Talking of movie cars, I'm really tempted by this Plymouth Fury.

Working lights too 😁

It's available in several versions including junkyard.

Nice!  What scale is that?  I have a 1/18 Fury, which wasn't sold as a Christine which probably explains how I could afford it, but it is in the right colours.

Wow how did they get hold of that?

It's 1/18

It's also around a 100 quid, which along with the size of the thing is putting me off.

I took the plunge last month and spashed out £93 (cheapest on ebay from a UK seller) for one. It's a reissue of the ERTL Christine from 2004 with a better paint finish and extra detail such as imitation carpets. Only gripe is that it doesn't have a radio antenna (featured on the original model and pivotal in both the book and film) however this is usually broken or missing on the ERTL's that come up for sale...

Verdict? Pricey but should hold its money if you come to sell it.

I went looking for Christine on aliexpess (always worth a look for diecast) but got sucked down a rabbit hole.

Some oddball diecasts incoming...

Spotted down that rabbit hole were 1/43 Vauxhall chevettes, transits and other nasty conveyances.

Let this be another lesson in alcohol and internet browsing...

I picked this up cheap as it has a missing wing mirror (I glued one back on) half an aerial which doesn't look out of place on a modern car and missing tail light cover. Not easy to find but to make one shouldn't be a massive task, just need to find red-tinted plastic cover sheeting, cut tail light and glue on.

Getting Red x07 Peugeots sorted out seems to be a theme with me recently. I sorted out my own 407 and now have kind of sorted this out now.

When I first got the 1/18 207, its wing mirror was taped to the bottom, now glued back on and doing a marvellous job of being on display.

I decided to sort out the rear light lense that was missing:

As I didn't have red-tinted card, I took a small piece out of a Tescos bag:

Admittedly its not the best job, more of a few-feet-away job but its better than looking like its just come from copart.

Happy belated Christmas, miniature tatters!

Not much on the diecast front this year, though I'm always allowed a bit (that I choose myself). Usually it ends up being a recent Vanguards of some description, and this year is no exception!

A bit of an older release this time though.

IMG_20201227_010109.thumb.jpg.5ea9fae338275da43087d6cd63700a67.jpg

One from a good few years ago and one I was kicking myself for not getting before now. Round about the time this E30 casting was launched, Corgi were wandering a bit off their usual path, adding a few European 'neo-classics' to the Vanguards range, with the E30, Golf MK1&2, Pug 205 & 309, and even modern stuff like the then current Astra H, Range Rover L322 and Jag X350. Apart from a couple of exceptions, they generally bombed, and most of these modern classic type castings could be had with fairly big discounts when new. These E30s were no exception at the time (and there are still a lot of the beige MK2 Golf Cs knocking about unsold). Of course in the ensuing years a lot of the real versions of these cars have appreciated in interest and value, and accordingly, so have the model versions.

IMG_20201227_010224.thumb.jpg.2b4d59d4667c4bc56dd11f0f0bc236b4.jpg

I'm quite a fan of the Vanguards 325i in 2 door early M-Tech form. I really wanted the Dolphin Grey version, but at mingebag-budget level, beggars can't be choosers, so Lachs Silver it is. Look on eBay and you'll be struggling to grab one of these for less than £30-£50. However, I spotted this used one on auction with a few hours to go, and nabbed it for £12.50, which I was happy with. It's pretty perfect , it looks like its been on display in its case all the time, there's the tiniest crack in the clear case, a bit of a warp in the card outer box (repaired with a steam iron reasonably successfully), other than that it's perfect, with the collectors card inside.

IMG_20201227_010341.thumb.jpg.a7bf4cb6e1591d9d501d1d0b17d23c43.jpg

The E30's shape is captured well, with lots of the usual nice Vanguards detailing. This is the version with the M Tech1 kit, just one of the bewildering array of Vanguards E30s. You can also get the 2 door with M Tech2 kit, a standard bodied 4 door, a standard bodied convertible, and an Alpina bodykitted convertible. (They recently launched a green 4 door with green interior and steel wheels which I quite fancy).

IMG_20201227_010357.thumb.jpg.7ace434375d7e4393545212c648f5cec.jpg

Great detail on the front end, lovely detail on the badging and the kidney grilles, the headlights and auxiliary driving lights are brilliant, and the number plate font also makes me happy!

IMG_20201227_010435.thumb.jpg.5b152b9c2d6832e55df2e89bd74543ff.jpg

Not so pleasing on the rear, nice spoiler, good tail lights, and nice to see rear headrests modelled, but the rear skirt seems a bit big and 'blocky' to me. I had a mate years ago with an M Tech kitted 320i and can't remember it looking like that. And this is another Vanguards with a separately moulded exhaust with solid bloody tailpipes which look shite.

IMG_20201227_010721.thumb.jpg.96af8fd5ba4b6af93c2cc2e6bc1d5a38.jpg

Interior is sadly regulation '80s German coal bunker, so it's hard to photograph, but the sculpted Recaro sport seats can be seen, and pretty good detail on the center console/armrest/shifter.

Just awaiting the new-tooling Vanguards Mk4 XR3i that I pre ordered one of, back in January, and seemingly retailers are just getting hold of now. Will hopefully make a nice late Christmas pressie...

That's a good looking model, maybe a bit of carefully applied black paint on the tips of the tailpipes?

A recent find is this Lone star Ford Corsair.

Sadly it's been repainted, and it has a fake door, the latter I didn't realise untill I got it home.

Still it was a nice find,and I don't have one,so it's a welcome addition to the collection.

Quite easy to build, coming along nicely.

I was tempted to leave it as a civvy van bit it will be more interesting as a Police vehicle in the long run, plus the Range Rover is definitely going into that livery.

There's an optional chin spoiler which I'm going to fit.

I should have kept quiet about the quality of Italeri kits.

The windscreen has the appearance of a Fox's Glacier Mint. It has no edges, only blobby, rounded lines and it's a terrible fit.

IMG_20201228_091636.thumb.jpg.77a118ac2959ffdccc92ebb1080a358c.jpg

Even resting overnight, the glue wouldn't hold it and it came unstuck again this morning. Back to it tonight.

Looks ok otherwise at this point.

I'll have to watch out for that when I do mine.

Whenever possible I avoid using glue to fix any 'glass'. PVA is good for securing it if the fit is OK, but cement/superglue will cause fogging. I prefer a little bit of Magic Tape if there's a bit of overlap and it won't be seen outside.

Looking good otherwise though.

I'm currently working on a '67 Impala with a '90s Corvette engine upgrade:

1:25 1967 Chevrolet Impala kit

Trying to keep it looking quite low-key outside, painting it ARG Sandalwood Beige.

Well I built my “Licensed to IP theft”  Lego/Lepin Bond Aston.

I quite enjoyed the novelty of the build actually, lots of totally unnecessary hidden detailed parts of the build and quite a therapeutic amusement whilst gorging on chocolate, nibbles and random drinks as I progressed (well it is Christmas!)

A few negatives - this isn’t Lego and you can tell. No real lustre or shine to the bricks, flashing marks  on surfaces and 50% chance of the bricks having a real positive ‘click’ . If you swear blind Happy Shopper spam is exactly the same as M&S gammon you will be fine - otherwise you might feel a little short changed (if that makes sense).
