Anyone for some Friday market tat...?

Well alright then...

My two arch-nemeses were already at the Tat Stall by the time I came puffing and blowing through the doors (frustratingly, the only entrance that's currently open is at the opposite end of the building from where I dump the car, so it's an extra detour). I could only watch in frozen horror as one lad made off with a very, very nice Dinky Ford Corsair in metallic red.

Some new stuff up top, today...

Yeah, the gap beside the police SD1 marks where the Corsair was. Corgi Pontiac ambulance was pretty good and complete; Dinky Plymouth taxi missing its sign but has the slightly better mid-70s wheels with metal inserts. Corgi Mercedes van in so-so condition, marred a little by a stuck sliding door (I'm after one of these).

Matchbox stuff (and others) seems to be an arbitrary selection of tat-grade stuff that's been inexplicably elevated to top-shelf status (and, possibly, pricing).

Dropping down onto the lower levels, then:

Familiar Bond partworks back again (but not the Rolls Shadow, and I did ask about that one) plus ropey Bburagos, Corgi Turbos, Lledo and other modernish stuff that didn't really catch my notice.

Probably about £3 for the stuff here.

Then, another lot appeared - again, same as previous weeks:

That mid-70s Bel Air cop car without lights is back; still think a fiver's a bit of a stretch though.

50p tat was there in abundance, too:

Inevitably, the really nice stuff has been taken already (mostly by me, in fairness), but there's still interest to be had rootling through the tub.

Regular wheels Lesney Ford D Series gritter has had a rough time of it; Flying Bug missing its wings.

Dodge tipper has been repainted in matt red; Super GTs are typical toybox fodder.

BMC Farina has a squashed roof, sadly. Majorette Citroen C4 is one I used to have, though this one has more than a few battle scars.

Ergomatic was in reasonable fettle; GT40 needs some tyres but otherwise reasonable.

Repaints, bashed and incompletes galore. But I held back - for the most part.

Moseying up the stalls, though... bit more diecast this week.

This was on an 'Irish Gifts' stall - Corgi Classics Belfast tram for £20 wasn't a bad price - think I sold mine for more ten years ago.

One of the antique stalls had these, too...

These were possibly of interest to certain persons here...

Pretty good nick, but £20 each... the stallholder was quick to quote eBay prices at me; he knows what they're wurf, m8.

Charity Stall had the same as last week, less a few buses...  both Buddy L Chevy pickups still there, though couldn't get a pic due to eejits blocking the way.

But on circling back round to the Tat Stall, wonders had arrived...

So yeah... I did do a bit of a deep dive into my pockets for two of the French Dinky for my own collection - the Ami and Panhard - but if there's anything else that tickles you, let me know ASAP! On my final lap now before I need to scoot...

I couldn't resist the Dinky 2CV in the end. These are beyond gorgeous, and will be staying for the time being!

Most of the marks on them seem to be attic dirt, so looking forward to some gentle scrubby-scrubby later...

The Panhard 24 must be a tad more valuable, I really like that.  Well to be fair I really like the real thing!  That is until one I was sitting in was started up and the two-pot broke the illusion of a swoopy body at speed.  But, still.

They're great, aren't they? But yeah, I think I'd sooner look at a Panhard than drive one... indeed, they're not quite giveaway prices this week, but I reckon I'll not make too much of a loss as and when I move these on. I was sorely tempted by the DS too, only the persished tyres at the back can't be replaced without drilling off the baseplate... the Dinky caravan was also a beauty, though I couldn't work out if it was a repaint or not... just some odd overpaint here and there.

I was also low on cash, since I paused at a stall selling handmade Irish-linen based textile gifts, and ended up drawn into a conversation with the stallholder... and because I'm a sucker for a hard-luck story, ended up buying this with the tenner that could well have been a caravan...

Yes, it's a face mask, and I already have plenty of those... but the ex-works rally Sunbeam is actually owned by the stallholder,  so after getting the chapter and verse on its history, plus a soliloquy on how the collapse of the tourist trade has devastated his stall, I thought it'd be rude not to, since that was why I'd paused...

It was Richard Bradford as McGill, aka Man In A Suitcase.  (Cue that excellent music and let's throw some shapes!)  I have a feeling I've used a green that's a bit too light, his car may have been a bit darker, but it's the green I used on my Volvo's wheels, which means it's what I had in.  And come on, who else do you know who has a model of McGill's Imp?

Hey @Datsuncog if you ever want to move that Ami on I would give it a very good home! I've been searching for one for a long time at a reasonable price...

That's a really good haul there. The Panhard is a lovely thing, one of my favourites. Anyone who hasn't driven a Panhard might be surprised at just how well they go. I've had our early Z1 up to 90 before, which isn't something I'd like to try in a contemporary British family car...

Bought mainly for the Volvo,I've got over 20 variations now ?.I'm also pleased with the TR7,& the plain Range Rover is a casting I didn't have.I reckon most of these may have come from a multipack because of the plainer non-metallic paints Corgi tended to use towards the end.

No, the Jag wasn't as clean as all that - quite a bit of chipping to the roof and wings, and missing the jewels from the headlights. The pics definitely flatter it!

Stratos lacks an opening engine cover which is a bit mean

But this takes the cake. Broken rear spoiler and paint coming off thanks to the bloody price label do not diminish my pleasure from finding this for £2

So then, I s'pose it's time for the second part of Friday's fun - what did I arrive home with to make MrsDC roll her eyes this week?

(Perils of home working, y'see - in times gone by, I would have had all this photographed over lunchtime at my desk and not needed to spread it all over the dining room table...)

Well, there's this one for starters: one of the Bond partwork models (made by Fabbri, or so the internet tells me?) of a GAZ Volga M-24.

It's a wee bit scuffed here and there, and something's been broken off the front wing too.

While my feelings toward James Bond is mildly ambivalent at best, this isn't a bad rendering of the archetypal KGB-mobile.

I do have an actual CCCP rendering of the Volga in 1/43 scale - with opening everything, including back doors and a removable spare wheel - but it's kinda crude and blocky, somehow. I'm planning a display of all my Soviet stuff, so I'll see how they all display together before deciding what's staying and what's going. So it's a keeper, for now!

 

Then there's this Oxford Mk3 Transit, which looked a bit lost on the stall...

The reason it's sitting funny is because someone couldn't find their precision screwdriver set, and so broke the base plinth apart... and the screws are still in there. But that's good, as I have a few Oxford still in a box but with no retaining screw.

I do like these 00 scale commercials, so I guess this one's staying for the moment, too.

 

And a further one for the selfishness count is this:

I've owned a couple of these regular wheels MG 1100s now, and I keep selling them on. But  also really like them, so I think I'll hang onto this one.

 

Then, from the depths of the 50p box came these two:

The Corgi Juniors Leyland Terrier isn't one I've owned before; the labels are crap but the paint's not bad.

The Gloster Saro tanker trailer would have originally been supplied with the Mack R-type tractor unit. Now, I used to have one of them in the appropriate olive green - but alas no longer. I do however have a white version which only last night I was thinking looked a little lonely without a trailer. This'll do rightly.

 

Now, two that are up for grabs are these:

That's a mess.

It was a Matchbox Road Blasters 'Turbo Force', aka the very long-running Mercury Park Lane. One of the antique-type stalls had this, alongside a banjaxed Dinky crane for £20.

Surprisingly, he did this one for 25p.

Trashed... or is it?

While it's definitely been subject to the sort of inhumane treatment that would normally get Amnesty International's hackles up, at the same time the red paint might come off... the roof is bent, but could be returned to shape... and the glazing is bent back on itself, yet not actually broken. Even the wheels are undamaged - straighten the axle and a dab of chrome pen

Exceedingly brave resto? If you'd like to have a crack, you can have it for free.

Also 25p was the Super GT rendering of the 1970s High Tailer Can-Am racer. Not in brilliant shape, granted, but available for the price I paid!

 

Then we come to the late arrivals, which persuaded me to splash the cash. The French Dinkys.

Ohhhhh.

Well, there's good news and bad.

The good news is that they mostly responded very well to some isopropyl alcohol screen cleaning-wipes to remove the years of ingrained dirt. They're not pristine, but they are very nice examples.

The 2CV has some light rubbing to high points, and weirdly had some chocolate encrusted round the back lights and bumper that took some cleaning (at least, I hope it was bloody chocolate).

Sits a tad high at the front - Citroen gasser, anyone?

 

The Panhard is an absolute delight.

The windows that go up and down were a surprise. Such a nicely proportioned model, though there's a few rough patches to the casting.

I can't tell if this has been touched-up, or if this is factory finish?

Either way, it's glorious.

 

The Ami (or 3CV) is also fantastic, although this is where I came unstuck...

There were a lot of stains all over these models, not least several big blobs on the Ami's roof. They seemed to be proud of the paintwork, and the more I rubbed at the marks with my little isopropyl wipe, the smaller they became, until...

AH BALLSACKS.

Yup, I rubbed right through the white paint up top, revealing the pistachio green beneath.

Bugger, bugger, bugger.

And it's otherwise so nicely original... other than some corner chips, this is in great shape. Or, was.

Even the bent-wire front rail is still perfect.

Really cross with myself for being so heavy-handed - I thought the mark was just something stuck to the roof. It seems that it's right through the paint, instead. Didn't think a lens wipe could actively dissolve paint. There's a lesson.

But! I'll try not to let this mar everything. They're lovely things, all the same. The tyres have some flat spots where they've clearly been on display for many, many years - I'm sure there's a story there. I hated to break up the set, but I couldn't afford them all. The DS, the caravan, the Dodge Coronet and the Mk2 Jaguar would have been in my pocket too, if funds had allowed.

So! Worth the journey in, I reckon... and hopefully there'll be a chance at visiting next week, all being well with the world... seems that Belfast's becoming a bit of a COVID hotspot and I overheard dark murmurings from traders about a shutdown, so I guess it's in the lap of the gods, hey?

First time I've seen a civvy version - I had this CHiPS example from childhood, though, now living in the wilds of Scotland.
