Shite in Miniature II

This was an ex-Vulgalor custom, I wanted to use the paint I'd bought as a bit of a trial run prior to attempting the resto of a Redline.

I didn't go too mad smoothing and polishing the body, as they were never amazing when they were new.

Alive '55 is looking pretty good all the same

I never got why Lesney did the Opel Diplomat but not the Cresta PC.  When I was a child they looked similar enough, after a squint.

The only way I know of is to get the hand-made Lansdowne (Brooklin) one, which were £95 new.  Traders have them perpetually at £125, but you do find some £60ish ones such as this one

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LANSDOWNE-MODELS-1-43-SCALE-LDM-38x-1971-Vauxhall-PC-Cresta-Silver-Starmist/353146107945

Seems like an outlay, but perhaps the £65 will always return £65.  Unlike that eurofizz I drank in recent evenings together with that shoddy Harvester meal we had at the weekend

It's going to display nicer than the dark green Viscount they did

And it's probably much better sense than the Lucky Toys Cresta/Viscount

Approx 1:38 scale and last sale of one of these was bid beyond £50 anyhow as it came in a caravan set

Superior Rescuer time....

The glazing that holds the bulb was ruined and was making the bulb sit at a wonky angle, so I set about creating a bodge.

Cut a 12mm hole in some plastic (still coming in handy @flat4alfa )

Tried gluing it in but I only succeeded in sticking my fingers together, so I got my engineering head on, checked the clearance above the glazing could take a screw head and drilled 1mm holes. The screws are tiny, but have done the job. Reassembled, you'd never know.

I mentioned yesterday that I had some Mini Dinkies and after a brief rummage in the box I found the Ford Corsair and Corvette. They have had childhood repaints but are otherwise in good nick.

I have two Schabaks, the white Sapphire Cosworth and the rather nicer Scorpio in burgundy, I never knew there was an XR2 until today. I've had them since I was about nine but frustratingly can't remember where they came from. Nobody in the family had a Ford so it probably wasn't from Candor in town.

I too have the burgundy Granada (check out the taligate, not a Scorpio so a UK centric casting!) the box is a bit batterd and those paint chips came with it!  I seem to have lost a tailgate finisher in the 34 years I've had it, which makes me feel really old ?

As with most things it had a tale - me or my dad won it in a raffle at the 1986 Ford’s Dunton open day. All staff and families were welcome, the rest if us local to Dunton just chanced our arm - if you had a ford you had a good chance of bluffing your way in ? luckily my dad had a graphite grey Granada so we made the cut. A few weeks later from this 11 year olds best ever day out a package arrived - they had tried to use the internal mail but couldnt find my dad on the payroll, so in the end they rang the house and a rather sheepish dad accepted the prize and confessed he ligged his way in  - to which the prize delivery  driver approved!

You  can buy these un-scened taxed on ebay for not much money MIB and they are a well detailed model if you fancy a payday treat.

That's a lovely example , mine is a rather austere all- black.

I did also have a saloon version which I got from a member on here but I swapped it for a Bburago Renault 14 some years ago.

I've also got that XR2i which is in the same red as the one my friend's dad bought new in January 1990. It was a revelation compared to the brown MK3 Escort L he had before it. The wheels of the model really annoy me though, far too big. Penny pinching by Schabak no doubt so that a generic tyre would fit. Still a nice piece to have.

Is it...Tat Friday?

Unfortunately not today, dudes... spot of trouble at t'mill.

Really wish the market  would start opening at its normal time again - I could be there and back home again before 8, if that were the case. I'm really not sure what benefits a 10am opening brings; the traders don't seem best pleased about it either.
