eddyramrod
Marital disharmony reigns, as increasingly usual. A parcel arrived from Mr Bunglebus of this parish, containing these: Three in, the other end of the five-out parcel I sent him. Naturally "she" went apeshit on my ass, threatening the very existence of the collection that has sustained me for over sixty years. She totally failed to see that it represented a fleet reduction of two units. However... the sharper-eyed among you will already have noticed the green one. Yes, the green Corgi Mustang, a model I've never owned in the fifty-ish years since its release. I'm showing it here with the Century of Cars version, since that was the closest to hand; they appear to be the same casting. Much less information on the base of the younger issue, but it's still clearly the same thing. So to Bunglebus: thank you good sir. Jon
Re: @Datsuncog and his estate car dilemma, I think that the most favourable marque that modelled wagons over saloons was Siku. Indeed, on some occasions they'd do both! A case in point was the W124 Mercedes, of which I had to find a photo of both castings together, to help remember that I had both in my childhood stash: EDIT: the photos I found can't be uploaded, so here's a link: https://www.swiftysgarage.org/siku-mercedes-e-class-w124-t62354.html The theme continued with the W210: And there seemed to be a trend from transgressing from the saloons to the estates, in later castings: The 2 photos above from the collection of someone who clearly owns a silver paint pen, is from this attached article, which may be of interest: https://twolanedesktop.blogspot.com/2018/01/siku-audi-and-volkswagen-sedans-and.html My surmising is that Siku was casting these mini German cars as saloons, since that was what the manufacturers were churning out. Then the 1980's happened and all of a sudden, estate models appeared that previously never existed - such as the Audi 100 and W124 Benz. So Siku presumably liked the idea of casting something entirely new, to entice the kiddies. On a more direct answer to your query, here's a couple of examples of castings I own, which were sold purely as wagons and not other variants: And a bonus non-Siku: andrew e, eddyramrod, Datsuncog and 5 others

Yes, they are 1/64, and are some of the fairly small number at that size that I've kept, for obvious reasons. I think it's quite likely that Corgi bought in a selection from JL, but I don't know. I remember them being quite bloody expensive as well. I think Siku still are quite bloody expensive - last time I was having a poke around in The Entertainer, they seemed to be about £5-6 each. Which is a fair whack, compared to the like of Hot Wheels... does anyone know, are they still made in Germany, rather than churned out in China? I do love Siku's subject matter, and that 200 is indeed magnificent. They still seem to be first and foremost toys (although I think their larger-scale agricultural stuff is tilted more at collectors these days), but that does result in some odd colour choices and bizarre scale variations, so not all of them display that well. I also find that, like Matchbox, the road car models seem to sell through first, leaving only a few sports cars, construction vehicles and the more toy-like trucks on the pegs. I bought up a fair few in the 1990s when the place I worked stocked a small selection, including the Mk4 'sad face' Fiesta, but didn't hold on to them. Still have a couple of 1970s ones, though. Keeping them! Split_Pin
bunglebus
As fas as I know still made in Germany, and very popular over there. The new stuff is nicely made but doesn't appeal as they make models of current vehicles with very few retro items such as the Karmann Ghia and Merc SL gullwing. Both with naff wheels. German department stores are amazing places to shop for toy cars, and I'm pretty gutted that I won't be going until at least 2022

MarvinsMom
look what mr postman brought me this morning, with thanks to mr ramrod- and these came at the end of last week first up, the new matchbox MGB GT, and a jaguar XK, lovely. these go along with the Matchbox Austin Healy and Hotwheels Chevy Impala SS. The Healy is another lovely little modern matchbox, while the Hotwheels was an impulse buy from Morrisons. Funnily enough the Chevy is the first Hotwheels that i have bought, as you can see, the cars are still "carded" as i have not yet been able to bring myselfto open them up, if i did that, then they would no longer be in "mint" condition.. . the Batmobile and no name chinese mini came off this very thread. as a nipper i had, many, many years ago the Corgi Juniors Batmobile, looking on ebay these now seem to be stupid money so, been a skinflint, the modern Hotwheels is a cheaper, and just as nice, alternative. the non name mini had lost its front bumper save the front numberplate part of the moulding. as it offended me, i have cut the remains of it off. and i think it does look better. the mini is a difficult shape to capture though who ever did the tooling on this has managed to make a pretty good job at it. then i have also recently exhumed these out of the loft. the Bburago F40 i have had for many years, and the ERTL Healy too is now some years old. that one was bought as a CKD kit of bits, which i managed to put together without ballsing it up, amazingly!! a brief ebay trawl indicates that the F40 is pretty much worthless, especially without its box. maybe not Lledo "collectables" worthless, but not worth anything really. which is why i guess both of these 1/18 scale cars are still in my possession. i did have loads of them, but these are the only ones left now. not that when i did sell the others on, i got much money for them! the Healy though, well that one i dunno, that one it seems sellers are asking daft amounts of money for them, though asking for £100 for a toy car, and getting it, well those are 2 different things! it is a nice model though, and really catches the look of the Big Healy. still i do wonder if it should be something else that i should think of selling on...... eddyramrod, AndyW201, Datsuncog and 2 others
