I don't know - has no addresses for either Matchbox or the printers on it anywhere

I remember my mum looking everywhere for the ‘93 catalogue, we used to get them in Beatties or Toymaster. I think she even wrote to the HQ in Rugby to no avail. It could be a trade only copy.

That's the first piece of evidence I've ever seen of the Superkings 'World Sports' cars. Since buying the boxed RX7 from Datsuncog a year or so ago I have found absolutely no information on them. It's a really nice model, no opening features but 'L' registration plate.

I also recall nothing of Zylmex. I did have the crude-looking BMW 2002 although I don't recall any makers markings underneath. The only one I have is the Pinto from the Tat Stall® and it has to be the smoothest and most free rolling car I've ever had. It would have won a lot of races if I had owned it as a kid!

I think the Superkings were discontinued not all that long after this, the very last issue was the escort Cosworth and the Suzuki Samurai both seem fairly scarce.

I vaguely remember seeing a picture of the Escort online.

I see from the catalogue that about 60% of the items are from the 1980s or earlier. Imagine how great the trucks could have been if they had developed the range. A Scania P series, DAF 85 and EuroStar for the European range and a Ford LTL9000 and 'Anteater' Kenworth for the American side of things.

Zylmex is an odd one.Like Playart & Yatming, they were obviously sold here in some quantities, but I don't remember ever really seeing them?

Me either other than the later low quality ones at jumble sales etc. I don't think they were pushed very hard in the UK, certainly seems to be a lot more choice on eBay in the USA.

Most of the later releases don't have a maker on the base, but always have a code which is a dead giveaway like D32 or whatever

I think I've got an RX7 somewhere.I did have a very beaten up Suzuki Samurai a while ago,the only one I've ever seen apart from eBay.

The brown Camargue is finished! Just need to run some norn Irish plates up for it for the full ‘cashed in my endowment’ look.

You’d have to pretty well endowed for a Camargue, thes days. A long way above Paddy Plated Wedding Spirits.

That colour is very similar to the old Corniche I take to Antibes each July, 264A7CBF-49AD-4302-A1C8-25F0E4D75FB6.thumb.jpeg.95430bc2d731fda685cbe670eea7b65e.jpeg

I have noticed boxed matchbox superfast selling for nowhere near what it was 12 minths ago. A sign of the times?

I daren't start buying them on eBay, or even browsing. I look forward to the day when I can get to a toy fair again and see if this is the case there.

Finished another kit at the weekend:

1:24 Tamiya Honda City GG kit

1:24 Tamiya Honda City GG kit

It was another of the batch that went a bit Dali on me.

1:24 Tamiya Toyota and Honda kits

1:24 Toyota, Honda and Nissan kits

Managed to grab a few minutes up on the flat roof to get some shots in daylight with the others I finished last weekend.

I thought of "Zodiac Killer" but then it IS a Zodiac so seemed not quite right - best alternative I could think of was "The Astrologer"

Bit late to the party on this one

I had the Suzuki Samurai as a kid from my favorite local toy shop, but stupidly sold it along with various model cars back in the early 00's.

It was Bright Red with Gold stripes, had white wheels. Suspension was nicely sprung and had opening doors and possibly bonnet? Although didn't come with a roof.

Had a Superkings Range Rover in Green from the same shop and a Ford Sierra RS500 in race livery which I also sold. 🙄

EDIT, just found this plod version of the Suzuki Samurai on ebay if anyone interested!

Scanned the 1994 Matchbox catalogue. Pretty underwhelming this one, partly as by this time I was having driving lessons so toy cars weren't on my radar, partly there's much more plastic in evidence and the traditional small stuff isn't given a lot of space. Still pumping out that Superkings Plymouth Gran Fury though! I think a lot of toy cars from this era aren't very good, Mattel were pumping out a lot of generic stuff too. Things have definately improved in recent years

I spent more time trying to work out what the cars were getting squished by the monster trucks than looking at the rest of the catalogue - any ideas?

I'm guessing that the white car is a Pontiac fiero, red car look's GM ish too. The yellow one might be a poor copy of a Suzuki Vitara? Silver car some sort of NASCAR and no idea on the red pickup.

One clear advantage of owning a really popular automobile within enthusiasts circle.

Found this for 60thb (1 pound 50). Worth it for "my toy car, my real car" gag.

Looks a lot better with some added detail as well.

I am considering taping it to the dash to remind myself of what my car looks like when driving.
