Ze Germans take a different approach, showing various kinder playing with their toys, rather than individual vehicles. Farm equipment aside, there's lots to like here YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!! This is PEAK nostalgia for me - I won't have seen that in about 25 years but I lived in Germany in 1987/88 as a 6/7 year old, so naturally, DM2,95 of my weekly DM3 pocket money was splurged each Friday on a Siku, from the local Divi supermarkt. As a result, I have quite a few of the range in that catalogue - I stopped counting at 50...! Really interesting to see that they were still plying out the 70's casting of 911s alongside the much more modern versions; they're only a handful of the car castings I didn't buy. Not sure if I ever saw them even, as I liked the skinnier wheels of the older models. From memory, the Passat Polizei wagon and R5 took some finding and I've a feeling the Passat never left Germany, as it was always the toy I'd be looking for but could never find. Anyway, good things come to those who wait, so thanks again! Here's hoping I can get back to see them all in the UK come 2021. 1 hour ago, eddyramrod said: I'm seeing a couple of Peterbilts in that catalogue that might fit the beach-find grilles from earlier! Anyone got an example to measure? Already thought of that, Eddy! I checked yesterday (NZ time) and they're not a match. It's also not very 'Siku' to have an entirely plastic front end to stuff, either. The quest continues! Amishtat and bunglebus

MarvinsMom
all this transporter talk means i can repost some pictures of these. the corgi bedford TK transporter came off this thread. it was a sorry looking thing, that had been enjoyed vigorously in the past. eventually i did get it repainted. the end result while not perfect is more that acceptable for putting other 1/43 scale cars on. the matchbox scammell wrecker was a refugee from mr ramrods clear out. it too had been enjoyed in the past and was tired. so it got strippedand painted, though irritatingly i bollocked up putting one of the new decals on. ah well, these things happen, and i still love it. then last but not least, and in a very much smaller vain, there is this matchbox dodge wrecker. again its in BPslivery, as many matchbox toys were, i dunno if they had some proper tie up thing between them, or if it was viewed as free advertising by BP. i think back in those more innocent days, firms didn't get all pissy about toy makers using their corporate colours, that is something that would sadly become common later! I already had a Dinky Jaguar but nowhere near as nice as this, and the Imp is just lovely, albeit needing a tyre. The Corgi A60 is another I'd been idly seeking for a while and it's the nicest I've yet found if you overlook a tyre deficiency and a crack to the screen and rear door windows. Have you got plenty spare tyres? I have quite a large amount of smooth dinky tyres if you need any.

Jon
2 hours ago, bunglebus said: What, this one? 20200814_122648 by RS, on Flickr Aye, that's the one. I've no solid memory of mine ever making it back to the UK, so I think I lost it somehow. Being an older casting with skinny wheels, it was one of my favourites, even though I much preferred ordinary cars to emergency vehicles or liveried vans. On the one hand, I liked to make up my own mind what the 'job' of my cars was when playing with them but I'm now wondering if that was a precursor to my work-shy adulthood?! Sure, I make a wage and work is all encompassing when it arrives but the work finds me. I'm certainly not a networker and I do value my downtime, so don't often worry when the 'phone stops calling... Can anyone else derive any psychological flags from their childhood toy collections?!
bunglebus
Well I can remember fitting big wheels under the back of my Matchbox VW camper when I was at junior school, already into VWs and hot rods. Still into them and messing about with toy cars.

You'd be better putting the Riviera under the trailer! 401 V8 will easily have enough torque. Meanwhile, that's exactly the Scammell I need for mine. sierraman
I had a few of those Siku, the 750il and the Jaguar XJ40. Both really solid models. Can’t off hand remember where I got them from, what retailers stocked them? The ones I had were definitely bought new, in the days you could buy Matchbox anywhere both the local Post Office and the Newsagents on our Estate sold them. I can remember going in and getting a Laser Wheels Rover 800, I’m assuming these were more expensive than the regular ones as I didn’t have many of them. The same could also be said of this morning's boot sale, plenty of stalls but very disappointing for the amateur tathunter. Had to get round a bit sharpish on account of time constraints and very nearly left empty handed before finding this in a tat box at the eleventh hour. One of these graced a recent Tat Friday and piqued my interest rather, as I hadn't come across one before. A fair degree of camber each end and no bonnet gives it a slightly gasser look, at least in my eyes. Glazing, interior and tailgate are all present and correct so it didn't seem unreasonable for a quid. The front end makes me think of a Moskvitch with these slightly too-big headlamps. antony denman, flat4alfa, Shite Ron and 6 others
