I didn't quite manage it tonight, but after nearly 13 years what's another day?

The Z is coming together nicely, should achieve my ambition of starting and finishing it during my holiday.

I don't have many Lesneys in my collection, only the Ford Popular and Bedford TK Tipper spring to mind so I availed @Tenmil Socket of 3 of his. A Thames 400e, Bedford CA and 1961 Ford Fairline.

The Ford was crying out the loudest for a restoration so it was first in the queue.

This is the first and last time I'll try this 'Paint and Nail Varnish Remover' from B&Q as it appears to do very little.

The front axle was really bent so I carefully hacksawed off the stud at the end for future use and straightened things out.

It's a nice little casting with a lot of detail. I like this stage as you can really see the work that went into these toys at the time.

I decided that a Police car was more relevant than a Fire Chief. I might add more detail later.

I've not been well these last couple of days so I was surprised to have a steady hand with the silver pen.

The Range are doing discontinued car spraypaint for £4 per tin so I went on Sunday and bought a few. This one is actually Hammerite though as I was spraying some door handles for the house with it and those came out well.

I bought their Diall stuff and found it really good compared to the Wilko one that they haven't had in stock for ages anyway.

2nd Fastback is done, think I did quite a good job of rescuing the base with the chrome pen.

The idea was to replicate a rare variation, large wheel arches with narrow Superfast wheels. As such I again didn't get rid of casting lines or detail anything.

It's not quite the right pink but close enough

Bit quiet 'round this thread, we're usually rifling through a page a day! Hope you don't mind if I cover a bit more of my trip, then?

Pez shot. The car came with a full tank of gas but it doesn't have a fuel gauge (or indeed, any gauges; must be a base model), so I thought it best to fill up.

50187024847_8d614402a6_b.jpg

Then a quick, full American breakfast. Again, nice to see some dairy free options, so I had a soy sundae. Great stuff.

50182697328_36f33712ec_b.jpg

Then I had a little time to kill, so I did what any red blooded male would do and hit the high street, going in all the shops and trying on all the latest fashions, before not buying anything.

50186772141_8d1cff2631_b.jpg

Once satisfied that nothing fit and everything made me look fat, I was off to a matinee performance of Les Mis - I'd bumped into Alan Ayckbourn in a previous time travelling holiday to 1970's London and he'd raved about this little place. Indeed, it was a devine performance by all. Bravo!

50187024587_6796780381_b.jpg

Then in a show of solidarity, the summer sun got us both a little hot under the collar (mine was a wool/viscose mix), so car & driver both rested awhile for liquid refreshments. Did someone say beveragino?

50186224498_beb39eb0c1_b.jpg

After a quick nap, it was off to another undiscovered gem, this glorious little gallery, which really could give the Louvre a run for its money. It was largely renditions of kittens in baskets, mind; a perfect hangout for birthday card art talent scouts. Just so long as they don't loiter in the 5ft exclusion zone outside, during their negotiations.

50186772186_7eb5c9ddeb_b.jpg

Then off to bed for the night. Looked like a nice little place, all freshly done up. The name also had a nice ring to it - certainly made me peel off to visit.

My VW 1600, not one I had when young. It's a very pleasing little casting, and I think I've said before that it has the most perfectly sprung suspension of any Superfast I've tried. When the front or rear end are lifted up as far as the overhang permits then dropped it boings a few times and then stops in a very satisfying way.

Only just noticed the cracked pillar, "Might as well scrap it M8" as small Eddy might say. It has gently pushed back to a point where it's not easily noticeable. At least all of the spotlights are intact.

A lovely little thing that I was happy to buy at a decent price unboxed, as I suspect it may be some time that I get one MIB at a sensible price, if ever (same comment goes for a few of these realistic early Superfast cars).

I just tried your boing trick.  You're right!

Sorry to say, this is the only one I can bring to the Volkswagen 1600TL party.  Chipped about, and has had two spot lights pinched - but it has uncracked pillars!  Oh my.

Very nice, I think all my "keeper" ones have faults like missing spotlights. The paint looks really good on that one, I always thought the cracked pillars were from rough play but maybe it's a design flaw. It seems to affect the Superfast cars more than the original red ones.

Strangely neither of my big wheel ones have cracker pillars, despite both being playworn.

I guess it's a bit like the 1/36 Corgi Mercedes 240D.

Sorry, I meant the hand painted red rough Mk1 rally

That is, if I am squinting correctly

My fault for being cocky

Your squint is indeed correct (and once again I'm impressed with your identification skillz). We'll have a closer look a little later but it's pretty rough..
