @bunglebus visited, though) and remember the days I had to wait until Christmas Day taking forever to pass, I was so excited! I was 6 though, in fairness. I used to get DM3 pocket money a week, which I think equated roughly to a pound, at the time. Every Friday, I'd spend DM2.45 on a new Siku and save the rest for slightly bigger models. That equates to 2.22 Euros today, or £1.92, so it seems they've always been a bit of a premium, even in Germany! @barrett posted some images of one of his needless purchases a few pages back, so I thought it best to post my version up, for comparison. Picked up this Joal Iso Rivolta a couple of months back, for £7.50 delivered to my door. Not a bad price I reckon, for something aged, unusual and most likely pretty rare over here. It also looked interesting enough for a punt but thanks to barret's post, I now notice the slightly crappy wheels and thick A pillars much more than I did previously. The colour is very nice though; dare I say it, better than the bright red? Mine isn't afflicted with a rear tow bar however and also has a quite nice number plate, too. Unsure if the yellow tail lights are factory applied or not but if they have been applied by a previous owner, their dabbling is neat and is certainly welcome. Doors, bonnet and boot lid open and there's a small piece of luggage cast centrally into the boot floor. And rather like our Brighton-based mini-shite reporter, I too don't collect flash car castings as a rule. However, it appears I have a few, some bought opportunistically during scale model droughts and others because I like the real things. I'd happily choose any of the above in a mythical rich person donation scenario but every time, regardless of it being only the second most valuable, I'd opt for the 250 GTE. They're absolutely my favourite Ferraris (though a 365 GT4 2+2/early 400 would be a close second) and top of the pile for a money no object dream fleet. I just don't think I'd look right in a Muira and dreams have to be based on some shred of reality, after all. Ah they're the Juniors versions - a staple of most toy boxes in the late 70s and early 80s. I should think quite a few of us have at least one version of this one lurking in their collections, my favourite being this "Pencil Eater" I acquired from Flat4alfa a little while ago The version I was refering to was the larger casting, like this one I picked up at a boot sale (remnember those?) for a couple of quid There are a couple of different colours and liveries, and the police version which I'd quite like to find, and Mr. Alfa showed in his post Split_Pin, AndyW201 and flat4alfa

Lord Sterling
Carlton vs Carlton. Sometime back I did a comparison of a Vanguards Cavalier saloon vs a Gama Cavalier. I'm now doing the same with these Carltons: As before, the Vanguards is much more detailed and fresher looking than the cruder looking Gama GSI 3000. You may note that I have 'improved' the Red GSI with a few marker pen touch-ups to make it look closer to a real one as possible, the latest improvements being the black bumper tops. I bought the Red Gama GSI 3000 years ago when I started seriously building my collectection of model cars. The Grey Vanguards Carlton was bought sometime last year for cheap. It had no box. andrew e, Datsuncog, RayMK and 6 others

The Solido 250GTE is definitely one I would like to add to the collection at some point I must admit, I did a bit of Googling first before buying the GTE, as I couldn't work out from the listings images whether it was a period release Solido, or a 1990's re-release; the latter wouldn't interest me one jot, as I'm a total snob. Quite partial to 90's Vitesse models though, particularly if they're of contemporary stuff. Anyway, mine is not in the best of shape but was from memory, less than £10 delivered, so again, no bank accounts raided. It also ties in with the condition of a real one at its low ebb of market value, which is way more interesting than 'freshly restored in the USA'. 30 minutes ago, Lord Sterling said: Carlton vs Carlton. Dare I say it, that Vanguards casting does really show up how crappy the older castings are, in terms of realistic proportions. Certainly, the Mk2 Astra SR I picked up mint/boxed for £4.50 is a little belter: I also like the fact that Vanguards are based on real cars, too. Not quite sure anyone's done a good rendition of a Mk2 Cavalier though; I dislike the skinny axles of the Vanguard effort, plus I'd want an early series one rather than a facelifted version, truth be told. And yet saying all the above, I still prefer older castings! AND YET! I bought this thing: A Vauxhall Sintra - CD spec, nonetheless. Seen here either in some ancient European town, or Luton; it's hard to tell. I can't even remember who made this. Gama? Schuco? Whatever, I lobbed a bid on the starting price of $1 (50p) and won! Funny, that. All in, I think it was £3 posted, so a curio for the price of a takeaway coffee. Those tabs for the headlamps do it no favours whatsoever and it's missing the passenger door mirror but the general shape is as accurately gloopy as I remember them and it's suspension is very nicely sprung. Even came in a tatty old box, too. If I ever make it back to the UK, I'd be happy to stick it in my luggage for some poor old sod. bunglebus, Datsuncog, AndyW201 and 6 others
