anyone has a spare or a damaged car with a driver's door?

Mike Flowers has them for 95p - might be a better bet than being stuck with spares cars, looking at you, all BEGGING to be rebuilt.  Playing on your mind, making you twitch, giving sleepless nights, etc  (or maybe that's just me!)

Example:

I got this from Eddy earlier-on this year

image.thumb.png.a74dd8da402a7cab5b2722c1f661eee1.png

Got around taking apart, dipping, tidying body flaws, painting into primer (back when we had a summer) and made ready to determine what was needed

image.png.92cfe7dd5c54db88c08a925646bc0f2c.png

But, instead of doing what I was supposed to do (getting the individual parts),  I fired-up the search engine and ended up getting another job lot arrive a week or so ago, because it had these in

image.png.4144219cdb4553e91e06ea5f9e12ac65.png

So in the end I've given myself THREE jobs to do instead:

1) transfer the good bumper section over to the orange one, meaning repeating the dipping/prepping/priming;

2) transfer the glazing over to the yellow one and dwell on what to do about the paint and surviving decals;

3) wonder what to do with the incomplete remains arghhhhh

Anyhow.  I'm compiling a Flowers order now anyway, if you want to jump on it as well

A jolly nice package rocked up yesterday, courtesy of @dickvandiesel...

Does anyone know if Porsches ever raced with Polo Mint sponsorship? Just curious.

20200709_005430.thumb.jpg.60ba3705770bc836038a07581b69f6bd.jpg

One of these is available, if anyone wishes to add it to their current or future tat box for nowt.

Matchbox Renner isn't bad nick overall - sticker is decent, and despite an a-post crack it looks better than the one I ruined with a paint pen,  when old enough to know better...

20200709_005352.thumb.jpg.3c9072545cc13c878b422cbc5dff751d.jpg

Still a really, really weird choice of car to model.

Somewhat down-at-heel Hot Wheels MX5 may become a custom one day (one day). In the meantime, here it is with my childhood blackwalls version, which is still in surprisingly good nick.

Oddly, the lettering has been flipped on the base - the logo has swapped from the top to the bottom, even though the lettering's otherwise the same.

I feel more charitably disposed towards Corgi Cameos since learning that they were expressly designed as pocket-money toys to encourage kids to develop an eye for classic vehicles. They were never meant to be all that accurate.

20200709_005407.thumb.jpg.498cd79f70119a8a41f5c76868ebb74a.jpg

That still doesn't excuse those shysters advertising them as bona fide solid gold investments in the Sunday supplements to daft old bats, mind...

But here's the star of the show...

20200709_005129.thumb.jpg.03175ce750688339673f3f00852da87a.jpg

Yup, a very minty C425 Austin FX4 Taxi, in a nicely preserved early '80s box...

20200709_005153.thumb.jpg.05dbe3e8687808063156459ba17159ce.jpg

Shape is pretty much bob-on.

20200709_005308.thumb.jpg.25a491250755a25f68555a480636f677.jpg

Now, I believe I have one of these elsewhere - or at least my brother does, since I bought it for him while on a school trip to London. But it was a 90s casting with black base and black interior, and nowhere as nice as this one.

I remembered the fold-down jump seats once I saw them again here...

20200709_005238.thumb.jpg.2233ed44f7b015f4aa291dadc5da9783.jpg

...but I don't ever remember the sliding partition on the all-black version. Maybe only the Mettoy era models had it?

20200709_005219.thumb.jpg.1c25ed027e6b6a7ee43c1f8e65cce8a5.jpg

As a tiny detail which delights through its faithfulness to the real thing, this just can't be beat. I spent much longer than I'd care to admit just sliding this back and forth.

Great stuff, and all thanks to DVD for great packaging and speedy delivery! A+++++++, wud bye tat from agen.

Have you still got a couple of odd things reserved for me?

If so,I'll add one of those Polo Porsches please.

Glad they've gone to a good home chap. I bought that FX4 brand new when I was about ten. As you can probably tell, it's barely been out of the box!

I'm not sure about replacement metal parts - seen a video of a guy trying to fit some to a VW camper and them being little better than tin foil in terms of strength. Not necessarily from Steve Flowers though.

This one looks OK but more money

On the Corvette, are they the same casting but modified? I have the one with the external exhausts and I'm looking for the other.

The Dinky Eldorado arrived today.  I knew it was a repaint, and bidding was nothing like the ballistic listings seen in recent weeks.  So for the tenner it got to, I'm relieved it is actually pretty good, painted well and having had some detailing added.  Perhaps beggars can be choosers after all.

It met up with the Corgi Rocket Eldorado

20200709_120630735_iOS.thumb.jpg.23be11b8bbd5babd036d7b4c51c38c5f.jpg

And also the Lone Star Impy Eldorado

20200709_120711529_iOS.thumb.jpg.5159df7ce77b6589fae4ac0856d75fef.jpg

It ignored the Hot Wheels and Marx Eldorados as they just do not have the same proper egg-crate grille to match

Then it went out for a spin with them.   FIRE-UP THE GARRARD !

Same bases, same glass; so I would say modified and swappable

The interiors look same apart from being different colours and the custom one not having the golf bag on the parcel shelf.  But - I do have the spare golf bag here

Was very pleased that Mrs Post Lady also delivered this long-awaited Kidco 1/28 Corvette Stingray, won for a bargainous £3.20 !

20200709_213907418_iOS.thumb.jpg.b5f95f222dda68bf2ba6eca4f79667eb.jpg

- Geek alert - retaining the separate rear bumper with the urethane nosecone face lift marks this as modelled on the 1973 MY Stingray.  However, the lady in the photo is none the wiser and is only wondering what she can get up to later.

Will go well with the Kidco Maserati Bora, when I find it, that is.

Any other love for Kidco big stuff?  Most of the small stuff is cheap and clunky with daft gimmicks, but this size is good.  Reading around Kidco and their links with Universal Toys Hong Kong, there is also a shared manufacturing link to Eidai Japan on the bigger stuff and I reckon this is what we really have here, despite it stating Hong Kong on the base.

Just did a search on Eidai.  Found this for €100.00 EUR on eBay.NL

s-l1600.jpg.235a13a7c21e192ba74fbb833de82453.jpg

Hunch confirmed.

This means it can sit next to the Eidai Lancia 'Storatus' (yes it really says that on the base) and live on happily, exchanging lineage stories until dusk

I've thinned out my diecast collection over the last couple of years and am trying to keep buying to a minimum, whilst still keeping hold of my fairly sizeable collection.

A few years ago my brother owned a rare import Mitsubishi Pajero J Top (a real one!) and I always really liked the thing. I randomly spotted this unbranded 15cm long J Top model on ebay a few days back. It's a bit Chinese in quality - door hinges are pretty weak and the axles flap around a bit. I'm guessing there would have been a floppytop cover on the arse end at some point. I've never seen another like it though and it's definitely a keeper.

I reckon I'm going to have to look out for some more Pajeros in that case ?

Does your J Top have a canvas on the back end?
